I am biased,because my first ground up restoration of a 38 started my freshman year and I drove it to my junior prom in the spring of 1976,she was all original,wipers,even the bulb headlights,(only thing that made the bulb headlights better than a candle,is didn’t blow out 😂) I couldn’t put the hood on,because the hood ornament doubled as front hinge,,,,, and seemed like every 38 in NE Kansas had the same problem. I was surprised to see your 38 wasn’t broken!😮 soo,,, no hood,vacuum wipers,dim lights,stained and finished oak bed,,, and it rained before I could get my date safely back home 😢 My opinion is keep the 38 for restoration! It was 3/4 ton 38 my used as a fuel truck on the farm during the 60ies that gave me the love for 38’s😊

I’m in Massachusetts so my feeling about the ‘38 is: if you managed to get it on the trailer in one piece, keep it one piece.

You should have put a floor jack under the front axle of the truck and just winched it right on while steering it with the jack. I would leave it complete rather than cut it up.

The 1930’s era produce some beautiful vehicles.
@touhouer7647

Yes indeed and along with that, it had some nice beautiful music such as the ones made by Count Basie, Artie Shaw, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington and probably some others at the time that are perfect to listen in a cozy autumn/winter night with a cup of coffee, It's is relaxing just to enjoy music from that era in a scenario like that. The 1930s was indeed a beautiful era like very very beautiful, the cars had interesting designs and many others at the time were cool and interesting.

Amazing that all trucks have intact windshields. Restoring the newer 2 trucks will be a hard job and requires a lot of time, and money as well. They are the kind of vehicle where the slogan "make one out of two or three" might make sense.

That thirty eight could set on a better newer frame with a good engine and other running gear. I would fix the 64 and 65 both with panels and stuff built right on the same set ups.. or even they could set on newer running gear

When it comes to the 38 it all depends on the condition of the frame whether it should be parted out, or kept in one piece.

If it were my truck and had a decent shop where you could completely tear it down and it would be a perfect truck to completely rebuild that is if you have the time. I love all the old trucks and cars. I really enjoy all your videos God bless Larry Smith from Oklahoma.

That '38 Chevy truck appears to have 3 of the fairly rare high clearance wheels, sometimes called Divco wheels by hot rodders even though they never came on Divco trucks. They'll be the 6 lug kind with the split ring but the centers can be swapped into different hoops. They used to be pretty valuable, although I'm not sure what the market for them is like now.

The fate should be, as Silas says, whatever makes the Money. Ty for taking us along
@danontherun5685

Strictly business yes but probably 3/4 of the artifacts on the road cost a lot more to save than they're worth. Most of us do them because we like to and I'd figure someone will do the same given the chance on that truck.
@66skate
@66skate 6 ай бұрын
That's one thing about Silas. Money is more important then the fact these vehicles are getting harder to come by. When they get that old and still decent, it makes more sense to me to to restore, even if the cost is more then value.
@danontherun5685

Most of us middle class working guys pretty much work ourselves to death raising our families, pay taxes and keep a roof over their heads. Even my penny pinching wife doesn't begrudge the money I spend on my artifacts because she knows I'm happy in my shop and trundling about in them. Even a rented mule gets an apple once in awhile.@@66skate

It's a labor of love to restore a car in most cases (and as a parts guy I can say that most are worth more dead than alive). But what would you do with yourself if you weren't a car guy? The money you'd spend otherwise would go to drink, the casino, or what else? And the "friends" you'd have at those places wouldn't be as genuine as the friends you make in this hobby

Bang on Tim. As a poor hard scrabble farm kid I started saving dead vehicles in 1968. I've done motorcycles, high speed boats and even airplanes, all good and fun but I stayed with the old cars and am happiest in my shop working on the next super cruiser. My wife has a really nice 31 Hudson 8 coupe and likes the old car world too. Keeps us sane in this insane world. I'd have grabbed the glider too just for ceiling art, probably from a pre WW2 Popular Mechanics. @@mr.goodpliers6988

Part them all out, that is where the money is. You are not a warehouse for hopes and dreams or a museum. There are running examples of all these that are far less than trying to get anywhere that close for twice the price.
