Avatars of War does amazing Orcs and Goblins and has the sculptor who did a lot of the 6th ed stuff, so they're as close to official as you can get.

I'll be sure to do a review of some of their stuff too in that case!

I'd agree in many ways. After painting individual bounty hunters for Necromunda, I've recently gone back to batch painting terminators and genestealers for Spqce Hulk, and you're right, it's hard going! I'm managing about 3 terminators before I start to lose the will to live and have to paint something else in the middle.

Highland Miniatures are superb for Old World and gradually building a couple of armies using them and to me they look much better than what is in the new Official GW boxed sets

What armies have you gone for?

Gallia, Orc and Goblin allies and the Empire proxies. They are all superb, I don't have a printer but some selling them on eBay at reasonable prices and far cheaper than GW @@SpymasterGaming

The Orc range is really great. Nice thick details, easy to print and easy to paint. A very old-school vibe.

Definitely, I think that while they do borrow from the warhammer fantasy orcs they are stylised enough to be their own thing too 😀

Highland miniatures certainly have some nice stuff I recently backed an ongoing Avatars of War Kickstarter campaign for orcs which are really old school looking and very much in the vein of classic GW. I think all the stretch goals have been reached as well which is a bonus. You might want to check them out if you love orcs. I did the previous kickstarter ones for Minotaurs and they are excellent

Happy to buy 3D prints as long as they are good quality. I already have a few 3D print characters for my Vampire Counts 6th ed army. But care is needed, as some sellers out there are using very fragile resin, and not cleaning the figures up before sale.
@SpymasterGaming10 ай бұрын
Yes, this is something I perhaps should have touched on, but neglected to do so as I am printing them myself. I would recommend asking the seller if they are using an ABS type resin..it adds a bit of flex and still carries the level of detail and is nowhere near as brittle as other resins!

I really like highlands miniatures, I've printed small armies from a couple of their ranges now. Consistently great prints and nice to paint too. My printer is away for the winter so I've not had chance to try the orcs, I have a couple regiments of the GW ones but I really like the highlands ones also, so it's nice to see them printed here. Cheers!

Ill probably be buying from Highland miniatures, also from Lost Kingdom, and Oldhammer. Ill have to get them all from Etsy as i dont have the money nor space for a 3d printer. Specifically for Bretonnia that is, and maybe other races depending on how things go

I hope they work put for you as their bretonnian proxies have some wonderful sculpts!

@Spymaster.Gaming indeed! I've ordered the Lost Kingdoms version of Repanse de Lyonesse already, next I'll probably order either some Lost Kingdoms Grail Knights, or maybe Highlands Knight of the Realm. I'm still gonna get some GW Bretonnians, mostly the new stuff like the damsel on unicorn which is probably the best female model GW have ever produced? If the old world boxes ever come back in stock I'll probably have to buy one for the simple fact that I have no old world suitable minis

maybe I have missed it - do you print those in 28 or 32mm?
@SpymasterGaming10 ай бұрын
At 32mm they still fit fine on 25mm basis and are a bit taller than the official orcs but I think they look good at this size 😀
@christinebeckett706010 ай бұрын
Happy to pay for the old WHFB sculpts IF they are cheaper than the current ones. I think the older sculpts have a certain character and charm, and are WAY easier to paint up and faster to get onto the table. That last bit is important for a gamer.
@SpymasterGaming10 ай бұрын
Very true, but I think from the pre-order prices they aren't going to be cheaper. 3d printing definitely has its downsides time wise, but these Highlands miniatures are just as easy to paint I feel. It's just the print time you have to contend with 😀

I will probably buy a couple of non GW models, but definitely also the odd box from GW because it'S good if they think people want TOW.
@MrGunnar17710 ай бұрын
It would suck if they get a letter from GW.
@lordy666610 ай бұрын
Letter for what? GW has zero copyright on Orcs, they use Tolkiens work and even Tolkien had no protection on the word Orc as it's a celtic word. I'm really surprised they brought back Old World as they have no IP protection at all other than on the units they created.
@ieuandeakin649710 ай бұрын
Honestly, if GW actually bothered to make new sculpts, id probably buy them. I feel its incredibly lazy to release a rather expensive box of miniatures that are older than some of the people buying them, then including one new model to be like "Look, here's new stuff, we really care about our customers so we brought back the setting you all loved" I feel sorry for Tomb King players because while the sculpts may have been cool at the time, they look awful compared to other recent skeletons
@SpymasterGaming10 ай бұрын
Yeah I think if it was a better split of new vs old , say 70%/30% it would be better definitely
@Nobleshield9 ай бұрын
I bought the TK box, and kinda regret it because god these skeletons are terrible. 25+ year old sculpts, very fiddly, really regretting not going with 3d print. When I do another army, I think I'll absolutely use 3d printed for the core, not only will it be way cheaper but the quality will be better than the ancient GW crap.
@SpymasterGaming9 ай бұрын
That's a shame that they haven't hit the mark for you. There are so many good options out there. If you want tomb kings core troops in particular, titan forge has just released some last month that look pretty cool and their ushabtis are awesome too
