I drive a concrete mixer truck so I know how hard Clint works!!

My MEMORIES of how it was as a skinny kid 1960! Hard work, no redemix. On big jobs a large mixer with a petrol motor used.l Materials all Hand loaded (shovelled into measuring boxes then loaded into hopper on mixer) wheel barrows used to take mixed concrete to slab position. Cement bags carried from stack all roughly 40 kg not sissy 20kg bags of today. Italian Concreters were king of the castle complete with cement bag hats. Cement was unloaded off trucks by hand. Men who used a rake to spread concrete instead of a shovel were considered lazy. Men like Clint and team were legends and still are. Women edging slabs I never saw. Milk came by horse drawn carts or in a Sunshine Milk Tin. Concreters are like Shearers hard workers at the top of the workers in the world. I did that in the 80's mate, as a kid with his dad taken out of school to move mud constantly (admittedly I was jealous of the other kids lazy lives, including farm kids who are infact lazy little fckrs without the experience to understand they had it easy).... I laughed when Chrissy said only one man couldnt do it, ok fine, One man and a child could do it without the agitator. I mixed, moved, dumped, floated and edged, while the old boy just screeded. I could litterally do that ALL by myself with a concrete truck. If you are so experienced why havent you called out that float, its terrible, their floating/screeding is absolute crap!

Yes a concreters job is not easy from 9 years old used to wheel barrows of concrete for chicken shed paths no mini trucks back then . My Dad did it for60 plus years Italians thought it strange Aussie laying concrete must have been in the blood Grandfather cam from Italy although he was a Green Grocer . Practice makes Perfect Krissy. By the time you have done 10 km of footpaths, you should be able to do it all in your sleep.; The afternoon detecting was a nice incentive to keep going.

concrete tip...when placing in areas where sloughing is likely...add a bit of baking soda to the mix.... she sets up fast and stays where you put it...if your mix starts to get stiff just add a bit more water and good to go again...this is an old shipyard trick for cementing underwater seams on big old wood boats and working overhead...merry Chrissymas you two...lol
