I an a professional fireplace installer, licensed and insured. You need to look up the install manual for that particular fireplace and see how close combustible material can be placed around your fireplace.

This. Anything goes when it comes to diy on KZbin though, if it looks good it must be ok!

You did an awesome job! I would buy some of the wood paneling that looks like brick, attach it above the fireplace where that other part of wall is. If you like the brick red look then leave as is but you could also whitewash it so that only some of the red brick shows or completely cover it. I think this would bring that wall into this century! I actually have a 3 sided fireplace that sits out from the wall. I have been here almost 8 years and can’t figure out what to do with it. Mine has nothing above it just a flat area and is about 4 ft. High x 4 ft. Long and 2 ft. Wide and separates my living room from a large entry room. It’s challenging for sure!

Good Job looks great! 2 Q,s ... 1 would a mantel below the tv create a smoke/heat barrier to protect the TV? Does the 2 sided fireplace seem more efficient than a single side?

Looks great guys but just a side note wouldn't the open space y'all closed up also help circulate the heat to both areas? Idk just my thought but awesome job!!! Also I would have added a space for wood storage lol keep it dry and close by is the saying I grew up with in a home that had a fire place ☺️

Wow, removing non combustible tiles and replacing with pine seems risky to me. I would want to look up clearances

For a gas fireplace that's enclosed with metal duct ventilation?? So that doesnt really matter. If it did they would not have used 2x4 frame construction for the support and walls that the fireplace and subsequent chimney/exhaust flute are quite literally bolted and attached to. The tile that bordered the side and top of this fireplace for one was layed over composite drywal from the 80s harldy fire retardent not to mention that sat on or was attached to a wooden framed structure. None of the materials outside of the metal fireplace itself that don't directly contact the ventilation are at any real risk of combustion with a gas unit. The tile served no fire prevention purpose at all and was simply just tacky 1980s decorative stuff. Whatever possible situation that could occur causing a fire to ignite outside of a gas fireplace like this with glass doors would have to be some kind of explosion or something combustible igniting while like a piece of furniture clothing ect. That would require flames outside the unit again at that point your house is already on fire either way tile, stone, wood, paper mache, Cedar siding it simply would not matter because the house will be on fire lol

Love the work you did! It looks great! I have a question, I noticed that you had gold on the actual fireplace before and now it’s black. Did you simply just paint it black? And if so what kind of paint did you use for it?

no just rolling stone

why would you put in a lovely new floor and THEN do all the messy work doing the fireplace?? wouldn't it had made more sense to do the floor last to prevent any possible damage to the floor that you would have paid so much money on? anyhow that said, well done with the revamp.

Sorry to tell you this... but your TV is too big for that space. You might want to consider downscaling.
