Outdated En-Suite Bathroom Renovation

Why did you decide to change the door to a pocket door?

@@Anna-vv6rs I'm guessing to give more useable space in the room e.g. now they can have that storage unit. It also gives more space for the sink - an opening door would probably hit it.

What I've noticed about your style is that it's so consistent and you're a living walking proof that you can be very versatile with minimalistic decisions. The colours and patterns are limited but even this smaller number creates almost endless options for design. I love it all very much.

Those marble sinks are to die for. Good call on the half wall height of tiles on the left wall. The finished bathroom looks incredibly spacious, and dare I say it, quite Zen. Enjoy !

Emma, could you please speak to what the issues were with having a tile base in your previous property? We’re thinking of doing a more open, step-in shower with a tile base. The en suite is STUNNING!!!

With tiles there are gaps in which over time water can seep through, especially with human weight shifting around on top of them on a daily basis. In our previous home water had started seeping through without us even knowing it was and it completely rotted the joists and almost made the kitchen ceiling collapse (bathroom was above the kitchen). In this house it wouldn’t have been an issue as our en-suite is on the ground floor along with our bedroom but we just couldn’t be bothered with the issues of tiles and just have so much more trust in a shower tray x

I find your style soothing and relaxing. I agree with your shower tray option. I am facing a costly tile shower floor fix and yes , it is most annoying to clean the grout. The description indicates the remodel of this new house will take time, but you and Simon have been superstars with your project management/ design/ timelines! Kudos! Maybe a biz fir you as a team E&S Design😉

I love it. This is a beautiful bathroom that will not date. You made a good point at the end, about black fixtures and water. If you have hard water, the mineral deposits will show up on the fixtures, whereas if you have soft water, or softened water, the black fixtures will be easy to maintain. Luckily, we have natural soft water, so the black fixtures still look great after four years. If you have hard water, I do not recommend you choose black fixtures.

We had very hard London water in our previous house and we managed to maintain them, so it is possible but you need to keep on top of the cleaning x
