I was out there with you guys in my 18’ whaler. After you guys left, the GW followed me and circled my boat. Im guessing it was attracted by the blood from the ling cods I bled. I snagged the GW and got spooled. My daughter was screaming with joy as it was a chance of a life time to see one ten feet away. I puckered up in my boat. I can not imagine being on a kayak. Be safe!

Great video! Try to remember to NEVER stand up in your kayak (not even for a few seconds) when a shark is around. They are fast as hell and can quickly bump your kayak and toss you out. We had a couple kayaks attacked and destroyed in Northern California Coastline this year. Also, the king cod thrashing in the water draws sharks in too. Smartest move was NOT bleeding out the fish. Congratulations on your catch! 👍😎🎣💦

What an amazing video re: near miss on that ling. One of your best ever. The funniest part is you had a huge net right behind you. We've all been there my friend.. Fishing in Alaska a few years ago -- slow day, I hooked the only halibut that day, got it to the boat (smallish 25#) and my fishing buddy messed around trying to get a perfect gaff shot for almost a minute and it popped the hook at the boat.

Taku were you guys at Bean hollow? It's known to be VERY sharky!! A friend of mine got hit there several years ago. Blasted him from below and blew him off his yak, then grabbed the kayak and started chewing on the bow. Spun him around several times then came back and hit the kayak again all the while he was hanging on for dear life. Then it slashed at his paddle and ripped it off the cord. When he got in the yak it circled then disappeared for good. He had an 18" bite mark in his hull. Another friend saw it happen and he said it looked like a bass blowing up a topwater bait! A couple other friends have had drive bye there. There have been several attacks there. Great fishing, but... I don't fish there. Can't get rid of the jaws tune in my head when I'm out there. Glad you guys weren't attacked. I think when they cruise around you like that they are more curious than in an attack mode. Great underwater footage! Seems like the aggressive ones come and blast you from below, and you never see it coming. My buddy said he literally felt the push of water lift him right before it blasted him, then bang and he was in the water. No time to panic, just react... And on a brighter note, hell of a nice ling you got! Those hitchhikers are always dicey to land. Hell of a day to finish the year on eh?

What a great clip this is, it's got it all. It's creepy how sharks stalk yaks from behind, many kayak fisherman don't even see them, but drone footage reveals it. I've been stalked by a huge hammerhead, scary stuff. I once had a small hammerhead jump from the side of the boat into my yak, I put my feet behind my head in a flash like a yoga master. Loved the way this fish was broken down, great stuff.

everytime you see one of these encounters you can see the fear, respect, humility in the persons eyes and body language.....knowing that thing can end your existence in the most violent way possible in just a few seconds is probably the most humble you will ever see a person be.. fortunately if the shark exposes itself visually its just curious, and has been eyeing you for quite sometime... if it was hunting you would never see a thing....all hell would break loose and you would be in the afterlife before you even realized what happened..... very intelligent predator perfectly designed for what it was intended to do......what an experience!

You're making a mistake pulling those "green" fish into the boat like that. They've still got plenty of strength and energy and when they're removed from the water they've got every reason to use them both. Try holding the fish next to the boat - use the gaff to pin it's head against your hull - and try to shove a knife blade into it's brain. Thanks for bringing us along, the weather couldn't have gotten any better!
