With two good years of rain, the Simpson Desert is looking magical. The Madigan Line is the most northern track across the desert so come with me and the FJ, and explore the landscape. This is part 2 of the trip where we finish on Big Red.

Great stuff Gary. I really enjoyed this. The photography is beautiful. It reminds me of when I first came to Australia and we had 3 weeks up in the Pilbara. You’re a genius!

Hi Gary...thanks for the video. Amazing to watch. I have a 2013 FJ with the factory extended fuel tank and planning to do the Madigan line in May 25. Can you please share how much fuel I may need for the crossing between servo's? Any tips would be very much appreciate. Thanks mate

Thsnks Steve You need a permit to cross CLC lands and it will only allow west to east. A great trip 👍 It would be worth watching how the NT floods effect the Hay River & Eyre Ck.

Beautiful! Love your style. What camera are you using, Gary? I particularly liked the shots through the windscreen and how you were able to get the natural colours through the tint of the screen. Loved it! Convinced me the Madigan is our next crossing

Love your drone work Gary. I imagine you weren't expecting rain in the desert, but I enjoyed the dramatic clouds. Do you plan to add a lapel mic to your setup?

Check out the genuine 1939 b&w filming of C.T. with other scientists + camels. C.T. Madigan was an amazing man of strength, courage and stamina, coupled with his exceptional thirst for knowledge that led to stellar academic performance culminating in a D. Sc. Oxford. Oh, don't forget he was a mere 6' 3", served his country in France, was on Mawson's Antarctic expedition and led the recovery mission 1 year later.

Beautifully edited with great images. Curious to know your fuel consuption. As I have petrol engined 80 Series, that I'm planning to take to the Simpson Desert this year (West-East via the French LIne). My biggest concern is not having enough fuel.
@GaryTischer
@GaryTischer 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks 😊 I plan for 25l/100k which it will use on dunes plus add a 10% margin and always have fuel to spare. I would recommend the WAA line which will be less cut up and a really fun drive. Be aware of high traffic times (Big Red Bash in particular). If you need to take jerry cans, go for the metal ones which are much easier to pour. 👍

Some great shots, the morning contrasts look epic! Curious, I have a yellow FJ cruiser myself. How many litres of fuel did you have with you in total?
@GaryTischer
@GaryTischer 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Andrew 😎 In total leaving Alice was 270lt. Had 300km of range left when I got to Birdsville. My FJ is 2011 model so has an aftermarket 120lt aux fuel tank plus the standard 70lt.

@@GaryTischer thanks. I also have 2011 model with aftermarket tank. So you didnt top up at Mt Dare? I'm doing Simpson this year and I think I will have enough range with standard and long range tank from Mt Dare to Birdsville. Correct me if im wrong! I can get over 1000kms on just those two

Great vids good to see someone doing it solo. What time of the year did you do this trip as I'm looking at doing a crossing in July /August but I will be going East to West. Cheers hope to see a reply.

Thanks Andrew. Glad you liked the visuals. Audio can be the most challenging to get right. Levels & music choice can be very subjective. I’m never totally happy as there are so many different choices. In the end, its about finishing the video & moving to the next adventure.
