It was the 'Thunder Bay Model Rail Association' (TBMRA) that arranged the purchase and restoration of this caboose in the early '80's. They then donated it to the 'City of Thunder Bay' and oversaw the placement and maintenance of it at Marina Park. To show its appreciation the 'City of Thunder Bay' evicted all of the tenants in 2010 - including the 'TBMRA' - from the CN Station. The CN Station was sold/leased/rented to a private company for a 99 year term. This private company now sees fit to see the once glorious and busy CN Station sit vacant. The 'TBMRA', which used to see thousands of visitors and citizens come to their public model railway layout each year in the station, is now no more. All that is left for tourists to see of our city's railway heritage is this caboose; no more public model railway layout for the kids or the parents. Very sad!

Great video of a great caboose. I remember sitting on my Grandparents front porch watching the trains go by. Then waving at the "Caboose Man".

I always have wondered what the inside of a caboose looked like. Thanks for the tour Rob.

Really enjoyed it Rob! Sure miss seeing them at end of trains. They don't look right without them. Shows my age I guess.

They definitely don't look the same for sure...the little black box just doesn't do it for me! LOL! Thanks Terry!

They did an awesome job! It was in the middle of being restored a few years back when someone broke in and destroyed everything! Hopefully that doesn't happen again! Thanks Bill!

Thanks Broknex! They don't use them around here anymore, haven't for a long time. Used to like seeing them at the rear of the train...now it's just a little black box.

Fun! We are lucky to remember when these where on the trains. The little flap on the truck is where they would oil the bearings ( at the axle). A local museum has one that visiters can walk through. Nice to see care went into that one. If you are interested, check out the yt channel: The luminary Shoppe for carriage lamp restorations. Basically similar to old railroad lanterns.

I'd probably enjoy having a cabin off grid built like a caboose. Maybe some solar panels for hot water and lights, maybe a small fridge with a freezer. Definitely a toilet. Otherwise, caboose in the woods.

Thank you for such a great vid!! One of the coolest things Northern Wood had that my grandfather was very proud of... was a Railway Car they had that was a rolling condo!! LMAO The car had a Boardroom, Livingroom and sleep quarter's!! Talk about rolling in style, but once again I was born too late to even see it!! 🙁 Not sure if they even took any family trips in it?!? LOL Thanks for stirring up that memory Rob!! 😉😎

Thanks Geoffrey! There's a couple of old rail cars that were used as liveaboards along the old Graham line. Now being used as camps. I showed them in one of my ATV vids on Rob Farrow ATV channel.

@@OutdoorRob Nah, much smaller and duller. A raised bit in the middle and just a brake lever and a teapot inside. They stopped using them ages ago, only found in museums and toy train sets now.

You should do a tour of the old Grand trunk ??
@OutdoorRob
@OutdoorRob 3 жыл бұрын
We rode the Grand Trunk on ATV's a couple of years ago, video is on my Rob Farrow ATV Channel. The supposed owners of the line have cracked down on users of the line now and are charging for it's use, so I don't bother with the line anymore!
