We are long retired and it is still going well here. I grew up on a farm in Wisconsin and went too college in Michigan. Then we moved to Arizona and became “corporate gypsies”. We were in AZ 15 years, then Albuquerque NM, Charlottesville VA and back to Albuquerque, Minneapolis and back to Phoenix. After all that, my heart is still on a Midwest farm even though we are still in the heat of AZ. My attraction to machinery keeps me subscribed to your channel as well as Welker Farms, Mellinial Farmer, tractor time with Tim, and others. Thank you for allowing to stay in touch with your way of life grounded in a single geography.

Praying for Billy Ray. He has a strong spirit, no doubt. Maybe he should travel to the Morgan's place and just rehab there. All that peace and quiet would be good for him. Oh, wait! Naw, Mike would have him porting that new chain saw. :-)

Pembrokeshire coast here in Wales. It struck me when you commented on the acorn crop this year, as I had been noticing the same thing here across the pond! Highest crop in over 10 years. Some plants do this across the World at the same time, maybe every 10-15 years after lowering the population of animals feeding on their seeds with low crops for several seasons in order to get more seeds into the ground to reproduce with a bumper crop. Nature is amazing. Keep the videos coming, and stay warm 👍🏼

All hospitality venues are closed and not allowed to mix with other households. Just trying to continue with life as best as possible till things improve. Love your family life and the many projects that you get up too, always a positive when I see you have posted a video. Many thanks Stewart.

Mike, just a heads up for something to think about now: your pool will need to be pumped out at times (like during winter when it rains and overfills it), as well as have its filter backflushed. NOW is a good time to think about where your pool equipment will be located and layout if and where you will put a buried line for the pool water to be pumped out. Potentially you can plumb it into one of the lines you're installing right now, or add another line for it in the same ditch. Also consider if you're going to have pool deck drains and where they will empty/drain.

Not to mention sinking in a supply line to the filter pad for cleaning, topping up the pull, maybe even an auto filler on it.

When I read today’s title, my first thought was “Oh no; he hit the building!” I was nervous watching you put the dirt inside the trench when you dug it, wondering how you’d backfill. I should never have doubted. You da Man! Here in NW Ohio, things are going pretty well. The construction material supply chain interruptions have pretty much gone away. Lumber market is dropping, but panels are still pretty firm.

Really appreciate your videos...I have learned much from your expertise handling all the equipment you use. I haven't noticed the handles on your 5 gallon pails, but I saw a KZbin video years ago on how to repair the plastic handle...replace it with PVC pipe! Awesome fix! I used 1/2" pipe to replace broken ones and 3/4" pipe on my new ones before the handle cracks and breaks. this repair/update leaves with a indestructible handle. You could help thousands of viewers out with this simple fix by grabbing a pair of pliers, removing one side of the metal from the bucket, and sliding the pre-cut PVC into place for the broken original handle or over the existing handle, replace the wire into the bucket and done. Have a day!

Hey Mike! From Granville Ohio (Central Ohio) Met you at Bunyon the day Ty was born. (You and Melissa couldn't have been more friendly) Bought 70 acres and loving it. Nothing like having a bigger property during the pandemic. I shut the TV off and went to work in the woods every day. We've barely noticed any difference from pre pandemic to current times. Starting a little firewood business myself and looking at a few diamond forestry mulcher models. Life is great! Love the building and adore your family. Keep up the great work! Good Morning to you, Jack from the High Desert of Southern Commiefornia here. We live under the Dictatorship of Emperor Nuisance, who just recently put out another order limiting who can be invited to our homes for Thanksgiving. Other than the draconian orders foisted upon all of the citizens of this once great state, my family and I are doing well. I enjoy watching what's going on with you and your family, and I sort of envy the fact that you actually get that stuff, what's it called, oh yeah RAIN. Haven't seen a drop of it in nearly nine months here. At least the summer was blistering hot, we didn't get out of the 90's until late last week. I hope you guys enjoy the Holidays and each other.

Mike, Im curious as to why you didn't put a "Y" just below each down spout for a clean out access? reason I ask is one of the drone videos you could already see leaves in the gutters. South Louisiana. Hurricane Zeta is coming. like South La needs another hurricane this year...

While there are no trees right next to the barn.... a clean out sure could save a lot of work
@millcrafters
@millcrafters 4 жыл бұрын
I was curious about the same thing. However it would be a stumbling stone with the clean out sticking above the ground. Then I realized that cleanout can be done from up on the roof, down through the gutter drain spouts. However once again the strict 90 degree elbows could be a bit problematic for that. Of course leaf guards are a must on this project. For now he could just stuff a rag in each of the downspout collectors on the roof, let it rain and drip over. Then later on when he has the time install the leaf guards. Also it can be snaked from the exhaust down at the bottom of the run as well to loosen things up while supplying ample water up top. I'm not a gutter expert; I just love figuring stuff out, and watching Mike do his thing.
@Snarkapotamus
@Snarkapotamus 4 жыл бұрын
Those 90 degree els are gonna be a major area of concern for plugging up. Leaf guard, no leaf guard - with a metal roof the rain sheets off of it way too fast for them to be effective. So you end up either with no leaves, or water shooting over the gutter during heavy rains. Been there, done that. Which is why I suggested a good french drain around the building several episodes ago. It's inexpensive insurance...

Mike, can you explain something please? Why do you most always back drag a bit of fill down off your fill pile before you scoop up a load when you have a large pile? I can see it with a small pile that you do not wish to push across your yard, but a large pile like in this video, just curious as to why? Thanks!
@johnsadler8637
@johnsadler8637 4 жыл бұрын
I saw that too. I bet it reduces the effort to fill the bucket. I’m gonna try that on a dirt pile I have. No matter how I work it, I can’t fill the bucket. So maybe a back drag will loosen up the structure some and make it easier.

not only does it keep you from pushing the pile around, it helps break up and clumps that may be in the pile. Not so much of a problem with gravel, but wokrs very well with dirt.
@jameshalliday412
@jameshalliday412 4 жыл бұрын
It's one of my favorite things I learned from watching Mike! As a weekend warrior with a new "farm" (only 100 acres) and a new compact tractor, I was surprised how much of a difference it made on the hydraulics. A pile of stone/dirt that's been out for a bit (especially in rain) settles and becomes a more solid mass. When you drive into the pile (without the back drag) it feels like you're trying to lift the whole pile! When you drag down just what you need, you break the "crust", make the load lighter and effectively use the rest of the pile as a backstop to push the newly loosened material into the bucket. Gets me a full bucket 90% of the time and the pile doesn't keep moving around on me!

Canberra, Australia - going great thanks. Just kicking off a Wednesday, getting my kids to school before I head to the farm with my dog for the day. Sitting drinking coffee, watching Morgans and have the local Stihl catalog sitting next to me - birthday this week! Rainiest spring we have had in many years, the long drought around here might finally be coming to an end. Planning how to build some paths through the bush on my property with my kids. Got my tractor back from the servicing shop. Had a bbq up at the farm with my in-laws and our 100 year old Nan a couple of weeks back. That was a total highlight to see her enjoy that day. Thinking of making a little video to be able to show the Morgans how much inspiration they provide. #SmileLikeTheMorgans

Mike, I'm 63 and a Native of Las Vegas and moved to Northern Nevada 14 years ago to be near my aging parents. Gardnerville is 15 miles away from the Casinos of Lake Tahoe and about 14 miles from Carson City. This Valley is a beautiful farming community. Winter has hit with a low last night of 11 degrees. I started a hobby 7 years ago Scroll Sawing wood Crosses and selling them on eBay about 400 Crosses per year. Less than $10 each. Not a big money maker but it keeps me busy doing something I love. Yesterday Melissa said she has a sister who lives in Vegas. I have been binge watching your videos and feel connected. At my Church they welcomed me to bring my Standard Poodle Service Dog and he fell in love with the music directors daughter who was born with Down Syndrome. Hey Mike, I live up in eastern Ontario Canada. I really enjoy watching your videos, I recently bought a subcompact tractor with a backhoe and watching you put your equipment to work I find very enjoyable and educational. It's starting to cool down here, rifle hunting season for deer opens up next monday so I'm thrilled for that. We had our first bit of snow fall yesterday as well. Not enough to stick around, but a reminder that winter is coming soon! Cheers!

Hey Mike, Steve here from Springfield, IL. I'm an auto mechanic at a local transmission shop. We are staying fairly busy even through everything going on. The weather has been 40's and rainy for a week now. The family and I are looking forward to moving to TN in 3 years after my sons all finish high school. We love the your videos. I built a 24'x36'x12' garage last spring with a car lift. Looking forward to what you do on the interior of your building so I might steal some ideas. Keep up the good work!

Hi Mike & Mel, I must thank you for your patience in getting your jobs done. On the previous video(s) you mentioned about how you were wondering if to use the BX or a skidloader for the power company job. You said about just working away at it & it eventually comes together. I am carpenter by trade & recently I had a couple of projects myself, a mini shed extension ( a neighbour called it a 'shedlet') I alway feel compelled to get the job done, but with your example of patience I have completed the 'shedlet' & a Greenhouse for my wife. I have now started on house maintenance & this is going well, replastering, change lights & decorating THANKS MIKE & MELISSA Your an inspiration

Good morning from northern Norway. Winter is about to come, but right now we have high temperatures for being above the artic circle, so it feels like autumn. One month from now, the sun will be gone for a while. I'm preparing my compact tractor for winter and snow-shuffeling. Thank's for great video's of your life and projects.
