Hi Mike and Melissa, great to see and hear the ongoing works to the land especially the new stone wall. We did a something similar in our garden. Having to excavate a lot of earth from around the back of the house, we had approximately 150 cubic yards of earth, stone etc. Due to the costs of removing same from site it was dumped down the length of our garden. Anyway the dumped earth was maybe 75/80 feet long, 10/15 feet across the base and maybe 5/6 feet high. I was continually strimming and cutting whatever grew on the mound so I, like you, covered the mound with sheeting and using any large stones we found from the garden but mainly what I scavenged from the local council/ state dumping site manage to cover the sides of the mound with stone and infilled with small gravel like pea shingle. It was well worth the effort , a labour of love and necessity, no more mowing , weeding etc. Again due to costs we, my wife and me, did all the works by hand. Your stone bank will be worth the costs and effort. Well done to you both.

Great landscaping project. Add a few creeping phlox in there and you’ll have a beautiful spring flower mat that turns green during the summer…. No more run off erosion problems . Nice to see your not partial to just 2A limestone. If you get in a pinch I guess you can take that thumb and do a little crushing on those boulders and turn them to 2A…. Keep up the great work

As a teenager, I helped my grandfather build a rock retaining wall - BY HAND - you made it look so much easier! We used rounder more colorful rocks, hand placed with moss in-between the rocks to hold them in place. Hard work but in the end, it was beautiful! Rock on!

Now that looks good, Mike. For the top edge of the goetextile fabric, consider burying that top edge down on the dirt about 6 inches or so at the rock edge so you don't get erosion underneath the fabris over time. Just kind of turn it under. Small Kabota tractor bucket should do the trick. This rock wall nails it!

There were more larger chunks in that scrap pile than I thought there would be! And to think that when I (helped) build a house using granite rock we hand-carried and set all the rock pieces in place, using mortar to bed each rock in place. We had to handpick each rock to fit a spot or break them to make them fit. That took us months but looked good when done. Limestone will break down very slowly, but granite is there forever.

During the depression my grandfather, Martin Erickson was a stone mason building stone walls by hand that still stand today. He carved his initials on the wall located at the public park in Little Falls, Minnesota. Perhaps you could do the same on one of the big base rocks. Something for your future generations to find.

Hey Mike, the rock looks great! Wow, I don't know what kind of rock was going there but the R6 limestone is definitely a winner! 470 million year old rock will surely hold the earth in place there as long as Morgans are there and then some! So now that you've saved 4, 5k it is time for improving the excavator w some new attachments! I'm waiting to see Ty's expression when he sees all that rock! Yes, I enjoyed the taco dip preparing and Eva's friends. Always good stuff on KZbin, brought to us by the Morgan clan! Like the shallow ditch you made for the foundation of the rock rention wall, y'all have made a solid foundation in the #1 spot on my favorites list! Good and solid, no chance of slipping down! Gosh, this was good, and so much more to look forward to!👍🚜❤

Instead of a flail mower or forestry mulcher, how about another tractor LOL...See if Kubota will bring you out a B-Series to go with your BX HAHA!! Surprised with your property that you have a BX, figured you'd have them bring you out a B-series at a minimum given you have much larger spaces...then again maybe the BX is better since you do mow with it. Rock wall looks good, but it'll get full of weeds, critters, leaves, pretty much everything LOL. I find it interesting how well you run that excavator and BX. I'm still very new to my BX, and being my first tractor, its quite the learning curve. Ok, how far down is the bucket, nope not on the ground, oops too deep, better put that pile of grass back that I just dug up LOL. Yep I've torn up more than I've fixed so far HAHA!! I'm getting somewhat better with the box blade though, and using the loader bucket for back dragging...but for loader work going into piles of dirt, rock, etc. still trying to get that process down. Seems maybe I should have got the bucket level indicator rod...the little black and white bucket level sticker on the corner of the loader bucket really doesn't do anything to help me. Took the loader off the tractor this morning to do some work in a spot that was a bit wet, figured the less weight on the tractor the better off I'd be....did that and graded the driveway...putting the loader back on this time seemed like more of a pain than the previous time I had removed it. Not sure exactly what the trouble was because I took the loader off in the same spot on my carport that I did the last time. This time it seemed like the right side of the loader didn't want to drop back into the J-Bracket...finally got the thing back on but man what a pain...couldn't imagine what would happen if I was dumb enough to try and take it off in the driveway or out in the yard somewhere, I'd probably never get it back on.
