Today we load a Beautiful Cherry Log on the Woodmizer Sawmill and saw some incredible cherry lumber from it. I used the Kubota MX 5400 to lift, flip, and turn the log

My father-in-law saved a cherry log from the family sawmill for decades. After he retired he learned woodworking and eventually but a grandfather clock cabinet which I can see from where I sit. It is true craftsmanship. The cherry didn't hurt the look one bit!

Melissa speaking of tender mercies, you are right. When times get tough, many tender mercies flow to those who especially need the love, compassion, hugs, gifts of joy and certainly confirmation of deep friendship. I'm sure many thousands have visually experienced those tender mercies from the Morgans. Thank you so much, Morgans. Love y'all. God bless. Merry Christmas. Plz keep sharing those tender mercies. It warms hearts when times are difficult and cold. ☝️🙏🇺🇸💪👉...

Speaking of sawmill, Out of the Woods, Nathan is number one when it comes to milling lumber, he is on the money, and, I love to watch him use the hydraulics on his mill, amazing. Thanks for sharing and have a great day. 🇺🇸

Your blessed with a wonderful wife, Two beautiful daughters and two great sons. And of course your Grandson Ty and your Grandbaby to be. I got to tell you Grandbabies ARE the the best, spoil them, feed them chocolate, and send them home. Such fun! Makes it easy to get even with the kids!!!!! LOL! Love the babies now, they grow up WAY TOO soon! Mine are, 17, 15, 14, and 10. Miss the days that sitting on my lap enjoying tickles was the reason to come to Papaws! Now they are all too old for that! God bless you and yours, Have a wonderful Christmas!

Hey Mike, ... You often mention that you would like to learn a bit about your viewers. I own a 25 year old business in Massachusetts, we create exhibits, events and brand experiences for our corporate clients throughout the US and all over the world. Our business has been put in a COMA with the COVID restrictions, so this past nine months have taken a toll on our industry. I’m an average “maker” of things, but I’ve always gravitated to the soul of wood. We live in a 246 year old post and beam home, and I got my hands on a Norwood Sawmill a little over a year ago, with plans to mill and fabricate all of the components for a post and beam outbuilding behind our cabin in Maine. This week, I’ll begin fabricating the 36 braces that will be needed for the 24’ x 30’ structure. So much fun getting to see progress on your projects, along with the huge bonus that comes from your willingness to share your life with others. The 4th of July broadcast gave me renewed faith that there are so many who value this country for the amazing place it is for people from all over the world. Thank you for your willingness to share your passions. All the best to you and your entire family.

That cherry is beautiful. My grandfather was building a barn when I was in college studying to be a shop teacher. He was cutting tree’s on his farm and having them sawed. He saved some curly maple for me. He placed it up in the rafters of his corn crib. When I went to use some of it 10 yrs later that stuff was beautiful but man was it hard. I made my mother a microwave stand out of it and she still uses it to this day.... 35 yrs later...

That's not lumber, that's heaven on earth. I really love that you shaved off some live edge on that beauty. The unique shade of 'white" sap wood really brings out the beauty of that cedar center. Mike sooner or later you are going to get into kiln drying. Might as well make it sooner. :-) The sawyer I have been buying my mill wood from, and comes out to cut any logs I may get, had a kiln in his barn. It was real simple. A 2x4 frame with cross pieces, and he covered the outside with 1" thick rigid foam insulation. Then he placed a small heater in there and a dehumidifier. He said he would kick the heater on to get it all started, but after it warmed up, he would shut off the heater, and just the heat from the dehumidifier was all it took. Of course the real guys get a used insulated shipping container, put a set of rails into leading to the outside, with a long cart, so it makes it easy to forklift a whole load of stickered fresh cut right in there. It comes off the mill, gets stickered in a pile, one lift with the MX and it is on the rail making it into the mill. You taught me that red oak takes a lot longer to dry than other types of wood. I have 300 board feet of some really nice and clean red oak stickered on a trailer right now. It's already about 6 to 8 months old, so I may forego the mini kiln setup mentioned above, I have so many other projects going right now including getting my "Mill Crafter" You Tube channel in full swing. You're an inspiration and an example for all of us to follow.

With a nice log like that you would do well to stack the boards up in sequence, that is in the order and orientation that the boards existed in the log. That way a fine woodworker, like Melissa's father, can find the adjoining boards from the log and arrange them for book matching, slip matching, end matching, color matching, etc.

That is some machine you got there. What a beautiful grain in that cherry. We don't have much cherry up here in Ontario, Canada.
