Mike you could build a plywood cover for the High Boy so Levi can haul firestarter in the rain. I did that on a 3 yard dump for a chip box and then just picked it off with forks when I didn’t need it or was in the way.

I enjoyed the video. But then again, I enjoy all of your videos. We've been snow stormin' here in Minnesota for a couple of days now. I plowed about four inches yesterday and woke up to another six inches this morning. I've got a lot of snow to move! Woodyard, sawmill, log piles, all make for some complicated snow removal. My 3046 with a snow pusher sure makes all that a little easier. Years ago, I used to do it all with a snow blower! Quarter mile driveway and all. I'm sure you know what a wayward chunk of firewood can do to a snow blower! I thought about making one you could pull apart with Velcro. Now, with the pusher, I just pick it all up in the spring when the snowbanks melt. Power was out for about four hours today. No morning coffee! You don't know what you've got till it's gone! I managed to survive. We have enough snow now so I can start my tree felling. Got a few dead oaks out back that I'm hoping to get some saw logs out of. Lots of big branches for firewood! Sad to see them go, but as long as they're dead I might as well cut them down before they fall down. Not sure what killed them, but a small group of ten died. All the rest look perfectly healthy. Maybe it was all the tractor traffic. In any event, I can use the extra yard space. Well, I'd better stop rambling. Just wanted to comment how nice it is to see your family involved in your videos, especially Hunter. The interactions mean as much to me as the machinery and woodcutting. It's nice to see loving families working together. God bless!

Mike, just started watching your your channel in the past week and really enjoy it. When you started chunking up that red oak to split for firewood I thought you were crazy not cutting it into boards, then you explained the economics of your decision. I live in the Black Hills of South Dakota and all I get to mill is Ponderosa Pine, oh what I would give for a little hard wood. Keep up the good work.

That blue Splitforce splitter is a beast for doing the splitting for bundled firewood. I also like the way that it is so self contained, with one motor and the ability to drive it around the worksite. I think that this was a great video, for several reasons, so keep them coming, but I guess you have to have the basic work and activities available and that won't always be the case.

That new splitter looks like it is the ticket for the bundle wood. I built one like your wolf ridge, and have an older one I built probably 40 years ago my son and I split for just ourselves for our outdoor wood boilers. We also built a splitter for the skid loader that works for whittling the big rounds down to size. We split our stuff a little bigger for use in our outdoor boiler. The shed is looking awesome inside with that pine. Nice job

Old Bluford could take a box on a flatbed. It would take some “West Virginia engineering” but it would be one of a kind😎. It wouldn’t have to be permanent on the flatbed so long as the box can be strapped down. Another idea would be to make stake sides and put a canvas across the top like an old Deuce and a half army truck.

stacking this firewood out of the trailer, you could sort it in two containers, with one for normal bundles and one for your ultra premium bundles. From what I have seen, you get 4 barkless pieces from the smaller logs up to 9-12 from the bigger logs. This splitter sure excels at the bundled wood. Much nicer splits than the wolf ridge. The wolf ridge still seems faster for the bulk firewood.
@Bo88y22
@Bo88y22 Жыл бұрын
If you cut logs into ultra premium firewood it would leave you with ultra economy leftovers. Customers would soon shy away from inferior firewood. I think Mike explained that he wasn’t doing any ultra premium anymore.

Mike as a lean engineer have this suggestion - Skip the IBC tote and load from the trailer to the bundler. Anything that eliminates handling adds value. Of the 7 wastes this one seems to add the most value. Fire Starter/ Merchandise - I put a cap on the truck last summer. Might be an idea for the grocery getter to hall fire starter to the post office. Just Ideas Happy holidays !!

Great video Mike. It was nice to see Levi again. Hope they're doing well. With the bed on the back of the highboy, you could put a tent type cover similar to what they used to have for Army personnel carriers on Deuce and a halfs. That way you can remove the cover when you didn't need it.

When you do what you love for a living, you'll never work a day in your life. That's probably why we entrepreneurs work 80 hours a week to keep from working 40 lol! I must admit, as a second love wood worker, I cringe just a bit to know that every one of those rounds winds up with at least two 16 by whatever the diameter of the log is (9 to 20 dollars a linear foot on the internet depending on what kind of hardwood. But of course, then there's finding the marketing for it), pieces of quarter sewn hardwood that will be burned instead of making something beautiful out of it. But I love your channel! What a transformation in the wood yard this year.
