I do trim work for a living. I have this model and use it every single day. The best feature is Bluetooth to your phone. You can go in take an entire cut list of measurements head out to your saw and everything is there for you and it’s exact. No wondering if the cut needs to be fat or thin.

Nice shop bldg. Laser tool is amazing, very much worth the $. Thanks for update. Great to have projects when the weather is - well , winter time. Cant wait till spring and summer weather and all the equipment gets used. Sawmill, splitter, dirt work, forest work, it all is fun to watch. Some folks can live that experience through your videos, even though they would never have that chance in their life otherwise. Great property in Virginia also. Love it. Great content.

Just a suggestion for the future cabin in W. Va. I don't know if you plan to have a wood burner with a electric fan (least expensive without a electric fan), but I would suggest a induction heat powered fan for your stove. It wood (pun intended) save on power coming from your generator and the fan will distribute the heat very well for a small cabin. And lastly, it would be a great back up in case of a power outage for your wood burner at the shop/rec building. Cost on Amazon $20-$60 dollars.

Been using a similar Bosch laser tool since 2008 and they work well. We had rented an 80,000 square foot building and were tracking roof deflection/snow load. I had several marked locations on the floor and would project the beam up to a marked point on the truss joist. We tracked deflection until the extreme snow load melted.

As a high end finish carpenter for 40 years I've had a lot of measuring tools/tapes ... but these lasers have been a boom to both framing and finish work ... I remember buying my first Stanley Laser Plumb Bob ... sure did make my job easier and faster when working alone .... love seeing the building coming together ... non builders just have no idea how much work and planning that goes into a properly built structure ... especially when you are doing it yourself ... 30 years ago I got hired to do a door/finish job with the builders carpenter, met him at the job site and he pulled out a big sledge hammer with his 6 foot level ... I asked him what the sledge hammer was for ... he smiled and said "I know the idiots who framed this place" .... Big 3 story McMansion ... we spent the first 1/2 day cutting sills and banging walls and door/window RO's into place ... there's an old saying in building that a good framers is worth 3 finish carpenters if he's really good
@houstonshores9744
@houstonshores9744 Жыл бұрын
I started building houses when i was 17, went to a vo-tech to learn the 2 year schooling the first year you had to use all hand tools no nail guns. I remember some framers that would eyeball the walls for plumb and when the sheetrocker came in they had to cut 3" off a side for the sheet to fit.

I learned the building trade from my New England (VT) relatives who had been building for generations ... their pride was obvious ... one guy up on scaffold/ladder measuring, calling down to the guy cutting wood/trim ... he'd call down to the guy in a calm voice ... "It want's to be 95 and an 1/8" ... respect, as if nature and the space know things

Good morning! My sister and husband gave me one for Christmas 10-15 years ago, with much less programmability and less accuracy. It’s the same design as yours - measure from the base to the laser dot. It reads feet and inches, so is good for estimates but not cutting boards to length. He used it to estimate scale for renovation projects. I use it when there’s no one around to help hold or there’d be multiple tape placements.
@hellogoodbye3129
@hellogoodbye3129 Жыл бұрын
I use this green one, just remember that you have to add the gross length to the displayed length. This model gets a little squirrelly around 50ft with high humidity or dust. It measures your drainage pitch, roof pitch, and for me, wall pitch. As a restoration Mason you can't actually touch the walls if they are really bad. And getting a tape measure out around power lines is always a bad idea. Thanks Mike!
@RaymondBarrett
@RaymondBarrett Жыл бұрын
I have a different brand and love it! I bought it while trying to design a new house floorplan. It's great to walk around your existing house and quickly just take room measurements as a reference. "I like the size of this bathroom - how big it is?" 2 seconds later, you have your width, length, and even height if you want. And as you said, especially large rooms. I just shot it across the combined great room/kitchen and bam, there's the distance. No trying to keep moving my tape measure a couple of times, adding them together, getting around furniture etc. Not to mention I can do it all myself, as you said. No help needed to hold the other end. They're awesome! I think I paid around $60 on Amazon.

7:40 you said something that made me think of this song. "Let It Snow" was written during a heatwave. Lyricist Sammy Cahn and composer Jule Styne had to use their imaginations when writing "Let It Snow." The two were struggling to endure one of the hottest days on record in Southern California in July 1945. May be one more thing we did not know.

I had one of the older laser tapes several years ago. Worked great, I used it figuring square feet in homes. Mine also had a level in it. A word of caution, don't drop it. I dropped mine a couple of times and it got out of alignment. The sending unit and receiving unit must be in alignment in order to give you a accurate measurement. After six months of constant use mine quit altogether. They were more expensive back then so I didn't replace it. I am assuming that they are making them tougher now. Great concept and really hand though. If I had need any longer now I would purchase again. Great time saver and even more accurate than a tape for longer distances.

Mike, we’ve had these for years in our window business. We make custom built to opening sizes for new and old buildings. Our measuring crews use a laser that will send the dimensions by Bluetooth to a tablet onto a spreadsheet. We don’t have to remember the measurements and don’t have to write them down. The spreadsheet gets downloaded on our computers back at the office and gets put on each window in the elevation and floor plans. Great stuff!

It looks like those lasers have come a long way. One thing to keep in mind with a laser or stud finder or anything with a battery is make sure the battery is good when using. I found this out with a multi meter with a low battery. The numbers I was getting were way off and I thought because it turned on it appeared to be working correctly. I changed the battery and all made good sense again. Good luck.
