I absolutely love the Visco Lock system. It is so much easier to manage than a mechanical lock. Get the model that has the 4Lok system. True diff lock.

I purchased a 2023 Outlander 700 Max XT last fall because my Arctic Cat 2 up was getting tired and my wife has MS and needs the extra comfort. I love most of the aspects of the machine but it has a serious fault for my purposes that I have not seen mentioned in any of the evaluations. On the positive, it seems to have lots of power; I have dragged a large bull moose out of a cut block in northern B.C. with no problem and have dragged large fir and larch trees in the southern Rockies for firewood as well. It has done quite well in deeper spring snow with 2 people on board, although I would prefer a diff lock which it doesn’t have. Most of the features are great. The majority of our travel is at speeds less than 10 kph as we use the machine for work and wildlife viewing around our wilderness property in the Canadian Rockies where the terrain is timbered and has pronounced elevation changes. The problem is with aggressive engine braking at speeds less than approx.. 17 kms and going downhill. It occurs in 2 and 4 wheel drive; there is no problem on flat ground or on inclines. When descending on a steep grade and give the machine no throttle at all, everything is OK; however, if you give a little throttle to speed up slightly and then try to reduce your speed, the engine brake aggressively kicks in and out with the result being that the machine is jerking back and forth making the ride uncomfortable and scattering wildlife from the sound. The dealer took my machine for a test ride with another like machine and got the same results on both machines. I have contacted BRP twice about this problem and have been told that there is no solution to the problem which I have trouble accepting as they have very talented engineers. Am I the only one who is encountering this problem?
@ATVGUYS
@ATVGUYS 8 ай бұрын
You can tune this out on the clutch side but BRP will not do that. I actually like the engine braking and i've learned how to work the throttle to keep it to a minimum. You dont want engine braking at all at low speed? take out the one way bearing in the primary drive. Gone goodbye for zero dollars.
@WaynePelter
@WaynePelter 8 ай бұрын
@@ATVGUYS Thanks for your reply and the suggestions. The unit is still on warranty so I won't make any modifications until that ends. How difficult is it to take out the one way bearing in the primary drive? I have got a few different riders to deal with the aggressive braking problem and none of us has come up with a throttle technique yet but it looks like you have; so I will continue to explore . If I can't figure this out one way or the other, I guess I will have to consider selling it to someone who rides at higher speeds than I do. As it sits now, we get a very jerky ride on the slow speed descent and manage to scatter the wildlife which I want to observe.

Great looking quad. I never understood the visco lock system either. Wouldn't it be cheaper to just have a regular 4wd system with a front diff lock
@ATVGUYS
@ATVGUYS Жыл бұрын
actually, no, the visco slop diffs dont cost much more to build and the only thing required is the 4x4 activation circuit. the electric lockers need more switching and different more expensive solenoids + indicator for in dash etc.. its actually cheaper for visco lok

Nice review, I've been considering this model over the Pro Max Hunting Edition HD7 but was concerned the 700 XT does have complete under body skid plate protection like I believe the Hunting edition has. Any thoughts on this. Assuming for the $2k savings you can buy a lot of armour. Other than that and rims I don't see a lot of differences on the two newer models . Cheers

Heard the Alterra 600 is pretty quick, Bought the Can Am because my dealer dropped Cat. My Cat was perfect for 3,500 miles, hope the Can Am does as well.

Seems the 500/700 has a slight delay before clutch engagement and a “clunk” when it actually engages to move the wheels. Was this the case on your ride? My can am dealer assured me it’s “normal” for this engine.

@PowerSportsQuebec
@PowerSportsQuebec Жыл бұрын
@@crfamily6946 Talking un pure realiability and Track record that goes back to 2006. the 850 is the third generation of this V-Twin engine platform and has been proven to be very stout and resilient with some very brutal use. Maintenance is the key! In my time in the shop i've seen blown 800s, streched timing chains (Gen 1) and all kinds of leaks from minor to stupid gushing. most of that can be tracked down to severe abuse or lack of proper maintenance. These engine run hot as a bbq and require frequent oil and filter changes with a decent quality full synth oil, not mineral, not semi synth, the full synth stuff. the difference on teardown is enormous and mileage before a teardown for refresh varies a lot according to that. I've torn down 800s / 1000s and just by taking the valve covers off on a 3-4 year old machine, i'll tell ya right from that if its been cared for or not. As for the 700 that in fact a 650 cc rotax. the internals (most of the moving parts) are derived from a rotax that was made for motorcycle use by manufacturers such as BMW. The 450 is the same and has proven to be one of the most high performing ATV engine in the business in that class. So the "700" is a great choice but, if you like to have fun drifting and full on acceleration rushes, the 850 is the way to go.

Visco lok is a turd system. To me its as dumb as polaris' tiny hitch revceiver lol. I remember all the old paid advertising by canam where "pro's" said visco lok was engaging quicker tyan the polaris awd. 😅😅😅 Polaris engages with any slip, visco lok take like 3/4 of a turn. Dont gete wrong, polaris awd does have a doen side. It wont actuvate until below 18kmh. So no turning it on in a pinch.

Any limited slip sucks compared to a full locker but many times, a limited slip will be "good-enough" without having to stop and lock it up. Which is why I bought the 700 PRO with both, so I have the best of both worlds.

The Visio loc works great for racing and trail riding, if you get used to it you can loc it up with throttle control.
@EC_ATV_Outdoors
@EC_ATV_Outdoors Ай бұрын
@firstoutlander it's "works" but as a system, a classic 4x4 and diff lock is better. Polaris AWD is fantastic, but you can't enable it on the fly at any real speed. If you turn it in, AWD won't kick in until you slow down to about 18-20 kmph. But if you have it on it only activates with a few mm of slip, so the argument is a personal preference. Visco lok is simply the least of the three types. If that weren't true, then they wouldn't have come out with visco 4lok
