BJR is so sadistic. Jamie sacrifices all for her safety. He couldn’t have realized how far BJR would pursue him mentally and emotionally. They were so good in these episodes

(Refering what he did to Jamie) Are you sure you want Mary in my bed? The tone of his voice, his look , his expression ....remarkable performance. Wow ...

I’d seen Tobias Menzies in Rome and Game of Thrones where he played such soft spoken and unconfident characters. I never expected to see him as such a terrifying, sadistic villain. The man has got range.

I hate Jonathan Randall with a passion but, no matter what, in every movie, every tv show, my heart always finds a way to empathize with the villain. It tries to understand why they do this and tries to see the good in their heart, which Jonathan Randall has when we see him nearly cry when his brother dies.

When I first started watching I thought she was going to beat the hell out of Jack and embarrassed him with superior WW2 hand to hand combat but I guess since she was a nurse she wasn't trained. I never been in the military so I'm not sure if they train nurses in hand to hand combat. Would have loved to seen how a modern soilder hand to hand combat training would do against a soldier from the 1700's. Kind of think a modern soilder would dominate a soilder from that era. Now they might have the advantage with the swords and shield since modern people don't use those type of weapons much.

In the British army ww2 women were not allowed to fight so she would not have been trained and not 100% sure but don't think hand to hand combat in ww2 was taught with much importance well not as much as gun handling anyway in infact soldiers back in 1700s were probs better than ww2 soldiers in hand to hand since close quarters fighting was quite common if it was Modern soldiers however I would bet on them beating 1700s soldiers in hand to hand most of the time. Anyway even if Claire knew hand to hand fighting you have to remember she is a female and will be at a big physical disadvantage especially against a guy as big as black jack randall.

A sadist for sure. Brutal to his enemies and unkind to his men. I've known a few officers like him. Sergants are hard on their men but they will mother them after. Officers aren't allowed such attachments and will quickly fall if they allow themselves to have them. An officer who gains his mens respect is preferable. An officer who is feared works just as well. Both is the best combination. Randall is just feared. So good enough for government work, but he won't ever be a general I bet, or even a colonel. He's a competent killer and leader, though and that's usually enough. A monster? Not quite. Unfortunately very human. If he were a monster he wouldn't be as scary.
