Outlast 2 Insane Mode Paths (Post-Patch without cutscenes)

Here are the routes you can take in Outlast 2 Insane Mode that might assist with attaining Messiah/Saint/Asahel/Prophet (please see time stamps/notes below for some updates). This was done on Xbox One and most of these paths are in my other Insane Run video but I wanted to make updates to the routes after the 5/5/2017 patch and finding some faster/safer methods.

Luckily only 3 parts changed: first being once you hide under the bed and sneak into the next room the guy doesnt spawn going down the stairs, second being when you bandage your hands up after being crucified the guy from the log direction doesnt run at you and third being laird and nick dont even exist when you drop down on the one section before climbing slanted log. And four if you count the removal of the one wall at the two switches you have to turn off

32:30 There is a MUCH easier and safer way to do this. Once the heretic spawns on the stairs crawl out and go stand by the door (to the left of it) when he busts the door down he charges about 5 feet into the room at which point you can very easily just run through the doorway and go upstairs. Easy and safe, works every time I've tested it a ton.

That method doesn’t even work anymore on the current patch/version of outlast 2. I know this because that’s how I failed one of my insane attempts. I did exactly what he did in the video and once I ran up the steps the heretic was still there and killed me. This was my fault though because I should’ve checked the date of the video and know that this was an older version of the game so I don’t blame him at all.

For golgotha 1 after grabbing the bandage, you can run back to crucifixion area. there is a guy who walks over to the little camp sometimes, if he does running to the crucifixion area gives you a chance to run a circle. If he isn't there heal and carry on sneaking.

This video is perfect: very clear instruction and insightful commentary, with all the unimportant (i.e. safe) moments of the game removed. Thanks to you, after a few practice runs on Nightmare, I was able to get Messiah and Saint on my first attempt! I completed it just a few hours ago and felt the need to convey my gratitude. Although the unskippable cutscenes are super annoying, I really enjoyed both Outlast games, and in my opinion, the Messiah/Energizer achievements were the perfect way to motivate players to master the games; once you have everything memorized, the games are no longer scary, and I believe that overcoming of fear is what the devs intended when including these achievements. Looking forward to Outlast 3. :)

@24:20 you can walk backward into this trigger and just run forward again as soon as the music starts, so you shouldn't need the camera there i guess :) *edit*: just finished watching the video, awesome job with the encounters and commentary. this will definitely help a lot!

This is great advice, it can set you up for where you need to go much quicker and you only need to rely on the sound cues. I personally like to watch the events start but that’s just me :)))

tried my first, real insane attempt yesterday btw and i made it quite far to my surprise. but for some reason loutermilch got me in the "Murder before suicide" chapter. for some reason he is way too close to me on my way back up (after the bathroom) and blake gets super slow opening the doors up there. he grabbed me while going through the double doors before the final hallway :(

It seems to get harder every time I try, I'm getting killed on parts that I never got killed in before, for example.. when I'm inside the house waiting on Nick an Liard to bust through the door, I jump out the window an run for the ledge, but lately, the second I get onto the ledge Laird hits me with an arrow an kills me, also, my last 2 attempts I got killed on the same part, when Nick an Laird bury me alive, when I break out of the box an run through the woods I keep getting killed by a sibilis, an I'm running the exact same way I was shown in the video

8:03 You _never_ need to use the night vision here because Blake will always move along the intended path so long as you are holding the left stick forward.

My 2 most frustrating deaths so far: 1: Game doesn't register that i push sprint in the water and heretics kill me right outside the mines. 2: Glitching outside of the world as the level loads and dying in the first school section.

Norwegianboy EE Marta killed me in the last chase with Lynn :))))))))) and now I can't even get halfway of the game cause all my strats are failing during Marta chases. She remembers me.

I keep dying at the heretic temple jump. As soon as the cursor is lined up I go to jump and my character just bumps into the ledge instead of grabbing it.

When this patch came out, it fucked me up so badly... I haven’t tried an insane/no battery run since because I got to the mines twice, but that heretic that spawns on the path killed me both times. It sucks because I know I would’ve finished it, if I’d gotten past there. I’m watching this because I wanna try again now, after a respite, but I’m genuinely scared as I consistently got killed by heretics when I was running up to the elevator in the last few attempts I did.

Running to the elevator is a little stressful because I think you're meant to run out of stamina and they're supposed to get really close to you >.> I know if you walk backwards to trigger that guy in the mines that walks in front of you you can just start running based on the sound cue and that can save you a little time, which can be helpful. I think the path in the video is pretty reliable but I'd be sure to practice in nightmare so that you're really confident first :D

The cart with Marta when I went through the crawl space and she went round the corner I got out of the crawl space and she disappeared and never broke the fence she just spawned on the cart I was so mad 😫

Why I've always been able to do this 12:00 in insane mode without any trouble (with my own strat and postpatch) but now she always kills me even trying your strat here? She seems to be teleporting all time around me cause when music stops she teleports to my back very fast.

Hmm, I've never had her do anything out of the ordinary when I use this method... Are you certain you're following it exactly? Or maybe adding some variation? I know that it doesn't take much to trigger her to teleport so I always do the exact same thing. I think that if you look behind you while running or pushing the cart it may trigger her to do different things. Is she teleporting to your back on the final cart push or when you wait on the corner?

TheKreeperr in my first strat I would run and lose her and then go back to the cart. This always worked for me. But now she always appears when I'm about to push the cart (for second time), even following your strat. And I have no time to look behind because she always screams before I can reach the cart. That teleport thing is so unfair.

OK so if you're on a different version of the game I suppose that could add some variation but I'm on Xbox One and this works every time for me. You may also be experiencing an anomaly that I just haven't seen yet in 40+ runs :( Either way, I wanted to break down the steps here because each one is important and I've just done this 10 times in the game to make sure it works the same as in the video: 1 - Stat pushing the cart, Marta walks out to the street, turn right around and go through the crawl space. Stand still while she passes. 2 - Peek out to the street to make sure she has turned the corner (you can watch her do this) then go to push the cart again. 3 - Marta will bash through the fence to the right of the cart and when she does run through the bandage room to the corner where you peek back in on the bandage room until she actually walks into it (this can take 2-3 minutes but normally happens faster). 4 - When she enters the room, turn to your left following the railing around to another house on your right. Through this last alley and on to the street, go straight to the cart and push it to the fence where you jump over it. I hope this helps but I'd recommend practicing in nightmare either way. If you're in nightmare, when you finally push the cart to the fence, jump on to it but wait until Marta kills you so you can practice it again until you're sure you've got it!

TheKreeperr I practiced on nightmare and it just worked when I could barely see her entering the bandage room (I had to start running like 3 seconds earlier than you did here). But I'm not sure about insane mode... thanks for your help and I'll let you know if it works.

What're some other strategies for 32:28? I tried this strategy (as I did pre-patch, where it worked) but now when I go to run out of the area, the second enemy is still by the door. I just failed an Insane run and then played that bit on Nightmare in order to test it (see if I just got unlucky) and three tries later, it still doesn't work.

I think that the guy in the door will go away with enough time, so maybe try waiting longer in the first room before you run for it OR if you aren't worried about hiding, there is a barrel right next to the door you could wait in for a while once you're sure enough time has passed and the coast is clear. I've also failed insane runs at this part and both times I THINK it was because I didn't wait long enough

The enemy that goes through the crawl space took less than 10 seconds to reach where I was, that was definitely changed. I'm trying to get the no-hiding Trophy as well, I don't understand why they changed this.

If you wait inside a barrel too long, they will found you and kill you. My strategy is: Wait behind that door and when the heretic broke it, just run upstairs.

The part at 20:00 is not the same for me, literally the millisecond I walk foward to spawn nick he immediately knows where I am, no matter how fast I get to the tent he still knows. Wtf is going on

It’s insane mode so the AI is optimised fully and they’re a lot smarter. For that first encounter just run straight past him after arriving there and stick to the left side whilst running between the trees. The first arrow will never kill you and you will take damage going past, but it’s not an insta-death. 100% confirmed as I use this method in my insane runs and have made it to the mines thus far without fail.

I'm on ps4 and I have had her chase me 3 out of 4 times since patch however I will add my most recent playthrough she actually started to chase me and then vanished.... not sure what causes the inconsistency
