The narration can only be appreciated if one removes all the frightening expressions of the presenter. The movie is down to earth, realistic, natural and by all means gives a formidable message to every student lacking self confidence. I find true hero in Olmos' character. Its quite inexplicable as to why the presenter keeps deriving laughter in all wrong places.

Did John really just laugh his ass off at this man having a heart attack LMAO with the sad ass music playing!

Why laugh at someone who is having a heart attack? The weird part of this video is when they try to put the sad music with the scene where the teacher is almost dying and this guy is just annoyingly laughing over the scene. What is wrong with this dude?

Probably watched this movie a dozen times over the years in school. Seemed like it was every teacher's pick when they were sick or at the end of the year when they got lazier and just let us watch movies all day on the last few days of school. A total classic. And JuanPa was very charming in this video, so that was a plus of course

Either this guy is having a crazy nervous laugh being on camera or he just severely disrespected the people and the event that this movie was based on.

Brammer, you're hilarious. I loved Stand and Deliver as well. I saw it for the first time in high school, I think. A teacher had us watch it for reasons that probably amounted to, "I need a break from you crazy kids" but it was a good movie, as you already know. The fact that you laughed at the scene of Olmos having a heart attack is cold-blooded, but damn, I give you credit for not hiding your feelings about it. 😆 I feel like Hollywood did remake this movie in a way, probably a dozen times over. It fits into the whole earnest teacher educates defiant students in the inner city trope, but since I love that trope, I will not apologize for liking this movie. (Note: not all movies in this genre are good, but Stand and Deliver ... delivers. 😉)

The truth is the system doesn't want people to self-develop. Standardized tests/IQ tests label your ability as constant, and when you get into the real world corporations just want fire and forget type learning. Companies just need people who can learn the simple paradigms of how they work easily. And pro-IQ/pro-rationalists are fine with that, because experiential intuition that takes years to develop with education (or skill), is a threat to their grandiose sense of intellect grounded in what amounts to merely glorified short term memory tests (IQ/SAT). Unless you have very specific higher level skills in virtually non-dynamic fields, such as those associated with being a doctor, the system isn't for you. I've known people who can program in C++ to a practical level, but they don't have a job, because programming jobs generally require a broader set of easier languages - that keep changing. Usually, these types of changes, for example, the change from C++ to an easier Java, are not necessary for some significantly greater good - the change does very little in reality, but put those with an older skill set out of work. Mind you this wasn't always the case. In fact, up until the 70's you could ride on a skill your entire life. In the respect, the modern system is BACKWARDS. Yeah , mid-level/high level skills aren't going to get you an advantage in this corrupt system that has way too much emphasis on dynamics and little to no emphasis on experiential depth.
