The amazing thing about electric SUVs is that their compact motors and inverters, along with the battery neatly tucked under the floor, allow for a level of space efficiency that combustion engines could never achieve. How about regen paddles ? So much talk about driving dinamics and work put into it, but you forget the ABCs ? Not everyone is driving one-pedal. Heck, some even get motion sickness from it. Not to mention the damage it does when hitting a pothole with the wheels still braking. The really passionate drivers, they love to be able to switch quickly from a high level regen to a lower one, especially on a bumpy road. From my experience, any decent driving EV should have the paddles. What Kia/Hyundai are doing now, with simulating gears, is next gen fun, I don't expect that from every car producer. But at least give me the ability to modulate the regen power, when needed.
@flaviandd12 күн бұрын
P.S. I know you might not have details yet, but we also need to know more about the battery. Is it modular ? Again, thinking about the koreans here. They have top stuff in this regard. Best modularity of all: you can repair, reuse, replace just one of the 32 modules in an EV6 for 300USD or less. No foam shit, no glued pack, no welded blades, no cooling mixed between the cells, and still charging super fast. About charging. Will they be Zeekr 7x like 10-80 in about 10 min ? If not, why not ? And if we are talking about 7x, that one might be a real competitor, even is is not as big: have you seen that 7x offroading ? It's next level for such a premium city SUV. You have not even mentioned the ground clearance levels for the Gravity. Sure, it's more minivan or MPV than SUV, but that air suspension should count for more than just handling and comfort.
@chrisbworth10 күн бұрын
@@flaviandddon’t know about the battery modularity, but I know it’s 123kwh. As for charging, Lucid says 200 miles in 15 minutes. Not sure how that compares to the zeekr. As for ride height, it’s adjustable from between around 4 to 9 inches.

@@chrisbworth Those 123kwh are OK-ish for such a large car, but details about the modularity and repairability really matter, if we are talking passionate and knowledgeable people here. Also, give me manual control for battery temp, same as climate controls, I want to heat or cool the battery at XY°C, with max speed if in hurry or lower speed for efficiency, show me temp curve vs charge speed limits etc. The x miles in z min is crap, just tell me the 10-80% time that every one uses, don't try and trick me, I know what a charge curve is. Height at 9 inches is decent for light offroading, despite the 300 cm long wheelbase for this large station wagon.

when you only build about 25 cars a day it’s easy to work towards perfecting each car while they sit in GA/Final for a total of 2 weeks 😂 that’s why they lose over 200k per car… And will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Lucid is winning at nothing.

Impressed that this is coming with a NACS Uhh... at $95-125K.. I wouldn't count on it selling very well. I guess we need to agree on what's 'selling well'. I would say if they can get up to or past 20k a year.. that's pretty good. I'd guess they'll sell less than 10k a year.. maybe less than 5k. Soooo.. I don't expect it will sell 'well'. Mmm.. it does look a bit minivan ish.. Not exactly sporty looking once you get past the nose.. kind of a bus. Like a HUD.. like the center screen way better than the air. Don't really love the binnacle screen going so far and so high. If you want a bigger center screen for real estate space for different shit.. make it bigger! Don't like a long screen up so high in the view line. A binnacle screen should be behind the wheel and that's it.. for me.

Those rear doors would work so much better if they just slid parallel to the body... like a... minivan?!?? :) (I mean, c'mon, that's the only thing that is stopping this from being the world's most practical and spacious EV on the market.)

LR4 rear seats did this to give you a totally flat load floor. I wonder if Lucid paid for the patent or if they managed to get around it in addition to Dodge's stow-n-go. You need to test whether a full golf bag will fit under that rear tray so you can keep them in the car out of sight.

The Air sedans are selling better than Model S, which is a fairly good car, so Gravity is very likely to swamp Model X sales once production ramps up.

@ OK that’s not true at all as I have access to sales numbers and the S is out selling the air sedans four to one
@Miata82213 күн бұрын
@@RONderluck That would put S sales near 40k for the year, near record level. I've heard otherwise, but with Tesla not publishing their sales by model it will be hard to say conclusively (convincingly).

Glad to finally get the review of the Gravity!!!! Please try and get your hands on a Cadillac Escalade IQ. I am very interested in an electric SUV for a large family 5+. We also need a tow vehicle for a camper. I think the Cadillac Escalade IQ could be the Holy Grail of EVs for a large family that can actually tow a decent distance.
@normanli708512 күн бұрын
Towing and ingress are the only advantages of the Escalade IQ. Everything else, the Gravity does better for less money and an exterior that's doesn't take up a lot of space.
@SchieEngineer12 күн бұрын
@@normanli7085 I agree with your assessment. My family is coming from a minivan that has more interior space than any EV on the market. We have a family of 5 plus a large dog. The minivan allows us to remove one of the second row seats for the dog and allows very easy access to the third row. The minivan also has plenty of storage for full size suitcases, and large items we commonly carry behind the third row. The Gravity was my top contender for replacement of the van, but I am not sure it quite has the interior comfort my family is used to. There is a Cadillac Escalade IQL that is even longer coming. That is most likely the size we are looking for. Yes the cost of new is CRAZY, but I am looking to pick one up in a couple years after the 50% deprecation happens on the Cadillac.
@normanli708512 күн бұрын
@SchieEngineer I must say, I did find it surprising that the IQL isn't much bigger than the IQ. In terms of the styling, the IQ looks like a super sized Sorento (or, in this case Gravity) while the IQL is a supersized Palisade to have a more functional third row. Hopefully, the legroom is similar to the Escalade ESV, and the headroom eclipses 39 inches due to the more boxy shape in the back.

I wonder how this "premium/not premium" devision is supposed to work... If Hyundai will also put $100k price tag on Ioniq 9 will it become premium then? Because Ioniq 9 will have just in base tons of features that are paid options in Gravity ...
