Need Feedback: The house and all buildings at the new place are white, what color do you think we should paint the kiln after the siding is done?

I would Definatly paint it. A dark color would assist in the drying out process. I dont know if color difference would protect siding any better.

If the outside temperature has a positive effect on the drying on the inside then I would go with black because now it will be in full sun. It's kind of like a black truck in a parking lot verses a white truck. The black truck will always be hotter. If the color doesn't matter then paint 3 sides what you want to and paint the side the annoying grass cutting neighbor's side is of his lawn mower dismantled ...I know but it was a nice thought...lol

Don't paint it. Let is weather for a couple of years then cover it with a spar varnish. That would allow it to expand and contract more without cracking and peeling with the extreme temperature changes like paint would.

I would think you are getting all the heat into the kiln through the top of the roof. Therefore a matching paint of other buildings would be alright. But to differentiate the kiln from other buildings a brown would give it the weathered been there a while look. Can't wait for my hat to arrive.

Depending on the amount of heat you want in the Kilm. Black.or black green will get you the most heat. The black green is more black than green. Both need to be flat colors for best absorbtion.

I thought it was wet here! WOW! If it were my kiln, I'd use a stain. I use a product on cedar out here called Sunfrog. It's a great wood protector with a natural color. Not sure how it'd look on oak. Merry Christmas, buddy!
