When AOE2 first came out and I was very young I was playing the first William Wallace campaign where you learn how to move your units. When it came time to march your small army up to the English 'tower' and destroy it I got really scared because I thought it was going to wipe out my meagre force, and I spent ages trying to find another way around. Turns out it was just an outpost. Suffice to say, this map would've given ten year old me nightmares.

I made two Nothing maps. One is Trickle Nothing and the other is Legends of Texas Nothing. Trickle Nothing is basically resources trickle in so long as you protect your trade workshop. Legends of Texas Nothing involves the players reliving the final battle between Aurion and Saly in which you can treb each others kings, complete with a wonder and king for each player and two trebs for you to treb kings with.

I'm pretty sure splash damage still works - if you notice though the resources go up at a fixed rate after a while, I think you destroy outposts faster than the resources can come in so it just overflows and gives it to you incrementally. I've only played it once so idk all the mechanics but that's what it seemed like to me.

Indian Camels would be amazing, the +4 vs buildings is amazing. As they do 18 damage towards buildings when fully upgraded. And are relatively cheap. So yeah, I'd go for them, Sure it's only in Castle Age and forward, but since everyone starts with Sappers focusing the outposts with Villagers shouldn't be a problem. Do what MBL did, clear out enough for Farms, and I'd actually try to stay as far away from my opponents, slowly building up resources, to hit imp and go for Imperial Camel Riders and just pump them out and just tear down the outposts at record speed, 500hp-36hp/s means that it takes a single Camel, 13.89 seconds per outpost per camel, so let's say you have 20 camels then that's 86.4 outposts per minute, which equates to 864 wood and food per minute, 259.2 gold and 172.8 stone per minute. That's enough to queue 4 new Imp Camel Riders per minute. You could clear out the map real fast.

This honestly is much more exciting than the regular competitive matches because in regular matches I don't even really understand what the interesting aspects of each match are but on outpost nothing things are understandable. And also it's a great nothing map just by itself because of its simplicity but also its complexity at the same time. I always like the really weird maps to see where the boundaries are and what strange things can happen.

The biggest problem with lag for outposts is their overlapping line of sight. In the cd version, I once filled the map with towers and started deleting some of them once the enemy in the area is defeated, but eventually I had fog of war over my own units and can't see or select them while still costing me population. So that is why the game was lagging when too many outposts exist and are dying.

the outpost did work and they did give resources if destroyed with area of effect of ram, the resources were given every half a second due to trigger settings. So mbl propably had 1k+ pending resource trickles at the end of the game that never came in

I got a few questions: 1. Outposts have 0 defense. So any unit attacking it deals damage equal to their attack value + bonus damage, right? 2. Villagers have a fire rate of 2.0, an attack of 3 and also 3 bonus damage on buildings. Furthermore it was said in the video that the upgrade "sappers" is already given from the start. "Sappers" gives villagers (by that I mean ONLY to villagers) an additional bonus damage of 15 against buildings. So the villagers starting in "Outpost Nothing" deal 21 damage per attack every 2 seconds = 10.5 dps to outposts. Even Indian Imperial Camel Riders also have only a fire rate of 2.0, "only" an attack of 9 and 6 bonus damage against buildings. So they only deal 15 damage every 2 seconds = 7.5 dps against outposts. (I am not sure if those 6 bonus damage against buildings in the wiki are already 6 bonus damage from team bonus or if they get 12 bonus damage against buildings in total.) But even if they get 12 bonus damage against buildings that would be: 21 damage in 2 seconds = 10.5 dps against outposts. Therefore without black smith upgrades that would be only equal to villagers while you need to pay a huge sum for the unlocking those units first. So my questions here are: Would Indian camels really be useful in this game mode for destroying the buildings? Would Incas not be better suited for this map? -> Incas: - villagers benefit from black smith upgrades = deal even more damage to outposts - houses give 10 pop space instead of just 5 = less space needed to get more villagers at the start, so you can build more farms on that space to get more food faster = more villagers faster - all buildings cost 15% less stone (and stone is the resource you get the least on this map)
