Seems useful to include a "tier 1 resources to import" list for those looking at what resources to focus on initially. All these resources are used by the basic fabricator - so having a steady supply of them into your main base means you're ready to craft all the basic components. Keep in mind you can only have 4 bases to start. Import 101 List - Alkanes (CnH2n+2) - Aluminium (Al) - Beryllium (Be) - Cobalt (Co) - Copper (Cu) - Cosmetic (Zoology) - Fiber (Botany) - Helium-3 (He3) - Ionic Liquids (Il) - Iron (Fe) - Nickel (Ni) - Silver (Ag) - Tetra fluorides (XF4)

Sounds cool!! The mountain I built on is 'curved' like a crescent moon, I tucked a landing pad at the base and the mountain comes up around and behind it, I built circle habitats (with windows) into the mountain around it. I can look out over the whole thing including landing pad. It overlooks that gorgeous Nesoi landscape.This is the most rewarding video game Ive ever played. And most fun since The Legend of Zelda. I wish outposts were more useful. I never once needed to farm any items from them in my full playthrough. I always had more credits than I could spend just from selling enemy loot, and it was faster just to buy a resource that I was missing for an upgrade rather than build an outpost to get it. Outposts just feel like they need more of a reason to exist.

Outposts are only useful for exp farming. Credit farming too but selling manufactured goods is an annoying process imo. If huge amounts of resources could be used to cut costs on shipbuilding then it would be so much better. I have different custom ships I want to make but just building one is so expensive.

@@calyxatlasFrankly I was just thinking about that today. Like if they just let you craft ship parts, med packs, and ammo they'd have a lot more purpose. Like create a more complex crafting system that requires machines on an outpost to function. As you said though and as it stands, very easy system to ignore.

All of my outposts are in the Eridani system with three including my main on Eridani II. All of my outposts are capable of extracting no less than three elements. What I don’t like is that I can’t link more than two in-system platforms together and I only have room for three on my main outpost. Thanks to you, I’m going to go rethink that process! I also noticed that my stations were ignoring items I put in indoor storage crates which was unexpected. Thanks for the fabricator tips as well. Wasn't sure how to link all that together. I have had my outpost attacked by raiders on occasion but it's a level 20 system so my crew and turrets take them out pretty easily.

I spent about 10 hours setting up 5 outposts collecting resources and funnelling them all to a central base, only to realise how convoluted and broken the whole system is. I deleted all of them except my "house" and never looked back. If I need any resources I'll visit a shop and get them for about 200 credits. 🤷 And while I'm at it, it's honestly a bit of a disgrace that you can't customize the ship interiors and every time you modify your ship everything you did put in there gets reset anyway. We want to make our ships our homes, not live on some abandoned wasteland of a planet like it's still the 2020's.

I don't think you mentioned that for the storage they have gauges on the side of them indicating how full they are. With colored ranges - if it's full or near full the indicator would be green. You can even use your scan and the mouse wheel to zoom in on them so you can check how full one of your storage tanks is if you've got a number of them built in a tower - no need to jet pack up.

If you link extractor’s to a transfer cargo device and further link transfer device to a mass of storage. You can sit on top of the transfer cargo unit and using a spam E macro loot an absurd amount of materials in the shortest time. Now it’s in fact best to mix materials for this method as the loot stage is faster and it bugs out when a single resource is shown. If you can’t farm two materials you can work around this auto click bug by looking away and back every half a second while E spam macro is working.

I don’t think cargo links are confusing. I think they are convoluted. Each settlement in F4 had a Workshop. Each Workshop had an inventory. You could merge these inventories with supply lines, in any way you could possibly desire. It was actually perfect. Now the world we’re playing in is much larger yet the logistics of crafting are more restrictive. It’s awful. Every inventory is limited like crazy. The distribution of the wide variety of needed resources is insane. NG+ really means there’s no point in doing a ton of end game crafting because you lose everything except your skills like 10 times. The loading screens. Help me see what I am missing here. Why are more people not having this issue ? I loved settlements, Hearthfire before that and I was hoping outposts but I’m struggling here. Edit: I even enjoyed NMS, Ark, Minecraft, 7days, space engineers. All of which have varying complexities of automation and inventory management.

This game is so large that most players haven't engaged with the crafting and outpost systems. I would guess that 90 percent of players rn are playing for story and role-playing. You can ignore outposts and crafting and get through the whole game. There's are definitely high barriers to starting with these systems too. The carry limit is pretty restrictive. Encumbrance is a big pain. There's stuff you need to know, like to put the right starter resources in your ship storage. And you need a ship with decent ship storage too. The best method, I find, is to focus your outposts in one system, one with a lot of resource rich planets. You Alpha Centaur is a good system, so is Narion. You build to extract certain resources and then you start linking them. I would say I spent about 10 hours working on this stuff. I made the necessary mistakes to learn something about it. There's potentially a lot of depth there but the designers haven't exactly made it easy.
@WastedPot

@@StephenYuan I’ve exceeded 10 hours of outpost experimentation. I’ve got rank 4 of all the appropriate perks. I’ve inspected many star systems. I appreciate the advice regarding Alpha Centauri but that demonstrates to me you are also not too deep into the crafting system. I say this because there are many resources you physically cannot acquire from Centauri, Narion or a combination thereof.

Outpost and Ship building are both absolutely shit features that are not necessary for the game to work. Spaceship is just to have an explanation for fast travel and to dump your shit somewhere. Outposts are tedious to build for little to no results, the credits it takes to buy all the resources you might need isnt much and you can totally skip Outposts all together. I recommend setting up a BAT file with skill points invested into the outpost building and researching, because its a massive waste of levels to do so otherwise. You are not wrong with storage neither, a massive storage box can hold only 125 ores? While you can carry a 1000 on your person easily? Who came up with that. You need to build 20 storage boxes on a planet to harvest a substantial number if you are planning to sell. You think you struck a gold vein by finding gold ore and mining it, but gold sells for 1 credit a piece, waste of time. Same as other resources. ITs a joke, they failed. I will come back when modders fix this mess.
@WastedPot
@WastedPot 9 ай бұрын
@@PigeonSlayer It’s cathartic seeing you make the same assessment. I’m on console so unless BGS solve the issue I’m outta luck. I can’t stand how badly implemented console mods were into Skyrim and F4 so that also is unlikely to be my solution. Roll on ES6 I guess…

The problem is cargo links are just fundamentally flawed with how they work, any factory game player will immedietely recognise why it won't work. Unless you are building a single cargo link for a single resource, which isn't feasible if you want to manufacture everything, the whole system will clog up with whatever resource is being produced the most.

never had an outpost attacked until i jacked the difficulty up and started playing on Hard or Very Hard and was playing around way out on the edge of the Starfield in the 3 systems around Archimedes. I made the mistake of jacking an eclipse ship with a 17LY Range, and that little star cluster the closest star is 20LY away I think - so I was stuck. Tried jacking other ships - kept getting low range ones, so I finally gave up and started building outposts so I could build a large landing pad and switch back to my normal ship. HELP - I searched for this but found no answer. Is it possible to build a set of outposts that all transfer to a main outpost - THAT IN TURN - ships it off to sell that resource for me. ALL woithout me having to show up, load it up, transfer it to a vendor, and sell it? I want to be out adventuring while this is steadily making money for me in the background. Is that a thing? Or am I going to have to come back with a ship, gather it up, and then sell it myself? And if the latter, what vendors allow for selling in that kind of quantity? I don't want to have to be making multiple trips and waiting 48 hours everytime in order to sell.

One thing to note is that just because a resource is within your outpost radius, it doesn’t mean that it is usable. It is possible that the mineral deposit is so close to the edge that it’s not possible to build an extractor in the available space, such as if an extreme slope is involved. It’s best to save before founding any outpost if you are trying to squeeze in multiple resources that could be on the edge.

Only two reasons I found to build outposts is to build one for XP farming and another for credit farming by mining some high value ore. Neither one of them really requires to have any skills invested to outpost building, research, scanning or anything. Money farming simply boils down to efficiency as merchants have limited amount of money to buy before you have to wait, my current money loop takes 5 minutes overall, with selling 29.5k credits worth of stuff in neon core, so about 360k credits per hour. Only thing I really need for that is ship with cargo little over 5000. I guess outposts are OP in that way, other I can't think of.

Would be good if there was a mission board for resources. e.g. Neon needs xxx resource. You could then ship it in from your outpost and fulfil the order. Also something like terraforming would be cool, especially if you needed to ship in gazillions of resources from your outposts though what the point of this would be I dont know, perhaps if you could terraform and colonise a planet and collect a passive income from taxes or supply the colonists with drugs for income it would be cool.

@@dickyboi4956 Yeah - and there are times I find that relaxing. I've got a small base I use for stashing contraband, until I'm ready to go sell it. - It's also where I stash Lin & Heller. They're just bored out of their minds by now. What I'm trying to figure out is: 1 - how much money can you make at it while you're off exploring planets? 2 - is your profit only from manufactured goods or harvested items? (I assume so) 3 - Is this why people want huge Cargo haulers? Or is there some other bulk Cargo pickup/delivery system in game that I haven't found.

they're OP because that makes for a better clickbait title. there's no reason to bother other than to make future outpost building easier, and no, the money is insignificant compared to looting random ecliptic bases. just build one literally anywhere, add a bounty board and a ship customization pad and you've got all the functionality you need

Outposts are totally unnecessary. It’s sad because that’s the number one thing I wanted to do when I got this game. Cargo links are totally broken and a total waste of time until they add the ability to auto stop exports once the destination has a certain amount of resources. In other words, let’s say you have an outpost that produces iron, beryllium, and gold. You need far less gold than the other two. However, in the current system, that outpost will just keep exporting gold infinitely until your entire receiving base is filled to capacity and it clogs the entire supply chain. I currently have 8 outposts transporting like 20 resources. I had to go to each source outpost and manually shut off like 14 of the resources. My best advice would be to build your outposts out for fun but definitely don’t put any points into them until you’re basically done with your build. Maybe just place a bed, a mission board, a bounty kiosk, and a bunch of storage containers to hold stuff for a later date if they ever decide to make outposts and crafting beneficial.

There is an incredibly annoying bug which gets me all the time when it comes to the large landing pad - you build it - go away - land your ship again - and you would think it would land on the pad so you can easily use that transfer station right? no - about 9 times out of 10, you look up and your ship is parked half way to BFE. you have to go to your landing pad, pull the ship up on the ship builder (no need to make a change) and then exit ship builder and it will be on the pad. if anyone has found a fix for this - i'd love to know it.

if the cargo links worked like fallout 4 I wouldnt have to use a cargo ship every playthrough Just to have every resource stocked some good solar systems that allow you to have multiple good mines on a single outpost dont have helium-3

I have about 10 outposts scattered acrosss the universe, minimum 6 resources per outpost. Outposts and cargo links in particular are broken as fuck. All you need to do to break an interstellar link is use "pass time" e.g. rest in your bed. Output links stop working for no apparent reason. It's a shame that Bethesda just released an update containing basic features like DLSS that should have been in on release vs. fixing the many bugs in the game.

"Outposts are overrated and useless" There. I fixed your title lmfao Outposts are absolutely pointless. They are meant to produce materials for resources of crafting or for making money. When neither take any effort whatsoever. Resources can be farmed with money simply by sitting and waiting for the vendor to restock, which always has everything you need. And as far as money goes, if you just play the game and do missions, you get so much money you don't need outposts for credits either. It's kind of laughable

Outpost building is a F*CKING NIGHTMARE for this game. Transport links are effing ridiculous. You essentially have to micromanage every damn aspect of the logistics once you have more than two groups of bases, in two different systems, if you want to channel them in to the kind of central hub you are talking about. Crew stations make literally NO sense, either.... you can assign crew.... and then.... you can assign two crew. You are supposed to be able to assign MORE, but I have MAX outpost management AND max outpost engineering, as well as MAX Leadership and Starship Command.... and so far... even with a dozen beds and ample resources... I cannot assign more than two people to any outpost/ At this level, with the skills maxed out that I have maximized... I should be able to assign EIGHT.... so I am told... but literally HOW is a mystery.... because the Outpost UI is a DISGRACE. All they had to do is make it Fallout 4 in Space, with perhaps some higher resource and skills bars.....when it came to Outposts... instead... they made this ABOMINATION. It is literally game ruining. Someone at Bethesda needs be fired.. a whole lot of people, in fact, over this travesty. Paid 100 bucks for this, I want it work, and I want it to work well, be intuitive, and be EASY, since it is WHOLLY OPTIONAL. Instead, its very existence destroys my game.

Listen, I’ve been following all these videos talking about how great outposts and followed along doing exactly as shown and told. I’ll give this, it’s a waste of time and a huge headache. The amount of kg you need to inventory manage between having or not having an outpost, the time it takes, being able to research anything on your ship, needing to take perks when your ship does all. Like everything about it is a net loss. Bethesda puts outpost building in games to waste time, not benefit the player. That’s all it is, a waste of time that costs you perks, rss and time to work up to the functionality of the inside of your ship. Want to decorate? Buy a place and that skips the huge list of outpost downsides. There is no good point to all the investment in this system, and you say that as you describe what you have to do and spend compared to what you get out
