In Altadena, the money makers are already busy. There will likely be "approved developers" with "approved designs" for the rebuilding of homes that had been in the community or in families for generations and gave the area its unique quality. In other words: current regulations may not allow for "like for like" construction to replace the mid-Century or quaint Craftsman/Bungalow homes that were lost--modern look alikes are crazy expensive. The landscaping will likely be mandated as "water-wise drought tolerant" as well. No old-growth trees or green lawns... I digress. In short, the rebuilding of Altadena, and homes along the coastline in Pacific Palisades, may be the next disaster to hit those communities.

The EPA could have found alternate locations. Farsnworth Park, the Rose Bowl, and the Santa Anita Racetrack may be housing displaced residents. I loathe the idea of Irwindale Raceway and surrounding communities being used to "process" (or rather dump semi-permanently) toxic waste that should be able to be processed locally in Altadena/upper north Pasadena.
