What bait is best ? Whatever bait you can afford to keep putting into the swim. Whatever they recognize as the safest easily available food will become the primary food source. This can be as simple as a single can of corn under the same tree daily . Or the same reed bed litters with feed corn soaked in water a few times a day for a few days. Or could be thousands of boilies along a quarter mile stretch of river. When we are talking big carp : to me nothing beets a reed bed full of corn and a large nightcrawler in the mix.

I’ve been catching some big fish recently but damn things keep coming off at the end! So frustrating!

I hear ya. Hooking them is one thing, but landing them is a whole other challenge!

Outside with Tom check out “GOAL fishing” channel, local channel here in az. I think you would njoy

Try some different knots or get a net.

Watch what Tom is doing here. Net is in the water already…. As the fish tires and you begin to get it in to shore, loosen your drag a little. Be patient… Gently guide the fish over your net and lift. Don’t try to “horse” the fish out of the water.

Hi from Ohio. I too have compared corn to other baits and it is tough really to say, but I think you can't go wrong with simple corn. No prep time, low cost and works great. I tell my wife I can amuse myself for most of the day for 49 cents. I recently have switched to fake corn on a hair rig then put just a very small kernel of real corn on the hook. I do pack bread with real corn on the sinker for a type of pack bait. I do use a sling shot to chum the corn out also.

I agree, in my experience corn is just as effective as anything else, and the simplicity and low cost is unbeatable.

How do you keep real sweet corn from falling off the hook or hair?
@OutsidewithTom Жыл бұрын
That's probably little fish picking it off. Only solution is use a different hook bait.

Gorilla tape is good stuff. The first and only Gorilla tape I patched my car roof with has been keeping my car nice and dry for 7 years. Haven't had to replace it. 1 inch square hole in the roof from where wiring had been.

Thanks Bill. I've never tried molasses, but I'm boiling some feed corn today so maybe I'll give that a try soon.

Did i just see you tip away the juice from the corn! All that attraction Tommo! We would never do that in England. PS add a bit more salt you cant over do it. God bless.

Ha, add that to the long list of things I do differently than English fishermen.

Thoughts on fake corn on a hair rig?
@OutsidewithTom4 жыл бұрын
I've never used plastic corn, but have seen a lot of people that do. It will catch fish. If I'm going to use corn, I prefer the real thing. Just my personal preference.
