Great video! I've seen pond koi carp spawn every month during the summer months. It might be the same for some wild carp? Don't know though.

Will you be making any one ounce sinkers for 2025? The reason I ask is where I live there are man made pounds that are stocked with fish and a two ounce sinker is to big,thank you for making this videos I have learned a lot from them.

Question for tom/ what is your favourite bait for carp fishing?
Not really, that's why I changed the rig. See the link in the pinned comment.

I think you’re right about the otter. They tend to be wasteful, lol. In case you might not already know, mussels have an interesting life cycle. Those mussels are called Giant Floaters, and live in lakes and backwaters of rivers. They brood their eggs in special chambers in their gills. After the female lays her eggs in their gills, they become fertilized and develop into larvae. The female continues to brood the larvae until she releases them into the water in kind of a web-like structure. The larvae must come into contact with the right fish species and (in this case with Giant floaters) attach to the fins of the fish host. There the larvae hitch a ride and develop their internal organs using the nutrients in the fish blood. Once development is complete on the fish, the baby mussels break loose and fall to the bottom and begin filtering feeding. So Giant Floaters have a variety of fish they use as hosts. Some mussel species have very specific host fish species they use. But Giant floaters use bluegill, bass, catfish, and several other fish species to complete their life cycle. But carp do not work as hosts for mussel species in the U.S. because they did not evolve together. But I don’t hold that against them, lol. Thanks for all your videos. I’ve learned a lot from you. I’d love to go fishing with you sometime. I’d take you out on my boat if you ever head down this way. I fish the Missouri and Osage rivers mainly in central Missouri. Best Regards, Andy (I’m a freshwater mussel biologist from Missouri and a fellow carp angler).

Super interesting, thanks for sharing that info! Glad you enjou the videos. I may just take you up on that offer sometime, thanks!
@andyroberts40894 күн бұрын
@ what’s really interesting about the mussels is many of the other species don’t freely release the larvae, but fish for their hosts. The females have lures that they extend out from the shell. These lures mimic prey items of their fish hosts. Some resemble small fish complete with an eye spot, dorsal fin, and caudal fin. They can move them to give them action as well. One lure mimics a crayfish. I’d love to go fishing with you sometime and maybe you can make a few videos? I can provide references so that you’re not coming to meet a complete stranger. I’m a good boat captain as I do it for a living. I just don’t know how to exchange contacts without doing it here.

That's my experience with grass carp. Pull them in like a dog on a leash until the realize they are in the net. Then its a mud and water explosion. My net hand!e is only five foot long so I wear a lot of muck on me. That belly snag is a strange one.

Do exactly as shown in the video, except grab the fabric behind the ears and make the fold at the back of the head instead of the face. The double layer will be on top of the head, and single layer will be across the face. Does that compute?

Wish Okuma would incorporate a screw in handle on their baitfeeders. I despise a hex key handle. All the manufacturers are missing the boat with their quiet baitfeed drags. Make it a clicker.

Camera very cool fascinating really. Thank you for the effort. Question...observing the difference in fish handling between species. Are carp fragile?
@OutsidewithTom15 күн бұрын
Their mouths are definitely fragile compared to most other freshwater species. Unlike Bass or Catfish, hanging a carp from the mouth will likely rip and damage the mouth. This why you see people using slings, or weighing the fish in a net like I do. They don't have a mouth that can be used as a handle like other fish, so laying them on the ground is needed, hence the ground mats. I think letting ANY fish flop around on the bare ground or sticking fingers in gills is poor fish care (with a couple exceptions). Great question, glad you enjoyed the video, thanks!
