To make them interesting to watch? If they did "challenges" that were hard(er) it's unlikely anyone would score any points and it'd be a 3 way tie with 0 or 1 point each. If you go back and watch the older Christmas challenges, they have "lost" on purpose so a particular person "won" that year. Each of them have their own strengths and weaknesses. For example, it's unlikely, to the point of improbability that you'd ever see Jane and Andy get into a racing game with Mike. If you go to the Outside Xtra channel Christmas Challenge series this year, Luke beat Ellen for the victory yesterday. Yet, they ran the last challenge today, which Ellen won. Luke would have still won overall, but it would have been up in the air til today.
