God, the progression of the fears as revealed was just perfect. From “wasps all around” (a perfectly reasonable thing to fear) to “cheese is made illegal” (a bit odd, but otherwise understandable) to the frantic, bafflingly specific yet esoteric “psychosexual gnomes”.
