Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor deserves a mention - not for the protagonist, though having a held-together-by-magic slashed throat that starts bleeding again whenever you're ghost-busted is pretty impressive. Rather, it's the "only a flesh-wound" scars of the occasional lucky/determined Orc captains who somehow manage to turn up again after you'd very definitely stabbed them to death on your last encounter with them, each time sporting increasingly impressive and/or disfiguring scars as souvenirs.

+cloudbloom I have around 19 scars on my body, 18 on my right leg (some over a foot in length), and one oddly enough on my lip (I am not related to Desmond as far as I know). Had a rare disease at 10 ( a little over a decade ago) that caused the necrosis of the hip socket on the right side. It's called Perthes disease, and is extremely rare, since the age of ten I've had over 13 major hip and knee operations that lasted in recovery from 6 weeks to 6 months. It's left me with a scary high pain tolerance, and a better appreciation of life. Stay strong my brother in scars! I hope you are doing well now.

They're immune/resistant to many poisons and toxins, they're faster, stronger, have better eyesight and can see in the dark, hence the cat eyes. They live a very long time but it's unclear how old Geralt and Vesemir are. Geralt is presumed to be 50-100 years old, leaning towards 100. And Vesemir is thought to be 3-5 centuries old. Apparently no Witcher has ever died of old age, which could either mean that their life spans are infinite, or that they were all killed before age could take them.

I like to add scars to my RPG characters to add... well character. Like my dude in Fallout 4 has a fading scar on his face that he received in the retaking of Anchorage Alaska, it's fading to symbolize the fact that he accepts who he is, and has moved on with his life before and after the bombs drop, but is still in the healing process. My Skyrim dude however has very noticeable scars to symbolize his thirst for battle and wearing his combat abilities for all to see (He's a Nord), he's is as proud of his scars as he is his skill in combat. And my guy in Dragon Age has no scars, to show he is untouched and unmarked by all the blood and battle, reflecting his un-scarred outlook on the world. I have secondary characters too, but I'd rather not ramble.

+Dom Locke I've got several Skyrim characters, but the main one of them has got a scar just beneath her eye, wich she got at very young age (9 years) before she could control the magic that runs in her family's blood. Cornered by some goblins the magic inside of her erupted, incinerating the goblins and as the one closest to her ran around flailing his arms, his claws struck her in the face, leaving her with a life-long reminder of how close death was and will be for the rest of her journeys...
@hanli4278 жыл бұрын
+Dom Locke My Imperial character has a scar across the cheek and a bad eye. He lived in an orphanage in the Imperial City when it fell during the war. As the orphanage was dedicated to Talos, they did not fare well. The attendants were killed and the children abused. That is how he got the scar and now he hates all Thalmor and will kill them on site (even the guy in Markarth underkeep). Very dark, I know, but a good example of the scar to remember to hate.

The scars for Altair and Desmond can be (somewhat) explained. In the desmond's journey missions (optional), he mentions training and specifically a "bloody lip every once in a while." It's reasonable to assume he'd gotten his scar while training, probably near the end of his time on "the farm" for it to be so clear. Altair is a little less cut and dry, but again, a "reasonable" assumption can be made. Remember Abbas, the guy who wouldn't get out of your way near the start of AC1? Threw shade like it was no one's business? He and Altair grew up friends but, because of reasons, grew apart. When they were relatively young, and training together with metal swords, Abbas attacked Altair. The incident was serious enough to leave Altair another scar (citing Secret Crusade, here) on his side. It's a safe assumption that Altair may have gotten the facial scar from that fight, or, like Desmond, from another event later.

Skeletor P. Funk No disrespect intended but how? Halfway through my very first playthrough, That was the first time I had to drink a potion to survive a fight. I didn't even bother with magic because I remember magic making all challenge evaporate in the first game. Although to be fair, I realized in 2 very early on that swords were useless so I only used a gun and spec'd all of my skill points into it accordingly. Fable 3 was even worse on the "magic OP melee useless" spectrum thanks to spellweaving so I ended up being a gunslinger again to try and get some form of challenge without playing like an idiot outright, but that game was even easier. Lost Chapters was the only game in the entire series that even approaches difficult in my opinion. Though that was more or less due to actually having boss fights that required thought to defeat.

I personally chalk it up to lack of ability and/or patience to make an entirely new model. Seriously, if you move the camera to look at Altair and Ezio's faces(At least, in the 1st 2 games) they look exactly like the face for Desmond.
@MajkaSrajka8 жыл бұрын
River Greystoke II That is because the simulation makes Desmond see his face on all character he gets into (both Altair and later Ezio) as, well, his face, instead of some random weirdo from 1000 years ago.

I'm not talking in-universe. The scar is never talked about in-universe. I was talking about why the scar was there from a real-world perspective.

Have OX done a video about badass videogame tattoos yet? I'd love to see that one. Corvo's hand tattoo in Dishonored. Booker's wrist tattoo in Bioshock: Infinite. Kratos' upper body tattoo in God of War. Jason Brody's tattoo/tatau in Far Cry 3. Edward's upper body tattoo's from Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. Ronan's torso in Murdered: Soul Suspect. And, of course, Jack's ENTIRE BODY in Mass Effect. Ah, the choices.

I have a bunch of scar that are slowly disappearing (mainly from cat scratches), but I also have a permanent dent on my forehead. What from? A kid dropped a brick on my head when I was around 4 or 5.

Yes! I'm totally guilty of reloading my save in Fable 2 if I got knocked out. More specifically I started that strategy after completing my first playthrough and having my character look absolutely awful at the end. When I replayed, I made a more conscious effort of not getting knocked out and reloading a save if I did which actually didn't happen that often. I just didn't want to look like total crap and getting knocked out just a few times will make you look like a monster. Lol

Kratos from the God of War series. There's the scar across his eye that he got from being back-handed as a kid by Ares, the scar across his abdomen from when Zeus impaled him with the Blade of Olympus, and also the burned forearms from when the chains from the Blades of Chaos were practically welded to his flesh.

Handsome Jack's scar from Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! Sorta heralds his decent into madness and evil. That's super important to his character.

I used to have several scars (they've faded a lot), on my face, particularly near the eye, from when I ran face first into a tree branch. Several years later, the tree had to be cut down. It was a moment of glorious vengeance.

What about Dragon age inquisition? the glowing green anchor that can literally close a tear in the sky? or does it not count as a "scar"

I, a fearless hero and not a totally average person, have a battle scar as well. It comes from my long arduous battle with a ruptured appendix. I battled for several hours, well actually the surgeons did when they extracted my appendix, but I battled my way through the deadly bacteria and kept myself alive with only a scar as large as the tip of my pinkie to prove.

I got a scar from my aunt's cat - when it bit me - on my left cheek when I was 6 and didn't know any better, so I got it from getting to close to it, and now the cat loves me. I think it might've claimed me as one of its own, and accepted me as its kin. You're right, Andy & Jane ... "scars ARE magic"!!

I have a scar on the back of my head and neck, from a posterior fossa decompression and a craniocervical fusion, as well as a scar on my lower-back from two sections of the filum terminale. I also have a scar on my left bicep from a muscle biopsy, and various small circular scars on various parts of my legs from skin biopsies (three of them from nerve tissue testing, two of them where pre-melanoma moles were removed).

I love in games where damage is clearly visible. Like Arkham, or even better, Tomb Raider and Wolverine Origins in which your direct action influence the outcome of damage on the character model.

2 years too late, but Kazuya Mishima from TEKKEN. In an old animated movie you can basically see how he got all of his scars. The one on his torso from when his father threw him off a cliff (this is also when he sold his soul for revenge and why he got the devil gene) and then the scars over his shoulder/back from the tournament when attacked by mutated and manipulated dinosaurs because his adoptive brother Lee refused to let him win (he did win either way)
