The worst part about that is not that Ridley brags about eating the mother of Samus, but that he then proceeds to talk about how her dead body was still a part of his own body just to gross her out. Or as he puts it, the biomass he eats becomes a part of his own biomass, after which he goes a step further by asking which part of his body Samus thought the biomass of her dead mother was in. In other words, he made the worlds worst your mum joke.

Also in the Sonic comics, it turns out that popular character Charmy Bee is actually the crown prince of a hive that Eggman committed genocide against, leaving Charmy with deep trauma that caused him to regress to a child-like state. His partner stays with him to look after him, but she knows that the prince she loved is basically gone. Also, everyone hates him, and Sonic once nearly abandoned him to be executed when he was kidnapped- Even when Sonic decides to save Charmy, he makes it a very clear point to say "You are not my friend".

The Zelda manga is extremely hardcore. A couple of highlights include one of the Links being almost burned alive in Four Swords, showing how Linebeck's former crew got their life force sucked out _in detail_ in Phantom Hourglass, and revealing that the dragon boss in Ocarina of Time was actually Link's pet and the nightmare that followed after he defeated it. There's probably more that I'm missing, but my goodness, do they get dark when they want to. It almost makes me wonder how brutal a Breath of the Wild manga would be. Or what they could do with Spirit Tracks and Wind Waker.

Now, I don't subscribe to draconian punishments, but ever since Link walked into my home, destroyed all my clay pots, stole all my money, and for some reason walked off with my milk, it's been enraging to see him hailed as a hero of legend. In the Kingdom Hearts 1 manga, the heartless literally rips out people's hearts and crushes them. In the games, it's very cartoony, with their hearts shaped like crystals floating out. But it's very gruesome in the manga for some reason. Also, the first person we see lose their heart to a heartless, is a hooker who tries to seduce Sora.

They're pretty fun and wacky though and adds more context to some scenes, like how Sora has internal dialogue so we know exactly what he's thinking during some scenes. Overall, they're more fun if you've already played the games. If not, they'll probably be more confusing.

Speaking of comic books based on videogames, there is a hilarious one about Doom. The plot is basically "Doomguy constantly looking for bigger guns" and it has many absurd and iconic lines like "Rip and tear". However in the comic the BFG9000 shot bullets instead of energy spheres like in the game.

And also, given that the phrase "rip and tear" is so prevalent in DOOM 2016 and Eternal (even being what the Sentinels chant to honour the Slayer), as well as Doomguy canonically looking like the comic Doomguy, it's likely that the comic is actually canon to the games.

There's a lot of people talking about Assassin's Creed, which didn't so much "go off the deep end" as "forgot to put a significant amount of necessary plot in the games". I thought Revelations was going to have some sort of explanation for the ending of the previous game, turns out that explanation isn't in any game and they didn't want to pay for Lucy's voice actor anymore

I'm pretty sure there's a similar Pokemon manga series as well that is much more brutal than the game and the anime. I remember it straight up killing Pokemon instead of fainting them. And I even seem to recall a frame of a Pikachu eating another Pokemon in one issue, though I might be wrong because it's been a really long time since I last read it.

It's not exactly canon, but this reminds me of this very weird Kirby comic published in the Club Nintendo magazine in Germany in the 90s, written by the guy who did A LOT of (actual official) translations for Nintendo games. It was this Detective Noir story with Kirby as the main protagonist, which is...REALLY a massive tone shift from what we are used from Kirby. There were others as well, like a Halloween/horror themed one where Mario, Link and Kirby find Van Helsing's weapons and... well, transform into horrifying monster slayers with red eyes and sharp teeth. It features a zombified Princess Peach and Kirby as Pinhead. It was a weird time being a Nintendo kid in Germany in the 90s.

TF2 comics hit a little bit different, though, since they are the main way Valve released canonical lore for TF2. That, and TF2 as a game is kind of silly so the lore has every right to be silly as well. After all, one of the main characters is a black scottish cyclops. I think the deep end part of that series would be the mercs getting put on death row. I use deep end loosely as all of TF2 is really stupid instead of dark. The aforementioned death row is like tossing a penny in a vault full of pennies

The TF2 comics are all fun and games, until the Team Fortress mercs show up. The TF1 mercs proceed to kill off Grey Man, kill Sniper, then after Sniper gets better murder the entire TF2 merc crew twice with Grey's robots and release an army of blood sucking bots on the population of a now helplessly weak Australia. And the worst part is the story is incomplete with no expectation of it ever being finished even if the primary writer says he completed the script years ago.

This is an interesting one from the Assassins Creed franchise: Juno, one of the most important enemies from the old games and was hinted to return in Black Flag and Syndicate was resurrected in the comic run. Then she was killed off in the same comic.

How about the whole Med’an saga in the Warcraft comics? It was suppose to tie in with the Old God threats in the then-upcoming Cataclysm expansion, but the character they created for it became so powerful that he solved the threat (and then they just brought the threat back anyway with no explanation) and they basically Poochied him after that

A good starting point is Mass Effect: Deception, which spawned the "cereal killer Kai Leng" meme.

I'd like to suggest the Brazilian Mega Man comics. In short: They were written by someone who hated Mega Man and, at one point, really wanted to just murder the entire main cast and make the series about his Original Character, a scantily dressed girl with no personality outside of being annoying and boobs the size of watermelons. Also the comic was just needlessly violent and horny with Mega Man regularly hitting on Roll, who the comic flat out states, is his sister.

I remember the "zombie Pokemon" from Lavender Town, an Arbok melting one of them with acid, and a Charmeleon decapitating Arbok afterward. The manga was pretty metal, and I liked it better than the TV show. P.S. The elite 4 and half of the gym leaders were evil.

The absolute bonkers thing is the Street Fighter 2 Malibu comic CONTINUED in Brazil! It features some weird art choices and a lot of, *ahem*, fan service. I believe they've been fan translated, but there's also a few videos on here that surmise the plots and show some wacky panels!

There is a manga which was published about Sekiro shadows die twice which takes place before the events of the game. The main character is Hanbei the Undying, he's the guy you meet near the beginning of the game who teaches the player how to fight.

Oh the Archie Sonic comics gets WAAAAY weirder than that. What about the story where Sonic’s kids gets erased from existence and Shadow takes over the world and steals Sonic’s wife and Tails finds Sonic lying in a dumpster, crying out to a goddess who doesn’t exist because Shadow made her up? Also Sonic-adjacent there was the Streets of Rage comic in the Sonic the Comic series, which was a different comic book by Fleetway which had a series of SEGA-based comics for kids. Anyway in one of the early stories of the Streets of Rage comics they explode a den of drug dealers which may not entirely appropriate for a children’s comic.

Ahhh the deep DEEP well that is Sonic Comic's. The US ones were pretty funky (like the mentioned one) but the UK ones also had their fair share of WTF moments. Like how Super Sonic was a crazy version of Sonic with spiral eyes and at one time tried to kill Amy, or the time Robotnik ran a simulation where it showed the Death Egg BLASTING AWAY TAILS. Like completely atomized, and then Sonic, and we saw it in all its glory...fun times.

I actually have read both the twilight princess and metroid manga lol the metroid one was so long ago that i dont remember much about it but i do remember it being about the chozo in the beginning. As for TP, I love the manga and...weirdly forgot that was a thing? Was it censored out of the official English release or something? Dont recall him ever missing an arm even briefly...

The Elden Ring one honestly seems the most fitting, because while it isn't really in tone with the game itself, it is absolutely in tone with how players approach the game at times. One of my more memorable fights in Elden Ring is when I was fighting a magma wyrm in an area I wasn't supposed to be yet, and the only way I could defeat it was to strip all my clothes off so that my gear weight was light so I could dodge more efficiently.

as awkward zombie pinted out, Ridly especially stand sout among the majority of nintendo franchise villains, who on the whole are generally cartoony, goofy and not seen particularly seriously, mostly bowser honestly but because of that nintendo has a bit of a 'vibe' because of mario. However Ridley ISN'T goofy, or harmless, or even particuarly honourable. he's an evil dragon alien man who murders people. He's not gonna go go-karting with anyone because he's a legit pscyhopath who MURDERED Samus' parents.

I’m amazed for talking about the Brazilian street fighter comic they didn’t mention the mega man comic they also made. It was so, so much worse. It made scalping Ken look tame by comparison. And unlike Sf, the author continued his mega man comic even after losing the license.

One thing I’d like to mention is from the comics for Assassin’s Creed, in Assassin’s Creed Syndicate Juno is basically hyped up as another big bad for the series after the Lydia Frye bonus chapter set in WW1. Through data files in the same game we also find out Desmond Miles had a son he never knew about who’s also a sage named Elijah. Then in a comic book called Assassin’s Creed Uprising Elijah’s mother is killed by one of Juno’s cultists and abducted by him. It’s too much to explain without rambling on too much but Elijah ends up killing Juno at the end of the comic as revenge for his mother’s death. So Juno who was hyped up as a big bad In Syndicate and Black Flag is killed unceremoniously in a comic book and it’s cannon so she’s dead and never coming back.
