Booked a hotel in New York a while back and all the time I thought I was talking to an American booking agent in New York. Only when I asked for his name (something I normally do when dealing with somebody whether it's on the phone or in person) that I found out that I was talking to a Filipino in Manila. Before that, I asked several questions about the hotel and the surrounding area. There was no pause or hesitation in his answers. He sounded very knowledgeable about the whole thing. I got curious and asked if he'd stayed in the hotel or been to New York himself and the answer was NO. I complimented him for an excellent customer service. I told him that he sounded like he knew the place like the back of his hand. I was really impressed and I got off the phone feeling proud. My kababayan doing an excellent job. Mabuhay! This is not being biased. Just giving credit where credit is due. I'm a Filipina living in Canada and every time we go to Tim Horton's, I know right away I'm getting a good and fast service when I see Filipinos behind the counters.

I have nothing against people from India. I had classmates and co-workers who were Indians. My children have Indian classmates and friends, too. I would say many of them are brilliant and hard-working. They are great in Math and Science. Kind but very competitive. Many of them in the U.S. are doctors. My Primary Care Physician is of Indian origin. She's such a fine lady. When it comes to talking with Customer Service Representatives from India, I think I have the same problem with anyone who is not used to their heavy accent. It is hard for me to understand what they were saying. Filipino Customer Service Reps have accents, too, but not that heavy. Occasionally, there are those who speak English fluently and without a hint of Filipino accent. Impressive! These are probably the ones whose parents talked to them in English when they were little, or were bookworms (I knew of one who was just 7 years old, would get a novel, lock herself in her room and read and graduated Summa Cum Laude), or listen to narratives on social media.

@@User5260jo When I read that part of your comment that says “lock herself in her room and read a novel “, I thought, “that’s me”. 😊 I’m now 63 years old and I started reading novels when I was 12 years (Barabara Cartland, Mills and Boons from my cousins). And English classics which my mom bought and some English magazines my dad subscribed from the US for free. I would read whole night until 9am. Next day my mom thought I was sick. Lol. I didn’t sleep. I kept reading until in college I was hooked on National Geographic. My school library had many earlier years issues. Anyway, that’s how I learned English. Not to sound cocky, but I speak English very well too (without accent).

I haven't met a Filipino who started working in the BPO industry with a long-term goal in mind of becoming a CEO in the same industry. BPO jobs for Filipinos are generally a quick fix right after college until they find their true calling. That should partly explain the high employee turnover and the lack of Filipino CEOs in that industry. The biggest conglomerates in the Philippines are headed by Filipinos.

India's population is 14× bigger than the Philippines and there are a lot of Indian's who are educated abroad such as UK. These Indians are the one occupying the executive positions. But, most BPOs in the Philippines the top position is occupied by Filipinos. Unlike before wherein it is lead by expat.

I'm currently working for a BPO company as a technical chat representative for Microsoft. What I have noticed between the Indian and Filipino advocates is that Indians tend to be process driven and goes through the issue by following the linear process, they are cold and firm. Filipinos on the other hand are more empathetic and customer oriented-the interaction feels more genuine and workarounds are usually done to resolve issues. Indians are better on the technical skills side but Filipinos have better interpersonal communication skills.

Our company here in Australia used to employ Indians for outsourced voice CS. Then our email based CS division gets bombarded with emails like “they sound like a scammer”, “I don’t understand what they’re saying”, “please connect me to a native speaker” Then we decided to move our outsourcing to the Philippines and magically, the complaints were gone. I’d say hands down Philippines! One of the best people out there, willing to go beyond what is expected of them. In technical aspect as well, based on my experience, Filipinos are more adept. So the stereotype that “hire Indians for technical things” does not apply.

I don't think the goal of most Filipinos is to be CEO of a BPO. Its where you work while finding your true passion in life, or where you build your skill before offering yourself directly to companies, as self employed like virtual assistant, and just work from home permanently without a big company in between to manage you. OFC most executives are Indian because it was very big before in India, before Philippines. Most BPO in Philippines were started by their trusted or executives from India.

Working in the contact center and IT industry for almost 20 years, I observed that India based workers are very good when it comes to process compliance so good that on the downside is they tend not to be flexible when put in a situation that doesnt fall within the process. Filipinos on the other hand are the opposite and is not very process compliant but tends to be very flexible when put in a situation that deviates from their processes which allows them to adapt and go beyond their duty and able to solve problems quicker at times.

Yeah, this is true, indians are highly skilled in IT, I used to work with them in the IT industry. The only problem is they are not so accommodating and sometimes their work is problematic. On the other hand Filipinos are accommodating, know how to communicate better with clients and are very easy to deal with which gives them an edge, but Filipinos are technical too don't underestimate them and their work ethic is better. Also, Filipino's work is of high quality

There is just a lot of them, India graduates about 1.5 million ITs a year while the Philippines only have about 40,000 so it stands to reason that having a lot bigger pool of talents, their IT industry will be thriving and developing way better. The Philippines is an uncoordinated industry, more by individual effort and the best of them is probably working abroad. The Philippines don't really have IT industry like the indian's.

As a customer, I hate it when I get transferred to Indian call center. They are very rude, and are not very helpful; they seem to just stick with what the computer tells them to do. I always have to ask for a manager or someone higher who knows what they are doing. They also don’t seem to understand the issues I explain to them. The call centers from the Philippines have better customer service and are more accommodating. They are happier too. They know how to solve issues and compromise and work with the problem.

The City of Los Angeles, in California have so many Filipino engineers as employees (Civil, Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical, Geodesic) working for the City. The newly-expanded Los Angeles World Airports (LAX) have tapped Filipino Engineers in the major construction, from the ground up. Some have already retired after stepping up to the upper management level.

Ia m a Filipino and as a software developer, most of the Indians that I worked with were really good. They work faster and smarter than some of my Filipino colleagues. They have this thinking of "making the software better" while some of my fellow Filipinos have a thinking of "just get the work done and get paid". I've been serving the BPO industry for almost 5 years. The first 4 years I was in an eCommerce platform, and I only answer to emails. 1 year of taking phone calls for a well known productivity tool as a Tech Support during the lockdown. 9 months and counting, I currently work for a Pharmaceutical Company as an HR Specialist. I'm a Filipino - born and raised Manileño, the only problem in my country is that the one they're looking for offices around the metro? Those who have working experience rather than the fresh graduates. I was a fresh graduate in College back in 2014, but this industry paved the way for me. I get to work with different walks of life, different backgrounds, doesn't matter what their color is, their religion & ethnicity as long as we get along through the day. Yes, we admit there are still racial stereotypes for our Indian friends, it will be a never ending issue and I get to work with them previously. In my previous program, both of my Operations Manager and Senior Ops. Manager were Indians, and in just one snap I was able to understand their accent.

I started as a BPO rep in 2004 and climbed my career up to being a Manufacturing Executions Systems engineer. I have been deployed to differrent states in the USA. In the country where I am permanently working now, DISCRIMINATION would prevent you from climbing up the ladder further because locals do not want Filipinos to be ahead of them. I don't have an option but to let them do what they want, work solo, and feel happy that I am getting paid way higher than my PHL salary. I prefer working with Indian engineers because they are really smart and super soft-spoken people.

I think the point of the video is why is Filipino allowing barriers like discrimination to stop them while Indian, who also face the same discrimination from Whites are not discouraged and proceed with going for executive positions. I agree that if you look at maybe top 10% of IT resources, India has most of them, the problem is at the bottom, India is also in majority. It is a common knowledge in our industry that Indian analyst and/or developer would most likely be a problem. Not because they are not technically good, but because they lack communication skills in both speaking and understanding. This is based on my experience of course.

When it comes to IT it really depends on what you are looking for. I have been working in the IT industry for decades abd worked with international developers. Indians in general can solve problems relatively quickly. The problem comes once you have to maintain the software. So in simple terms indians are excellent programmers but filipinos in general are better software engineers.

This might be a little far from the message of the video, but I worked in the BPO for more than a decade. It helped me save money to help pay for my parent's house, I was also able to pay for my own but it's something that I couldn't do forever. The nightshift alone can make you go crazy. Social life, well, I didn't care about that till I got married. It's enabled me to do a lot of things but the stress, the customers, it took a toll on my mental health. so many times I lost money, had too much stress and frustrations talking to these Indian agents. all they gave me were headaches. I even experienced flight delays because of them. they are weak in comprehension, they will mislead you and will not give you options, they dont know what they are talking about. These are the reasons why I do not want to talk to Indian agents again and whenever I call for services, first thing I will tell is "please I want to talk to a Filipino agent". Filipino agents are not only clear in their words but they are giving me options and most importantly, they do not mislead me and I always commending them for those. 12:55 my opinion differs from this. Let me share something funny. I once worked in a BPO company we have an account which accommodates technical, customer service and sales. Once some technical issues gets difficult to solve we tend to connect the call over to higher technical support and they are from India however when Indians can't resolved one technical concern they connect calls to us whom they refer to as higher technical support. So my point is, there technical concerns that cannot be resolved by Indians rep that we Filipinos can though it is important to note as well that I worked not as a regular agent during that time but a top tier one 😅

I agree about India having an advantage in terms of IT infrastructures but I disagree that India having more technical skills than the Philippines as most of our skilled workers such IT professional and hardcore engineers in different fields are working abroad. In fact, Philippines is currently suffering from professional drain that led most companies to offer OFW the same salary offered abroad just to return and work in the Philippines. I've been working abroad for more than 20 years and offered multiple times by local companies to match my salary abroad and I accepted it but I resigned and back to work abroad. My reason? Traffic😄.. one time ago my employer Portuguese had a conversation with some Indian knocking our door to fixed something like AC problem and my employer called me talked to the Indian because she couldn’t understand them, after a second of conversation with them i was still confused what was they trying to explain until my employer given up and told them to comeback another day. their words was very difficult to understand even i was trying them to repeat some words but stil couldn’t understand.
