Just to answer your question Morgan! I’m not vegan either, but the reason vegans don’t consume any animal products even the ones that naturally come from animals is due to unethical treatment of those animals to get the MOST product. I won’t go into detail but this includes overcrowding in cages, painful injections of hormones, etc.. The U.S. food infrastructure leads to all non-local and mass produced food products to mistreat the animals, which is why so many people try to get locally farmed eggs, milk, etc. instead! Hope this helps ❤️
@davidharshman7645 Жыл бұрын
I will say, at least where the dairy industry is concerned, there is a lot of misinformation about alleged mistreatment of dairy cattle.

@@davidharshman7645 idk I took a class focused on agriculture production and industry and what I saw scarred me but then I realized I was being far too restrictive on my diet and for my mental health just needed to stop weight myself morally sm on it. It sucks bc really every step of the food industry has exploitation in it to some degree. I come from migrant workers so im well aware it’s not just animal products. The ideal form of farming I’ve learned is through husbandry practices but that’s not what goes on the shelves at most places bc they have smaller yields of product and the practice is dying out due to a lack of teaching next generations it :,) We hate it here!
@chllin22 Жыл бұрын
@@davidharshman7645 I just wish there was more of an industry focus and support on small farming and not taking advantage of small farmers bc we should be able to have all sorts of food and not have to worry about what happened for it to get on our plates!
@davidharshman7645 Жыл бұрын
@@chllin22If you want to support small farms because you like them better, that is 100% valid. I am just aware that there is a lot of propaganda out that with misinformation to make things seem worse than they are. And, I have enough experience with the dairy industry to know that most of the negative allegations about mistreatment of dairy cattle is completely false. Like...I have seen evidence that the chicken industry is bad, for sure. But, that doesn't inherently translate to "all animals are mistreated in all farms/industries."
@chllin22 Жыл бұрын
@@davidharshman7645 definitely agree! That’s why I think everyone going vegan isn’t the answer to fixing the food industry problems. because it labels ALL farms ALL animal products as bad. We need systemic change. I still respect people’s choice to go vegan but it’s one of those things like it doesn’t solve the root of the problem! :(

51:25 OH MAN this is such a relatable episode, Joe I know exactly what you mean with the hypnotized thing. If I'm driving on a highway I often start derealizing and I feel like I'm not the one controlling my body, everything starts feeling kind of unreal, like I'm viewing the world through a camera, and I get really anxious that I'll loose ability to steer or something. The way I try to snap back is blinking or tapping my arms or try to do something to remind me that I do in fact have control over my body. But recently I got so anxious I almost pulled over.
@bosslady88 Жыл бұрын
I get road hypnotized also if I'm on a long road trip & I'm getting bored or the slightest bit tired! It's pretty dangerous, actually... I will shake my head a little, back and forth to physically shake myself out of it. It works for me.
@bosslady88 Жыл бұрын
I dont get the anxiety of losing control of myself or the outta body feeling... I start to get blurry vision & the feeling someone gets when they are just about to fall asleep, it's a little euphoric & floaty like!

Funny story for morgan- i live in a small town. I was having some issues with fertility (not too bad but longer than i expected). I went to go pick up another pregnancy test at the local store. They keep them behind the counter locked up so you have to ask for one in front of everyone. I asked for the pregnancy test a wanted and the old lady working there said super loud as she was getting it unlocked "You already need another test?!!" Apparently she had checked me out previously and remembered me. "How many times do you have to test?" She asks loudly. I wanted to die. And cry. A girl behind me came up and said "THATS NONE OF YPUR BUSINESS MAM!" I had never met the girl but i thanked her several times for having my back when i wanted to burst into tears. I can laugh about it now as i am 6 months pregnant lol. Mind you it had been atleast a month or two between tests. Im also engaged and in a commited relationship and im 26 lol i still was embarrassed
@corablah9809 Жыл бұрын
Girl I never, ever buy my pregnancy tests because of that now, I order on Amazon or my husband does it. Im 23, we have 3 kids(4 year old & a set of 1 yr old twins), we own our home, we are a COMPLETELY normal happy family, but the times I have gone to check out with a cashier, I get side eyed because I'm young, they assume I don't have kids lol(I don't buy pregnancy tests if they are with me, and I am a chronic tester, because I get scared I'll find out a little late, I want to be on prenatal asap, we aren't trying for another at all, but I'm not on BC😂)

To answer your question about eggs, for me (a 5 year vegan for animal ethics reasons) the process of collecting eggs seems harmless. But in reality, these hens are kept in wire cages their entire life and in the most cruel conditions. They were genetically modified to over-produce eggs, which really is not good for them, and causes them to live a shortened life. Hope this can shed some light as to why many vegans don’t eat eggs 😁
@RealBradMiller Жыл бұрын
Yeah, even cage free eggs doesn't mean they get to roam free or have a good life. I adopted four chicks, and I hope they enjoyed their lives, they were free roaming, and all lived to nearly eight years old. Goofy as heck, the lot of them, and one hen would constantly try and check me and show me who was boss. 😂
@redbunny22 Жыл бұрын
Just a hypothetical because I'm curious. Would you eat eggs from someones backyard hens if they where treated well? If not I am not judging I am just wondering. I am not vegan but I am appalled at factory farming and am trying to move towards not having to buy any food I don't consider ethica,l but it is very difficult as even commercially farmed vegetables kill an incredible amount of animals in order to grow them, and well soy is one of the worst. So it feels like a loosing battle all around.
@RealBradMiller Жыл бұрын
@@redbunny22 why is soy the worst? I could see all kinds of animals and stuff making home in any crop.
@redbunny22 Жыл бұрын
@@RealBradMiller deer love soy and wont leave it alone commercial soy farms hire people to keep watch and shoot the deer then they just dispose of them. if you look into it they kill a tremendous amount of deer for a soy crop. I forget how many on average but i remember it is a lot. That's on top of all the moles voles mice and birds that get tilled up and ground up alive by the combine when they prep the fields. If you watch a combine in the field you can see scavengers running behind it to get all the free grub. sometimes you can actually hear animals scream as it hits them if you are close enough.
@BubblyVegan Жыл бұрын
@redbunny22 Personally, as a vegan I wouldn't eat eggs from a backyard hen but if you wanted to it is better than supporting factory farms. However small farms wouldn't be able to meet the demand if everyone switched to small farms. The reason factory farms exist is for amount and efficiency because people eat so many animal products. Also most of the world's soy is fed to farm animals like cattle so eating soy is better for the environment and saves more animals than eating animals, if that makes sense.

Incredible podcast!!! Don't get me wrong, super fucking disturbing on every level! But having Joe as a guest was everything! The chemistry was amazing, and they seemed like they had been friends forever (minus the fact that Morgan didn't seem to know almost anything about him... yet the way in which they were talking was like they were old friends!). Really great and entertaining collaboration! I hope that it happens again!

In many Asian cultures, and maybe South America, they don't consider chicken or fish as meat. Maybe that's why she was confused. Just like the people who say pescatarians would eat chicken 🤭 Maybe it just makes more sense to me because I speak some latin languages. Fish would be: pescado, peixe, peşte etc, that's where the term comes from.

7:05 if you want to know why people don’t eat eggs- so the problem with eggs is that the egg industry is horrendous and the chickens used for eggs are trapped in cramped tiny cages or crammed in super over crowded rooms (usually their beaks and toes get cut off so they can’t peck or scratch each other) with terrible food and a horrible life. They get slaughtered as soon as their egg production slows down (usually when they are 2 or 3 years old, which is still very young for a chicken) and the male babies are killed immediately since they can’t produce eggs. Also domestic chickens have been bred to WAY over produce eggs and it is terribly unhealthy for them (like having a period every day of your life).
