2 years ago I went in for a pam smear, told my obgyn that i was having consistent back pain, so we did an ultrasound. I had 2 dermoid cysts, 1 on each ovary, 4cm big. She told me there was nothing she can do, take some pain meds, and that was it. Last year I found a new obgyn, since I was still having back pains, but they were now worst and sometimes I couldnt even walk or get out of bed, or even do my job. New obgyn did ultrasound, my cysts were now 5 cm big each and she told me, "these are pretty big, and I would highly recommend surgery to remove it, especially since you are having so much pain as well." Had my surgery this year in Feb 2022. Turns out I didnt have 2 cysts. I actually had 5!! The two 5cms cysts were so big they were hiding the smaller cysts!!! (two 5cms, two 2cm, and one 3cm cysts) After the surgery, I got another ultrasound just so we could get a baseline of what ovaries look like, and the ultrasonographer told me, "Oh! We can actually see your ovaries now! Your cysts were so big I couldnt see them last time. Do you want to take a look?" I am in no more pain!!!! And I love my new obgyn and her staff! So resourceful and they actually listen to my concerns and help me understand things about my body! Im 12 weeks post-op and Im doing great, feel amazing, and will be trying for a baby later this year!

I've had endometriosis and ovarian cysts since 14. I'm 40 now, and as of last year, have had more surgeries than years I've been alive. My right ovary was blown apart causing massive internal bleeding causing appendicitis at 16 and my first surgery. I've now lost my right ovary and part of my right fallopian tube. The cysts I make grow so fast and are almost always 6 cm or larger. The last being 8 cm. I've had torsion happen and have lost 4 pregnancies. The last, I thought I was gonna make it, because it was the only time I made it to 5 months. Sadly, I was wrong. I have endometriosis inside my ovary, and adhesions that rip all the time. My internal organs are often attached to my abdominal wall. The physical pain I am in on a daily basis is extreme and exhausting. I am so glad that in these last years, the attitude towards women with these conditions has changed. I was told when I was 18 by one Dr in the ER that I was faking the pain, and that endometriosis is 100% cyclic and the pain psychological. 4 days later I was at home at the top of my stairs when a 9cm cyst burst and brought me down so quickly I fell down the stairs. I was rushed into surgery to stop internal bleeding and repair the damage. 2 weeks later, I went home after they removed the 8 staples from the laparotomy incision. Leaving the 50 some stitches inside to dissolve. My heart goes out to any woman going through the same things. The pain has been compared to labor. I agree. No not all cases are as bad, but ladies, mine started out small. So I ignored it. There wasn't any information out there either. If you are here because you're worried about pain you're feeling, don't be like me! Don't ignore it. Go to your doctor, ask a shit ton of questions, and if they don't seem to care, get another doc. A specialist whenever possible. Get an ultrasound, topical AND internal. And don't be afraid to fight for yourself. The pain is real. It is not cyclic. But it can get worse during menstruation. We are an incredibly strong sex, but we don't have to just tough it out. We do that enough. Much love ladies 💜

I had cyst on my left ovary. I was told by gynae nothing to worry about. Pain persist. I went back to another gynae consultant . I had surgery. The surgery was just remove cyst. During surgery they found my left ovary covered in cysts along with my right ovary . So both by ovary removed . Further tests showed that the cysts had spread to my omentum and I had to have further surgery to remove my omentum. The cysts were borderline cancerous. Had I not gone back to see another gynae and gave a second opinion I most certainly would have full blown cancer. So ladies never give up checking . If your not happy with diagnosis go back. You life may depend on it. I went into have cancer debunking surgery which basically removes anything the cancerous cells may have seeded into, hysterectomy, both ovaries tubes, appendix, omentum (stomach lining) gall bladder . It’s been quite a journey.

For over 20 years I was in constant pain I was back and forth to the doctors I was diagnosed for years then I was told I had pcos and endometriosis anyway I was told it’s not dangerous and was sent on my Merry way, but as the years past the pains got worse and worse I was constantly told it’s just constipation because I’m thin so I was sent for more test and was told i have diverticulitis so nothing was done and the pains constantly consisted then I started losing weight as when I would eat a mouthful of food I’d be full up then I started being sick every day for about two years, so I go back to the doctors and told them that the pain is just constantly there she said it’s most probably just poo as she could feel a lump in my tummy then she said it was just constipation so I lied and said I had been a poo twice in the morning I hadn’t so I was sent for a scan and blood tests my blood markers came back really high and in the scan I was told my ovary was 72 mm big , my mum said so what does that mean the nurse said well it’s supposed to be about 30 mm. So then the nurse left the room and came back in with loads of doctors they was looking at the images on the scan and I was told to get dressed and wait so we did I was then taken into a room and told I will need surgery to remove this cyst. Within a few days I was called back to the hospital and taken to the McMillan department then told that they suspected it was a chocolate ovarian cancer cyst I was given a big green McMillan diary with loads of information and to try not to worry. I came home expecting to have surgery at my local hospital but no I was sent to st Thomas I was taken into the cancer department and was explained everything that will happen and was booked in for a operation in a few months time then a few days later I get a call from my mum saying the hospital have rang and there has been a cancellation and my operation is in two days time so the day came we all went to the hospital I got settled in for the morning surgery and on the way down to the operating room I said lucky there was a cancellation the doctors said there wasn’t a cancellation we needed to get you into surgery ASAP as it could rupture at any time so my mum fibbed because she didn’t want to scare me. I had a twelve hour operation to remove my ovary, tube and lymph nodes in my tummy just in case the cancer had spread... so I’m grateful to still be alive but I wanted to know if I could claim compensation for going through this for twenty odd years and being misdiagnosed three times I mean if I hadn’t of said I’d been a toilet that day I would of just been sent home still in pain like a ticking time bomb so do I have any rights ?

I didn't know I had endometriosis until last year when a 25cm endometrioma ruptured at the age of 24. I was rushed to the ER and had an emergency surgery where the surgeon drained the cyst and removed the right ovary and tube it was attached to. It was the worst pain I've ever felt and I really felt I was dying. I had to get two blood transfusions before my surgery because I was losing a lot of blood, and I got sepsis. Unfortunately since the surgeon wasn't an endo specialist and she only drained the cyst instead of removing it, the cyst has grown back. I also found out from ultrasound I have more cysts on my left remaining ovary. Going in for surgery again this October with an expert and I hope it will be the last surgery I get in a long time. Funnily enough I didn't have much symptoms even with my giant cyst. I wish there was more awareness of this topic because I never even heard of the term endometriosis before my diagnosis, and I thought I was healthy!

Hi Dr. I have serous cytadenoma. Was feeling bloated had notice changes in my bowel movement, constipation, feeling full, pressure in pelvic area similar to pain when holding per for long time & pain during intercourse. Ultrasound showed 9.1cm serous cystadenoma. Looks like clear fluid 1 possible thin wall septation . They suggested monitoring 3-6-12 months. However following the ultrasound my pain just progressively got more constant and started extending to lower back upper left and eventually right leg. I’m 26y old I’m worried of cancer because my sister was diagnosed with rare form of lung cancer at 27 (never smoked before) and it started out as a cyst that cancer had developed on top off. My mom had stomach and thyroid cancers. My aunt had mucenous boderline cystadenomas removed when she was 60 but was told boderline are more often seen in younger women. I’m worried I have some kind of family history here even tho they tell me it’s most likely not related. My doc did advise me to encourage my mom getting genetic testings. I’m worried that it seems like typically serous cystadenoma are seen in older women? I’m only 26. Also I have seen that low grade serous cystadecarcinoma which is most often seen in younger women is thought to evolve from boderline cystadenoma that formed from serous cystadenoma…. I took 125 test even though I was told it is pointless because can be false from menstruations or even certain types of ovarian cancers ( like lgsoc) don’t show up on 125. It was negative so that’s good but it won’t tell me the future. I asked if MRI OR CT scan could give more answers they said no so I don’t want to push it. I’m opting for surgery mainly because my symptoms aren’t going away and although they don’t seem to be getting sharper they do seem to be spreading and more constant. They told me for surgery they would drain the cyst in cavity with no spillage method via laparoscopy . I’m worried about contamination if pathology comes back cancer I know even though my chances are low there is still a possibility and somehow I’m skeptical because my cyst seems to be more rare at my age. They also offered laparotomy with removing ovary. PLEASE give me your opinion on my cyst. Based on my family history my aunt having had boderline cyst. My age 26 with serous cystadenoma is that common??? They won’t let me get another opinion so I’m staying whit that same gynecologist… idk what to think

Please keep me updated on what happens. I don’t have the history but am waiting for my ultrasound results and I believe I have something like a cystadenocarcinoma based off of research and what I saw on the ultrasound screen. I don’t know the path I’m going to take but I am concerned I could already have metastasis based off of some symptoms. Would love to hear your path develop.

I recall some years ago on my thirties I had developed a pin head cyst on 1 of my ovaries. I didn't know why I was spotting cuz my regular cycle was always firm/ solid 28-30 days Come to find out I had a " pin head" cyst" on my ovarie, and she told me the spotting should go away. And it did. Fast fwd 10 years. I had them catscans, the long wand inserted, and was suggested I have it out but I just been living with it. Some days it's fine, it comes & goes Great video

I had a functional cyst on my ovary during my pregnancy. GOD that hurt. That was in my mid 20’s. Now that I’m in my late 30’s I JUST had a laparoscopy to remove an extremely large functional cyst that would not go away after years of keeping an eye on it every three months and birth control and horrible periods, adeno diagnosis and weird heavy painful periods for weeks. Now it’s the day after surgery to remove it and I just realized that THAT SPECIFIC always there pain… is gone. I’m in so much other pain but the cyst … gone.

I had a hysterectomy in 2022 because my uterus was full of huge fibroids. So they did the ultrasound today and said I have a lot of fluid around my left ovary so a cyst ruptured and I am OK. But my Gawd the pain! I am already on pain medication due to RA and Lupus and this pain.. Holy shite! Doctors here have to give women that have these pain meds stronger than Tylenol and IBUPROFEN. I didn't know ovarian cysts were a thing until last year when i woke up one day with unbearable pain and had to be taken to the hospital immediately. No one took my pain seriously. I got told by many doctors that it's normal to have "periodpain" and fhat I'm overreacting since I'm still in puberty. I threw up all the meds i received and nothing helped until i went through proper treatment and had to go through surgery. It turned out that i had a 15 centimeters long cyst inside me. Now I'm forever afraid of cysts 😅

I’ve had cysts basically since I started having cycles. In 2014 I started having abdominal pain that grew worse as the hours passed. I came home from working second shift and could hardly walk at that point so I went to bed, hoping it would be better in the morning. A few hours later the pain was so severe that I was crying and literally could not move at all. My husband helped me get dressed and we went to the ER. After HOURS of writhing and moaning in pain as multiple tests were conducted, they finally determined that I had internal bleeding from a ruptured cyst and needed emergency surgery. I had blood around my liver and spleen and that was the MOST excruciating pain I’ve ever felt. I couldn’t lie flat and I couldn’t even move to take my clothes off and put a hospital gown on in the OR. They had to wait to change me until I had some anesthesia. Recovery was smooth and although I had painful cysts numerous times after that, I’m fortunate enough to have avoided another hemorrhagic one.

Last week I was having what I thought was normal period cramps. I have a mirena iud so my cramps have gotten more severe since getting it. Then I woke up after only being asleep for an hour with EXCRUCIATING PAIN! It started in my left ovary, and it spread it my right side, up both sides to my hips and around to my back. I was screaming and crying. My husband, bless his heart, kept trying to get me to go to the hospital but I said no. No position was less painful than the others and I ended up on my elbows and knees, biting into the pillow while I was screaming and crying. I was worried that I was either pregnant with my IUD, my IUD had moved, or that I was getting stabbed by a ghost. My husband gave me two extra strength Tylenol and four ibuprofen. I managed to fall asleep after another hour of pain and when I woke up I felt fine and I hadn’t had any more pain. It was really weird and I didn’t go see a doctor about it since I felt fine (a little stupid I know but I don’t have insurance so I couldn’t afford it out of pocket)

Good evening Doctor, I had an ultrasound done one day after a miscarriage, there was a finding that concerns me thank you for this. Idea but I didn’t hear about involuting cysts, My findings were “The right ovary measures 45 x 20 x 25 mm for an estimated volume of 11.7 mL and is remarkable for an involuting cyst measuring at most 36 mm.” AND “ A few internal debris and echoes are present. Upon color imaging, a focal area of endometrial tissue appears intimately related to a feeding vessel. This measures 39 x 15 x 24 mm.” What does that mean. I’m worried!

I have a period regularly, but I've been diagnosed with PCOS. I am not ovulating, my ovaries are small. I still don't know what this means, how this is clinically significant. I've been with my husband for 7 years, never really "taken" precautions to prevent pregnancy because we were waiting for it to happen in it's due time. Never even had a pregnancy scare or anything. I always thought we aren't pregnant yet because it's not time. I truly started getting concerned as of recently, and that's when I was diagnosed with PCOS/Insulin Resistance. I don't get it though, I've always been dedicated to gym, yes I have weight gain I cannot explain but I take care. This is just so stressful, and scary. Because it'll break my heart if I get diagnosed as infertile. Ugh, I don't know. Maybe I'm thinking too much on it.

Ten years ago I woke up in the middle of the night with extreme pain in my right lower abdomin/groin area. I called my physician, (a naturopath not a gyn). and she diagnosed me with an injury to my psoas muscle. The pain happened after a week long dance workshop in which I had done lots of lunges. I'm wondering if what happened then was actually an ovarian cyst rupture? How can you tell if you don't know you have a cyst to begin with? Since that pain began 10 years ago (I was 56 at that time and on plant-based, natural hormone replacement) the pain in my right belly/groin area has slowly gotten worse over the years. I had yearly pap smears and pelvic exams but didn't ever detect any cysts that way. Thinking it was a muscle injury I did sessions of physical therapy which did nothing and also got rolfing thinking it might help. No where along the way did anyone mention ovarian cyst! I'm self employed and didn't have health insurance until I was old enough to qualify for medicare and supplemental. I was paying for all my yearly medical care out of pocket. A few months ago at age 66 it was so bad I went to the ER. They said I had sciatica and to go home there was no need for any further diagnostics. I insisted that there was something inside me causing the pain. So they did a CTscan and discovered a 5cm simple cyst. I felt increasingly debilitated by the pain and a month ago had laparoscopic surgery to remove the cyst and ovary, kept the left ovary, and removed both fallopian tubes. My belly still feels quite bloated. I took two weeks off work after the surgery. It was more intense recovering than I anticipated. I felt in a fog, extremely weepy, eyes got dilated so now have to wear sunglasses, and my sleep was disregulated. Would lie awake till the wee hours even though I was so tired. I did take walks everyday and ate really well and simple easy to digest foods. I didn't take much pain medication. The gas was very uncomfortable the first few days but I read to blow into a straw a few minutes every hour. A straw in a glass of water. That tip worked great for me and made it possible for me to lay down flat in the bed. So really thankful to have had the surgery. I've learned more from KZbin videos than I have from my male gynecologist. Still wondering if the pain ten years ago was a cyst rupture. Could the 5cm cyst I just had removed have been in there for 10 years? Thanks for a explaining how cysts form.
