Because I dig your style randy...order some .TOOLING FOAM from UNITED RESIN CORPORATION...get ya a sample pack. Now the magic...you can shape it mold it form it whatever...as it sets up slowly ...you can also drill and tap sand it and stain it once it sets up. Also called marine tooling foam. Lemme know if this changes your work

Right - Glad you didn't super glue the guitar to your hand and wind up in an emergency room! Get this thing off me!!! Yeah good move wearing the glove.... Keep Smiling, Adam

I put a new top on an old ovation a few years ago. To my surprise it was a fairly easy job. You did a good job, I may have done the same thing, but I wonder if carbon fiber cloth with epoxy would stick to the plastic. I don't know but the way you fixed it should last for years. Great repair.

Randy, you sure earned your wings on THAT repair.......my goodness. To each his/her own, but I never much cared for them Ovation's. They've got a nice neck though.

I have a 1816 legend (diamond inlays, gold tuners, volume/eq, cutaway, shallow body) in good shape - a few dings in the headstock and a ding in the top near where the right arm would be. it plays fine, the action seems high at the 12th fret, bit difficult fretting chords up the neck...the bowl is separating from the top like this vid. I wanted to repair, but found I barely have any time to keep up with house repairs.

Another masterful Randy repair. It's always entertaining but is always educational Randy. Thanks for sharing your imagination. I did a couple repairs on a Tyler Mountain acoustic that came from your common sense thinking(and mine), A small crack in the neck with CA glue and a top bulge(belly?) with lots of humidification and a weight. And I thank YOU for that. You rock !!!

Randy, for years I owned Ovation Custom Balladeers… over 30yrs. Such a full sound out the 12 string models. Top finally gave way … no fixing it and they are no longer an American made guitar… the model you had was an Applause model. What was the cost vs/ value of that repair?

the owner bought a replacement for this guitar as he feared it could not be fixed, the overall repairs exceeded what he paid for another guitar nearly identical to this one, he said this one had a sentimental value is why he spent so much money to have it repaired, I may upload other repairs I did to this guitar. thanks for watching!

Just a suggestion you may have luck using a pair of pinch clamp pliers you can adjust them to hold your block of wood and the cable can be used as a handle.

I remember when you did this guitar. I’ve never liked working on Ovations. The tops always break along the fan braces and they’re impossible to get flat again. I know you did this a long time ago but I was thinking embedding repair magnets in the top and radius of the block. Then once the glue is on you could almost just get it close and it would snap into position.

good point! I'm like you I really don't like working on these brands of guitars, I guess they have their place in music but they're not for me. thanks man for having a look!

Ive got a Ovation Anniversary 1657. with original case. I think it was made in the mis 80s but not sure. It is in great shape other than bridge pick up is bad and volumen knob is missing. Wish I could find original pick up and volume knob for it.I got it in a pawn shop for $75.00 best deal I've ever bought

Great job Randy! I've come across some challenges during my 20 years of repairing guitars and this one would be up there! I made a little tool that helps me pull kleets in the inside of a guitar body while repairing cracks. If you like, shoot me an email. I'd love to share it with you. Thanks Randy! Stay awesome! Jason

Cool video thumbs up. What would the factory recommend to fix that? lol. I'd never buy one of those guitars unless I could sell it quickly, lol. I hope you are doing well. Stay well & safe.
