Mike, I need to hear you say you are not a CPA again before you tell these people what is and is not a write off. The tax code is not black and white by any means. I love that you take the time to help people understand how to work as efficient as possible and I respect it! But even your pay is determined by BS opaque algorithms and inconsistent pay structures. Therefore, every driver is responsible for every spec of their data which builds their specific annual income statements, cashflow statements, & balance sheets. And even gathering this data to then plug in and calculate takes more time than most people have ...oh and patience to understand is an uphill battle in itself. Gig workers are not covered under a # of state and/or federal employment & labor laws like employees are. However, they do have more flexibility with their taxes but the downside can be that with more power comes more responsibilities. I know you mean well in guiding fellow gig workers but maybe dive deeper into that area before handing out blunt tax advice then saying "now I'm not a CPA but typically" ...Not only is our current workforce climate changing rapidly, the gig economy and these platforms running it are not typical. Unions are typical. Paystubs that are transparent are typical. Consider it.

The $14.50 order you were talking about all depends on the delivery route and what restaurant I'm going to for me 7.6 miles. I always look at where I have to go. If there are more lights and busier traffic I wouldn't accept it. Not when I can decline that order and accept a 8-10 dollar order for 3-4 miles that I know I can get to quickly then accept another order for another 6-9 dollar one for 3-4 miles. The route of the order and the restaurant I'm going to is a priority for me. I know what restaurants are slow and fast pick ups. The quicker delivery is the best option in my opinion. I did a 11 mile delivery for 16 dollars. The restaurant was right off the freeway and the drop off was less than a mile off the freeway. Took 25 minutes from the time I accepted the order till I dropped it off. I was out today for 10 hours and made 239 dollars. That's about my average. I work 7 days a week.

Did that 11 mile drive take you to a different zone? Or did you drive that same 11 miles back down the highway to get back to your initial zone? Because from my understanding if I took that and decided to drive back down to wherever I picked up the order in the first place, then I’m basically wasting gas / working for free at that point unless I zone hopped into whatever the new zone is at drop off which is kind of a 50/50 chance that the new zone could suck balls.

@@ZachAtaxx that did take me out of my zone about 5 miles. . The trip to the house though was only. 10 mins. The other 15 was getting to the store and waiting. It took me about 10 mins to get back to my hotspot and received another order soon as I got back to my hotspot My point is that 35 mins I made 16 dollar's. My goal is 20-25 an hour. Just because you go out of your zone doesn't mean you shouldn't do them. Like I said quick routes are the best. My route coming back was the freeway. Where I can do 75 mph. Now if my route wasn't the freeway for that 11 mile trip. And it was taking me 5 miles out of my zone I wouldn't have accepted it. Don't see how you think you or I, for that matter worked for free just because you have to drive back to your zone. You are getting paid to deliver someone's order. I got paid 16 dollar's for 35 mins of work. Where I come from that's pretty good. Especially if it's only having to drive someone's order to them.

Excellent video, Mike, as always. Your gig work videos are consistently the best on KZbin. Shop & Deliver: Granted, I'm not an A+ shopper. In fact, I find it takes me 90 seconds on average to find the customer's product. Factor in drive time/distance to the store, drive time/distance to the customer, and non-shopping time (checkout lane waits, for example) and you can see that Shop & Deliver orders are rarely financially beneficial to accept. I'll only accept them now if a segment of my shift is slow and I want a change of pace (that is, a break from food pickup and delivery).

I do food deliveries for Doordash/Uber Eats/GrubHub around the Twin Cities in MN part time. I did some deliveries in Indianapolis as well around 2019-2020. I don't bother with any orders under 7-9 bucks. I also don't bother with any restaurants that make me wait more than 15 mins. I don't drive in areas that make me nervous or I dislike being in such as downtown. I'm a little rusty with my math. So I reject orders until I get a $7-9+ order that's about equal or more to the total miles I'd be driving. Between the two marketplaces I've delivered in, not only have most restaurants had the orders ready if not 2-3 minutes to wait but its much more busier in the Twin Cities. My best suggestion for sure that follows with your suggestions is know your marketplace and find areas that have the most orders in the apps you'll be delivering for.

Do DD or any of these apps know which mile is commuting? Like I’m using Gridwise, so does DD know miles? Or how does the IRS know which miles is eligible which is not?

I just started but I already noticed if I go to the next zone over which is +3.00 but the deliveries are further since its a more rural area(the map always says very busy thats a lie) . I feel its a waste of time.

I could get away with being picky in 2021 but so far it might just be the early months of the year I had to drop my standards. Now anything that is 1-1.25 a mile is good for me. So if it's 4 miles for 6 ill take it because things have gotten super slow in my area. Some places like MCD and other fast-food places I don't go to because of the drive-thru and no open lobbies for pickup. When it's super busy I can afford to cherry-pick but when it's slow gotta take the lower-paying orders to make money 5. Nothing below that tho for me. I had to adapt to the slowness of the market otherwise I would be making no money at all.

What I dislike is; Doordash will deactivate your Dasher Account, should a certain percentage of orders are declined. It's almost like forcing the Dasher to accept less pay to a certain extent.

Anyone who is not riding off all of their mileage and omitting commuting miles when calculating their mileage right off is stupid! There is absolutely no way the IRS would ever be interested in auditing your tax return for those small nickels and dimes. They are interested in big fish that have multi hundred thousand dollar deductions that they are taking and trying to find the lie for a huge payout. That is efficiency in regards to the IRS. One thing I hate is going to a Peak pay area where it says very busy. And then I only get like two orders per hour. I have sat more in this one peak pay zone near me than I have anywhere else. Normally it’s pretty much one order to another order without parking and waiting. But in this peak pay zone, I park and wait. I don’t see how it can be very busy and have me not get orders. It’s very strange. And I have tested this zone 10 times.

Hey Mike. Question: If I am doing an order where I have to shop for the customers items (CVS or Walgreens), and the store doesn’t have an item on the shelf, I call and text the customer, wait 5 mins and don’t get a reply, should I substitute or issue refund? The only reason I ask is because the customer enters the tip amount before I start shopping so if I issue a refund for several items and the customer only gets 2 items out of 10 for example, they tipped a lot and didn’t get much. Hopefully I explained it well, thanks.
@LizBJ0urney2 жыл бұрын
If you don't get a response then u should issue a refund... Most times if the customer want to substitute they would already have chosen just in case before u get the order... Money is time so if you wait 5 mins and no response checkout and deliver

lately, the app has been saying busy and then not busy within about 10 seconds. i've actually watched it change up very quickly. from "not busy" to "very busy" and back to "not busy" within less than a minute. for example, i will check the app and it will tell me it's busy in my area but by the time i put on my shoes, it will no longer be busy. it doesn't take long to put on shoes, so i don't even know what that's about. i've just started waiting until i get an order worth accepting before leaving the house...but even still, sometimes i'll complete that one order and then all of a sudden, it's not busy anymore. how is it going to be "busy" for only 30 seconds or only 10 minutes?!

Great video - so you have pointed out these longer delivery "ending" times to see if the money/gas expense is worth the time - makes sense. But is there any way of adding an additional pickup/delivery during that time (on the way, etc) where you could have it alert you and now show the new total time for all deliveries - say your two delivery example which would take 40 min. to the end, now the app says, one hour total time. OR, is that time you showed of that 40 min. say, the "real" time it takes to drive there to pick up both?
@suzanne1816 Жыл бұрын
Also, I live in a really nice large town with lots of restaurants, etc. with a few different zip codes - When signing up, will the app let us enter just our "town" name (without zip code)for choice of delivery, so that it will pick up ALL of my town vs picking up on a couple other directions outside the town where I don't want to be (but are considered close in mileage) I just want to make sure I fill out registration the right way to make this happen - thanks!

Only show the first pick up restaurant at the map. No restaurant name. U can off line then go online. Or turn off the app at ur phone, then re-turn on the Uber eat delivery app. But after u rejected 1 ,2 or 3 orders shows the informations, same problem will happen again. I tried to finished a non-info order. It was like 2.5 - 3 miles total at my guess. Once i finish the order. The money amount only shows the base pay first, no estimate tip show. But after a hour the tip did add on. What do you think about this? System issues? I never see this b4.

@TheEvan8902 жыл бұрын
I run with a solid 10 percent acceptance rate. Acceptance rate means nothing unless you want to be a "preffered" dasher (you really don't gain anything from that). Focus on just keeping your completion rate above 80 percent. They can remove you from the platform if you fall below 80 percent due to fraud reasons! Happy Dashing 😂!
@richeyrich22032 жыл бұрын
@@TheEvan890 it’s funny. If you become preferred, you get priority on runs compared to non preferred. So, that could be good in that you get the good orders first, but bad because you get the bad orders first too. And you gotta take the Kobe orders to get the priority… it’s a crap feedback cycle.
