@gamesbloke4 ай бұрын
The closest we ever got was Virtua Racing on Switch... This port was amazing under the Sega Ages label. The whole Sega Ages range on Switch sold poorly so no chance for Model 2/3 ports. Sega binned off Sega Ages after the second batch of games released. Been wanting a port of Scud Race for over 24 years. Sega will NEVER EVER release a collection of 3D games under any circumstances. They are struggling financially at present so if it's not a certified banger it'll get dropped. I have no doubt that M2 had the 'Keys To The Kingdom' with regards to Sega IP. I'm sure they were cooking up something special for a Model 2 port. But that got sent to the Shadow Realm real quick when the Switch Ages games sold poorly. There are so many games that Sega could spend time porting just to bring in some revenue aka Sega Rally. Just put out Saturn Rally with cleaner textures. Do it for 15 quid or dollars. Boom. It's quick and not creative but it starts the process of bringing in revenue for the bigger projects. But alas they don't...

@@gamesbloke I wonder why we haven't gotten a Sega Racing Classic bundle of sorts so they could re-release Daytona USA without the Daytona name. The first Sega Racing Classic has been a thing decade ago, which was basically a remaster of the original Daytona on modern arcade hardware (of the time), whereas the second Sega Racing Classic was a remaster for Daytona 2 which was included on Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth.

@@gunsharck Not only that. There were some pretty good arcade racers back in the day that weren't Sega Rally too. On the PC, the Screamer Rally series offered a similar gameplay, where you had to master the drift to get good. And I have memories of playing a similar racer against friends on a LAN party, a couple of years later and with better graphics, but I forgot the name. Not sure about later stuff, as racers weren't my main genre, and I had a huge gaming hiatus between approx. 2003-2014. For me it comes down to how it feels when playing. I really don't mind any minor differences in the tracks and would be completely ok with all new original tracks as long as it controlled the same as the original or SR2. Even if it doesn't nail it, I do feel compelled to support the developer and all developers making homages to SEGA's finest racers. @@2012JvN The point I was trying to make is that while the Saturn port is compromised, it still feels like the arcade game - the presentation, the bright colours, the soundtrack, the handling. As much as it's painted as a tribute or remake or homage or whatever you want to call it, Over Jump Rally doesn't seem to have much, if any of that. If I'm not able to perform a five second long drift around the final corner of the desert course without having to worry about clattering into a fence that's far too close to the track, then it ain't Sega Rally.

I hate to say it, but looking at the current attitude of the developer of Over Jump Rally, it seems like there will be a second Sonic Omens. Developers are ignoring important feedback. I hope the DDI Rally Championship goes well.

Nice comparison, Dan. The visuals look very good, especially for a one man's work, but I would like them to be a tad more colourful, and I'm not a fan of the way too distracting "fire & smoke" section. I thought the goal was just to pay an homage, thus not replicating the tracks of the original game, but since it does, it has to be as accurate as possible, and I see it's not totally the case. But the big question is : will the gameplay compare ? This has always been the most important aspect of SEGA Rally.

People shouldn't be so fussy. I remember Sega rally 3 online had a recreation of the Sega Rally 1 Desert course which also wasn't 100% accurate. It didn't bother me and that was an official game. When it comes to indie devs making a recreations of classic arcade games you have to cut them a bit of slack. A dev needs to have some creative licence otherwise why bother making the game?
@SEGAGuys4 ай бұрын
I would say it’s fussy to be interested in whether the game design allows play as originally intended if it is marketed as a remake, it will vary between players as far as what they are specifically looking for in this sort of game. Metal Gear Solid Delta for example, steadfastly holds to the original design and animations despite them looking slightly janky with modern visuals so that the classic MGS3 gameplay is intact. Sega Rally 3 having the Desert Course was an interesting bonus, but it’s a less well regarded interpretation compared to the Saturn and Arcade originals. By the same token, Sega Rally 3 was a sequel with original content, it wasn't sold on the promise of Desert being remade, that was just an extra. The developer 100% deserves praise for what they have achieved. For this video it really was just a case of seeing how close the two were. For some getting the remake is going to come down to how closely it mimics Sega Rally, and while I do sprinkle my own opinion in there a little, ultimately whether those differences matter will depend person to person, and hopefully the video will help inform people one way or the other, and if people enjoy it, the links for the game and for the dev are in the description of the video - Dan

But people who are interested in this game are mainly millenials who grew up with Sega Rally, and basically, when we want to feel nostalgic... we just play the original game. lol (and well, that goes for most other games too) I understand guys in my generation who always want to revive old games (I'm one of them!), but most of the time, it doesn't capture the original feeling. Ignorance is rife. There are COUNTLESS different accents and dialects within the English language, and ALL of them are valid. YOU must be versatile enough to adapt YOUR ear as opposed to demanding that people adapt their tongue to suit your conformist, prescriptive view of language. Furthermore, English is NOT a phonetically written language. Following your logic, we should pronounce Wednesday: Wed-nes-day Different vowels in birth, word, heard, absurd, instead of the same one most dialects use. Read (present tense) and Read (past simple) should also be pronounced the same with your logic. Where is the R in Colonel?? Ad infinitum Finally, heterogeneity in language pronunciation gives a language and its culture vibrance, and a color palette that reflects the deeper nuances of our respective cultures and sub cultures.
