Hey y'all! I hope you're enjoying today's reaction, and thank you so much again being here with me through all of it!! I'm realizing I misspoke about Greg and Wyrt in the heat of my own emotions. They're half brothers! Not step! Silly Kat. Thank you all for catching that one!! What an incredible journey this show was and I hope you all enjoyed it with me 🖤

These two episodes are so good. The loveliest lies of all, indeed. I love how Ep. 9 just completely reframes the entire show and especially Wirt. The Jason Funderberker reveal is perfection - immediately showing how everything is amplified by Wirt's anxiety. Also lots of awesome little details in the episode, like the grave of Quincy Endicott. Your genuine reactions were so much fun to watch. Also, you can find the "For Sara" tape on KZbin, complete with clarinet and Elijah Wood reading poetry!

I love the payoff for Greg's cycling of names for the frog; it's only when Wirt gives it name, and thereby cements that he thinks of them as brothers, that Greg thinks it's the perfect frog name.
@bluetaffy278524 күн бұрын
Episode 9 really hits hard by jumping back to Wirt before all his growth, when he's just got simple teen anxieties and blames his brother (and step dad) for all his problems. Then jumping back to where we left off, and he knows it's all his fault, his high school crush is nothing compared to the full realization of how he failed to look after Greg who only ever looked up to him. This show is the classic "lost child in fairy land" coming of age story, but I don't think I've seen a coming of age so successfully drive home the contrast between adolescent fears and adult ones. A girl thinking he's weird is the end of the world, vs being responsible for losing his brother.

The way Wirt says "You, and your stupid dad!" tells so much while leaving plenty to the imagination, and I love it.

"I was never any good to him alive, either" hits me every single time. And Wirt may have beat the Beast, but his true challenge waits back home: Jason Funderburker! If you want another show like this one, I'd recommend Infinity Train, if it's still available to watch. Based on your reactions to this one I think you'd like it.

I love how everything makes sense in the end, from the clothes they wear since the start to the reason they are in the forest. In episode 9 you can see in one of the graves the name "Quincy Endicott", the name of the rich guy from one of the previous episodes. So, in their adventure Greg and Wirt dealt with their own unfinished business like returning the rock, naming the frog and the tape for Sara, BUT they also helped some lost souls to move on and complete their own unfinished business, like Beatrice with her family, the evil spirit that tormented Lorna, even the woodsman reunite with his daughter. I first thought years ago that this show was going to be about mystery like gravity falls but it's perfect the way that it is, a beautiful compact story.

When I was first watching I was so confused like "forget where are we, WHEN are we?" Between their old fashioned and unusual outfits, the different settings, and them inquiring about a phone, just... such a range of possibilities. So when it was revealed that they were wearing halloween costumes, my mind was blown but it made so much sense haha. Also Greg's tea kettle being an elephant costume!! Too cuteeeee 😭♥♥

Now that we're finally at the end, I can say how amazed I was at how quickly you clocked the purgatory twist, and all the similarities to Dante's Inferno This is such a wonderful, beautiful, amazing masterpiece of a series. A true modern classic in every sense of the word. I'm so glad I got to watch it with you. And it'll be a treat to see your reaction with Paula sometime in the future too, because this show has so many little details and easter eggs that give it so much rewatch value. Happy Halloween 🧡

Thank you for the reaction series! This is a really incredible little miniseries. I took the very ending to actually mean the opposite, that the boys did die there. The narrator almost feels dismissive with the "an ending everybody is happy with" line, and then the line "the loveliest lies of all" lead me to believe that, like most classical fairy tales, the ending was more tragic and gruesome than what we actually saw. I want to believe that they lived, and I'll take what the show presents to us to make it hurt less, but that was my interpretation and I am having a hard time convincing myself otherwise.
@LJLvids25 күн бұрын
Now that you've reached the end, there's some things I'd like to add, the unknown isn't a purgatory exactly, it's an 'in-between' place. It's in between both life and death, but also between fact and fiction, between dream and reality, lie and truth, etc... (this info comes from interviews and the artbook (which i own)). Also, Wirt and Greg are half-brothers, not step brothers, just to avoid confusion. The over the garden walls comics, while I have some mixed opinions on them on the whole, provide a nice little extra look into this world, the one that explains the deal with what happened to the woodsman's daughter is especially good. I'm so happy you liked the series, it's a personal all time favourite and I rewatch it every year around October. Also the pilot episode is 100% worth checking out, it used to be on youtube before Cartoon Network/max went all delete-crazy. If you rewatch it with Paula you should definitely watch it either after around episode 2 or after you watched them all. It's non-canon and based on a slightly older version of what the plot would be but it still has the same charm and vibes. Fun bonus fact, next month (on the second i believe), there'll be a fun little otgw x Aardman animation crossover to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the series PS. I've seen people recommend infinity train, I very much second that, when that show was first airing we thought it would be short series, much like otgw, until the season 1 finale aired and; surprise! there'll be more seasons. (that's why these 2 shows are so often brought up together). It'll be straight up you guys' sci-fi alley.

episodes 9 and 10 blew me away .. the whole time I was thinking the story was set in the 1800s or something but HOW good was the twist of it being costumes and set in the relatively modern times 90s/ 2000s (I believe) on Halloween night ? And the woods being a metaphor for a place between life and death?! Never would've guessed that in the beginning of the show even though the signs were definitely there. But to my defense I watched the whole thing in one sitting as a movie😅. And how WELL the beginning and ending match .. so cool watching the beginning song- sequence of the first episode after finishing the show. Definitely a great re- watch show! There are so many hidden details for example the name of the mad Tea- factory owner in "Mad Love" being a name on one of the gravestones at the graveyard. So cool. I would definitely join for a rewatch with you and Paula ❤

I believe in the "Dark Lantern" he says his Mom remarried and gave birth to Greg. In some ways this could maybe make his situation more awkward. He is the child of a previous relationship in a couple where Greg is the child of both of them. I have a nephew in that situation and I think it was sometimes awkward for him. Like you're the "odd one out" even if no one says that or makes you feel that. (Indeed it sounds like the stepdad wants to be helpful, but this is taken as pushy.) I don't think it's ever clear what happened to Wirt's Dad, although I gather there are comics that go more into these two characters. Also I like stealing a rock is a big thing to Greg. It feels like nothing, but he didn't do it for a good reason like stealing the one guys clothes. And "young man" Lady Daniels was nice to him. So it likely feels like a huge betrayal in his childlike world.

This is a very special show. I'm glad that Wirt and Beatrice made amends, but it's somewhat unfortunate that they have to part ways afterwards. Wirt, Greg, and Beatrice all grow so much as people over the course of the show. The ending leaves you wanting to know what happens next, but it's probably actually more effective to leave it to the viewers imagination as it allows people to create their own endings.

I do like that one of Wirt’s biggest character traits is delusional insecurity. A very widely relatable trait lol. He never believes that by being himself the girl he likes could ever like him back, yet we see him being liked by mostly everyone he meets. Especially the ladies. Beatrice, Lorna, Sara

You asked, back in the first video, when this is set. The answer: recording a casette tape for someone you like is a thing a kid has access to, so the mid-70s or later; but Halloween costumes are pretty much all homemade, so mid-80s or earlier; and there's a perfect half-moon on Halloween, which only happened once in that time range: Halloween 1980. And that leads to my personal most absurd headcanon: that silly, open-minded, musical, warmhearted, fearless, loving Greg grows up to fall in love with a Crystal Gem and have a child named Steven.
@jesusramirezromo203722 күн бұрын
Given Sarah doesn't have a tape player, it means Wirt is likley a hipster, Not that the show is in the 80's Also, Only Wirt and Greg have homemade costumes
