For stretch percentage, I always just take 10in and stretch it, because if it ends up at 14 its got 40% stretch! 17.5 and its got 75% stretch! I like to make it easy on my non-math brain :)

Tip for binding: measure the length of the seam you are binding, and cut your binding strip so that when stretched it is that length. I don’t even add seam allowance, it’s usually in the right ballpark if you do this. That way it accounts for the unique stretch % of the fabric and no math!

What's funny is opposite to Charlie, I made two compression dresses to wear around the house for my dysregulation lol. I made one out of power mesh and I didn't use a pattern. I just made two squares a little wider than wood fit around my hips and made it into a tube, and then pinched out the waist and torso. And then resew the seams and adjust again if needed. I chose power mesh because it comes in lots of colors and you don't have to hem it so I just trimmed the top and bottom with a rotary cutter and it's like a full body tube top except except it doesn't roll up or down. And I surged the edges and I wear it with the surged side out because it will cut into my skin lol. I suppose I should try a rolled hem on the next one for the side seams.

If you have problems with getting the tension right for the semi-elastic thread, you may need to hand-wind your bobbin and spool! I remembering finagling with the thread tension on my sewing machine because I wasn't happy with how rippley my seams were. I tried different needles and had no improvement. Fast forward over a year later I see a comment on instagram saying hand-winding it can help. Which makes so much sense. Adjusting the machine's tension might not be enough to compensate if the thread is already too tight on the bobbin and spool. I have yet to try it myself, but I thought it was worth mentioning incase other people in the comments were having a hard time getting the stretchy thread to work like I was.

I love them! My favourite one is the stripey one. Catherine from Catherine Sews made a knit dress and the way she was finishing the arm and neck hole was new to me. She used 6mm elastic and serged it on with a very slight stretch and then folded it under and sewed it in with a seam. It gives it a more stabile edge and helps with recovery. That might be another option for you if you decide to dislike the binding. Let me know if you would like me to send you the video she used it in. Btw, the 80% rule doesn't work for me either. Its anything between 80 and 95. Thanks for a great video,

Gutermann Maraflex is awesome to sew with. It isn't an obvious stretch when you pull the thread but when seams are under pressure they will give rather than snapping like a regular thread would. I have sewn t-shirts with it and it removes the need for a twin needle when doing hems on stretch fabric as you can just do two rows of regular straight stitching. You can just lengthen the stitch length and that should help with the puckering. Overalls turned out super cute.

I'm going through Perimenopause but I'm also neuro spicy so it's extra challenging. I bought really good Crayola washable markers and if I'm worried that it will not wash out correctly I'll test it when I wash the fabric the first time. Because I can't trust myself to remember where I did and didn't add seam allowance or where I needed to do a special maneuver so I just write it on the fabric itself. I just abbreviate. Sometimes I have to do it in chalk and I even have school Chalk for those fabrics that I can't use Tailor's chalk on. And if all else fails I will draw a diagram of it on my sewing table in pencil and make marks. I had to do that on some fleece.

Seraflex and miraflex do have about 65% stretch to them. Both bobbin and top thread need to be this tread and the tension only need to be as tight as necessary for both sewing and bobbin winding. It doesn't feel stretchy perhaps when pulled, but it really does make a difference. I refused to sew knits because I hated the bunching until I got some seraflex. I really feel it makes a difference. Especially with lingerie.
