There's an explanation to Light saying "of course I won't tell my father" and it's just the anime studio messing up. In the letter Light shows his date, in which he tells her about his plans to catch the bus jacker, in the second half he did write that his father is a police officer and he learned what to do in situations like these. Since Raye reads the letter and tells Light "don't do it", now it's established for both of them that Light is the son of a cop,. But while it is written in the letter, the dub never actually says it, neither in the Japanese or the English dub, despite it being a crucial information. If you watch the anime subbed, some subs translate the entire letter, or you can always go check the manga out.

Ray putting down Naomi repeatedly in their one conversation felt so out of place and sudden that it felt surreal and my only explanation to that would be to explain why the third smartest person in the first half of Death Note wasn't already helping the police. Something I noticed about the interaction between Light and Raye at 7:01 is how Light presents the event happening. He mentions someone and one second after he says he will kill them, they die. This leads Raye to assume that Kira's power is on demand, and the deaths occur with zero downtime, as opposed to how it actually works: 40s downtime and he has to write a name and know their face. So Raye thinks Kira's power is so uninteractible and broken that he can kill anyone the very instant he chooses to. In my mind, this is exactly why Raye doesn't run and scream "KIRA IS BEHIND ME" because he has a misconception over Kira's strengths, on top of being frozen and looking to save his and Naomi's life. Light set up the event happening this way, as he had to write that person's name ahead of time. That's why he says "He's here, right on time." Just beautiful display of skill, and he must've caught up to Raye and stopped him right next to the victim in question as well. Spacial Intelligence~
@overanalyzinganime2 жыл бұрын
that is not something I even remotely considered - Raye knows absolutely nothing about how everything works. and, from his perspective, Kira really did just murder that guy without doing... anything. for all Raye knows just staring at a person does the trick. I also like that you said - "spacial intelligence;" never heard that term before, but it's also something I hadn't considered. not only did he have to roll up behind Raye the way he did - but he also needed to make it so that he called out to him at exactly the right moment. The Notebook can't account for all of that, so that's just Light being his OP self.

I believe that, if it is possible, the death note makes the victim act in a way that gets him killed in a particular manner. It's like in episode 1 when light kills the biker, the biker just drives to a road where trucks usually drive through. If there is a truck nearby, the victim involuntarily will act in a way that looks like he died accidentally by this, and if this is impossible, the victim will die of a heart attack.

@josaraguevara9423 Жыл бұрын
I’ve always had the theory that the note will possess the target until their death. In cases like this where “accident” is written down, it could be as simple as a numbers game, statistically speaking, if you’ve failed to hijack a vehicle, chances are you’ll flee the scene, in that case, since the bus drives with the door to the side of traffic, it is highly likely that in fleeing you could trip and be run over by a vehicle. Another option could’ve been to simply trip and crack his head open. Choking on saliva, or a myriad of other accidental deaths. So the rest of the world isn’t affected , it’s just whatever’s most likely to happen AND to answer the previous question of what if the bus broke down or some other event happened to make it impossible for the busjacker to proceed with what the note had written on it, well, it’s simple. He’d just die uneventfully. Recall if something is impossible in the note from what is happening in reality then the person simply dies of a heart attack. No resistance or seemingly attempts at the intended sequence of events specified. So if let’s say the bus were full when Light and co. Got on, the driver wouldn’t have picked up the jacker bc there wouldn’t have been space for him so he would’ve just seen the bus pass by and then in forty seconds or so, dropped dead , potentially giving away Light as Kira with a heart attack in his immediate vicinity. That’s also probably why Light tells himself everything should be ok with his plan when counting the passengers in his head. Bc chances are, if there would’ve been enough things to restrict the jacking incident then this guy could’ve just died of a heart attack without getting Raye’s ID or keeping himself clear of suspicion

I kept thinking about the Death Note rule at 11:24 and how it can be circumvented: Imagine that the person with the name written in the Death Note is someone who, if he dies, compromises the lives of other people (like an airplane pilot or Miles Dyson in Terminator 2).
@overanalyzinganime Жыл бұрын
That’s such a good catch, honestly! Because you can’t say for certainty that one persons death won’t effect another persons because it’s all contingent on what that person is doing at the time. @@overanalyzinganime To be fair, in the case of a pilot I imagine they have backup pilots (I assume the co-pilot would take over, not sure if there'd be another co-pilot to get in the cockpit and help), though then I suppose the question goes to what if you killed all of the pilots/staff? I imagine a couple of possibilities, first is considering the supernatural elements of the Death Note it's possible there will always be someone on board who could pilot the plane (either a staff member or a passenger) who would allow it to land safely, or the plane would crash land but everyone whose name wasn't written down would survive (possibly uninjured depending on the exact rules). Alternatively, as another person said, those written down would die after the plane landed safely, or at least one person would survive until then. Though I do wonder to what extent that rule applies. Like, say someone's significant other is killed by the Death Note, and their death leads that person to kill themselves. Would that count as the DN killing multiple people with just one name?
@CompassRoseGaming9 ай бұрын
@@PunkZombie1300That would not count. Because the Death Note rules acknowledge that killing one will affect the lifespans of another. Which is the reason why she is known as an exellent agent now. This takes place in Death Note: Another Note.
@Shiruvi Жыл бұрын
i sometimes wonder that in a very early draft of this mini-arc, naomi was meant to be pregnant. that would explain how he treats her a little more - he's letting his own fear as a soon-to-be father and anxiety over his wife somehow being harmed by this too override his common sense with a need to prove himself as a protector, feeding into the overall motif of how even well-intended pride can destroy you. but then someone was like 'hey we probably shouldn't let light murder someone pregnant huh', which is fair, and it got scrapped. but the general tone never changed, so he looks like a sexist bore even within the context of a pretty sexist series.
@damonedrington345311 ай бұрын
I think the main reason they scraped it wasn’t even necessarily morality, but because using the death note on a pregnant woman opens up just… so many questions. Like the death note can’t kill anyone under 720 days, so the baby should survive as mom dies. But that would inevitably kill baby. BUT you also have the problem that you can’t have someone’s death cause another, otherwise said person dies of a heart attack. But that’s also exactly what would kill the baby and… it just gets weird.

While I do agree with you that the rules do state that you can’t have someone under control of the notebook willingly kill anyone else - that’s not “technically” what Light did. He just had Raye ‘write down a few names on a piece of paper.’ Why this was able to work? I can’t say. But it’s the only thing that makes sense because Light knew both when and where Raye Penber would show up. Not only that, but he also had a criminal lined up and ready to die right in front of Raye to illustrate that he was, in fact, Kira. Also, this is confirmed at the end of chapter 9 of the manga. Light missed a huge opportunity with ray pember. He could’ve just written him down after and controlled him for awhile. Caused ray to write down he was suspicious of someone else. Controlled him to not tell anybody anything. Etc.
@silly_goob Жыл бұрын
Yes! It would make life so much harder for L if Pember died after reporting that someone other than Light is suspicious. Like, in canon L deduced that even though Penber died a week after Light stopped being followed, Light could just wait a week before killing Ray, and it was so much easier for L to suspect only people from Yagami and Kimura households instead of all the police. But if Pember reported to L more than just "this Yagami boy isn't Kira" it would just mess up the investigation more. Penber could write that he remembered one of his previous suspects doing something shady, he could even write a theory that L himself may be Kira! And then, when Pember's death starts to be investigated and the police gets involved, they can get even more suspicious of L and even demand for him to be under surveillance. Though, how useful Pember can be under the influence of Death Note is debatable as he can just die on a spot if he can't come up with a thought that Light wants him to think.

Light could have optimized the bus jacker's death and the agent's deaths. With the bus Jacker have him slowly bleed and get saved by an ambulance which reduces suspicion, have him survive in a coma, then have him die from medical complications a few weeks later. With the agents, have them all die at random dates and times over the next week or so (and make it so they only open and respond to the email just before death) to make it seem like Kira was finding them 1 by 1 which would also help cover his trail, heck even toss on some of the cops investigating Kira (and one or two cops who quit the kira investigation) to send a message and disrupt their investigation for a while.
@tornboi5868 Жыл бұрын
I think the reason that the pages of the Death Note were covered was not to prevent Ray from seeing Ryuk (who wasn't on the train), but so that Ray couldn't see the conditions of death that Light wrote, therefore giving him a more proper understanding of how Kira kills.
@JennyShull3 ай бұрын
To Light Since Ray died it probably did not matter that Ray found out how Kira killed. Just like it did not matter to Light that Ray saw him as the doors closed on Rays death. I’m surprised no one noticed Light looking at Ray as he died.
@stanleyharno4534 Жыл бұрын
Honestly Ray is one of the biggest plot holes in Death note. The fact that an FBI agent entrusted with spying on Kira suspect by L himself wouldn't report the bus incident to anyone is not very believeable but okay, let's say it's possible. However Light's entire brilliant keikaku falls apart if this is not the case and he absolutely should not assume it is.

Hold on, L should have immediately picked up on the fact that the guy sweeping the floor had a heart attack. Two people having a heart attack (Ray and the sweeper) in the same location would have been incredibly suspicious when you know that’s Kira’s M.O. So the fact Ray Pember was a person of interest and that the people he was investigating should be examined should have been obvious from the start.

Raye kinda digs his own grave in the beginning. Light broadly mentions that he is holding Raye's family hostage. That is such a vague threat, everyone has a family. Light says he has been investigating Raye. This makes Raye think he's implying about Naomi and the reason he decided to work on the case in Japan (for their marriage). So he slips up and says "How do you know about her?" and this gives the rest of Light's claims substance, despite being untruthful.

If Light wrote that ray penber will comply to anything light says there is no risk, but we see some hesitation and inner monologue like "i know this voice", its not all robotic and dead like with his girlfriend. And the fact that light had to prove that he is kira by killing that guy would make no sense if he wrote that ray would comply to anything. I think it's interesting how you and others in the comments don't get Raye and Naomi's situation. She isn't an agent anymore, this was her own decision. She wants to start a family with Raye and the only way to do it is if she's not constantly stressed by the work of an FBI agent. If she wanna leave her old life so badly, not allowing her to get involved in any way is the best decision for her but for them as a couple in general. You literally show the scene in which he says, that as soon as they get kids and become a real family, she won't have time for this stuff anyway. It's mad obvious that he forces all the responsibility on himself to look out for her. Most retired agents have PTSD or some form of anxiety disorder. If your partner tries to forget all of that shit, would you really involve her in a killer case? Probably not unless you're really desperate and that's not the case here. Raye's investigation was finished and the conclusion was that Light is likely innocent so for Raye, the situation is pretty much done. He did his job and there was not a single reason to burden her with something that isn't even his job anymore.

Isn't there a rule against using the Note to control someone in a way that kills others? You can't write "on blah blah day at blah blah pm bob shoots his wife and then himself". Otherwise so many other situations in the series would break. No this episode is even more stupid imo, there has to be surveillance cameras in the area where Light confronts Raye, and at least one of them must have captured Light or at least Raye around the time Light walks up behind him, Light killed a random person there and L and the police knew that Raye was there because that's where he walked on to the train and where he got the brief, so to check the footage around this random person dying of a random heart attack, and looking for Raye in the area, would be very logical, and then they should have been able to get a clue on Kira, but regardless, killing Raye in the first place is just dumb, Light had clearly demonstrated he could continue doing his thing while under surveillance without raising suspicion, and if he just continued to do that, raye would eventually move on to another suspect and he would be almost completely cleared of suspicion
@iTz_GSWAG Жыл бұрын
I’m sure Light didn’t want several fbi agents in his vicinity, killing raye wasn’t stupid at all. And even if they had conveniently checked up on raye for whatever reason it doesn’t give solid proof of light being kira. The death of that random and light boarding the subway happened in the span of 10 minutes, it’s not enough time to put two and two together. I don’t even think L would have gotten informed about that death quickly because that man was not a criminal. They were primarily focused of the number of inmates death in prison
@cordenhuman Жыл бұрын
@@iTz_GSWAG if you have 10 fbi agents looking for you and they all suddenly die, how do you think fbi and police are going to respond, the logical response is OBVIOUSLY to realize that Kira is an enourmous threat and to put 100x as many resources into finding him, the only way for Kira to ever survive would be to go as lowkey as possible and hide all his crimes and make them all seem like accidents/unrelated to him and raise as little supsicion as possible, KILLING THOSE FBI AGENTS WAS OBVIOUSLY STUPID AF

The conversation between Raye and Naomi always made sense to me. They love each other and want to have a family. However, they are also both career people who love their job, and so they had the typical conversation of, "okay, so how do we do this?" which resulted in the agreement that Raye keeps working and Naomi drops out of the FBI and takes care of the kids. Of course, Naomi is conflicted about this, because she can't have her cake and eat it too. There are two things she wants and she can't have both. So in order to transition her to her new life, they agreed that she wouldn't indulge herself in FBI work. That is why Raye stops her, because he sees it as her struggling to let go of her work, and that having her help him would just make things harder. Something she, again, presumably agrees on in principle, but understandably finds hard in practice.

Honestly, you are thinking far too into how accidental deaths work it actually makes me groan. Don't get me wrong, a lot of things in this show needed some explanation and like you've stated before a lot of it straight up makes no sense due to writer mistake. That being said, we already know the Death Note can influence people, and we know that there are certain parameters it cannot defy. So it does what it must in the most efficient way with as much preparation as it needs, including probably having precognition. It's a godlike force after all and probably doesn't view fate and time the same way we do. But trying to figure out the specifics as it applies to all cases makes no sense. It doesn't JUST influence people, but obviously the environment as well.
