I have the very unpopular opinion that I like it less the more I think about it. Earlier parts of the show acknowledged that obviously Aang at 40 would act very different from Aang at 12. This feels too much like he's trying to be 12 again to me. Thinking on it now, I feel they could've captured the best of both worlds if they tweaked it so Aang wasn't doing the big, goofy grin but maybe his more reserved self with just a hint of his smile being about to break into something sillier, as if the nostalgia is hitting him by surprise.

2:48 hey...amputee here 🦿... you're spot on, going through something traumatic and the recovery afterwards everyone focuses on the physical aspect but neglects the heavy mental and emotional toll it may take. This is a great representation from the show that in hindsight I really love to see.

@Underrated_History18633 күн бұрын
Fellow amputee as well. And I totally agree with above. I’m a below the knee amputee and mentally it is just brutal to realize a huge part of you is gone. I had to deal with several heart surgeries back to back and it ended with a thrown clot that took out my right foot. Don’t get me wrong. Physically? It was rough. But I was 25 and in solid shape. So my recovery was very fast. I ended up walking out of rehab after only a month. But mentally? I was destroyed for years. And if anything? My fast physical recovery hindered my mental recovery. So many people telling me time and time again how awesome I am for my fast recovery and assuming that means I’m “over it”. And led to a lot of people not understanding that I was still broken. I was fixed! I was hiking mountains just a year after! Why am I still upset? The mental struggle was beyond insane and something that tends to go un mentioned in media when the hero suffers a “bad injury”. I mean look at hiccup in HTTYD. Sure it’s cool to see an amputee on screen as a hero. But he suuuuure gets over that super quick mentally. Seeing a hero struggling with the mental horrors of a horrible injury? It’s refreshing.
@justjamie50063 күн бұрын
@@Underrated_History1863tbf the hiccup comparison isn’t fair for numerous reasons, one hiccup is still a happy go lucky child who is resilient and probably wouldn’t know to deal with the struggle, + we don’t get soon see his recovery porcesss on screen, and 3. He is a Viking it is the social norm in that society to have a missing limb it is not unusual in any way shape or form to be missing a limb. I know I haven’t worded this very well as my English is bad but hopefully you can get the jists
@sebaschan-uwu3 күн бұрын
@justjamie5006 now that you mention it, you're right. In HTTYD it's normal for warriors to have missing limbs, so it's almost like a rite of passage that hiccup loses a leg when doing the most heroic act in the film.

I'm not an amputee, but I broke femur over 4 months ago. It was definitely a rough time learning how to walk again and going through all the physical therapy and exercises to slowly work my leg back to normal. Even now, I'm still not back to 100%. It definitely would've been an even rougher time if I didn't have my friends and family helping support me through the whole time. It helped so much that I didn't even really have many mental struggles about my break and surgery, just the mostly the physical ones. Going through something like this myself has definitely given me a new respect and appreciation for those who have gone through similar situations.

13:55 A lot of avatars met their companions in the next life, all the way back to Kuruk. The main 3 Kuruk Companions met Kyoshi. One of Kyoshi’s companions named Disha met Roku, one of Roku’s companions named Gyatso named Aang. And Toph, Zuko, Iroh, and Katara met Korra.
@L1K34PR03 күн бұрын
12:00 I feel like Korra not being drawn to the swamp ties really well with her cut contact to the avatar spirit. Her spiritual energy is severely damaged, only make sense that a master with such spiritual potential like Aang would be drawn to the swamp at a time of need and Korra meanwhile can't even sense it was nearby and could only tell where she was when she saw it with her own eyes. The spirit leading her there would be the same logic as Aang being led by Avatar Roku's dragon spirit to the fire temple, there was no time back then for Aang to stumble upon it and he needed a helping hand. Here, Korra needed a helping hand for similar reasons, as it's been shown before how spirits can see the tide shift in nature and assist the Avatar in times of need. Now with Kuvira rapidly rising to become a [H E W H O S H A L L N O T B E N A M E D], I think it makes sense for the spirit to sense the coming crisis and want to push things along
@FalllllКүн бұрын
I kind of like that the spirit has something of its own, smaller Iroh moment where it follows her anyway and ends up helping out. Maybe not as cathartic as Korra coming to the realization she can accept help on her own, but sometimes good friends help you when you don't really want it anyway and you end up better off for it.

As someone with fairly debilitating chronic illness... this one hits pretty hard. The baseline physical challenges, the isolation from friends, the sudden anger you don't realize has been building up, feeling useless and making comparisons to your former self, learning to ask for help, and especially finding purpose in the struggle... It doesn't get across the time and tedium of healing or living with a condition, but it's an action cartoon with a pace to keep. Overall, very tastefully handled. Between Asami being able to go comfort Korra at the drop of a hat and Elon Musk being able to be CEO of five companies simultaneously and still have time to play video games badly and Tweet constantly, it’s pretty clear that “running a company” is nowhere near as hard a job as the folks “running” them want you to believe.
@drivingbritt96172 күн бұрын
When it comes to CEOs at least, the main thing is being able to make those five or six key decisions a year that keep your company afloat, the rest you tend to delegate into other people's hands. As a result, CEOs often have a lot of free time, and when they're not making those key decisions, they act as distant observers and potentially intermediators within the executive caste of the company. Bear in mind, this is a gross generalization, as different companies manage and structure themselves differently, but it helps illustrate the point.

In the original series, we saw that the NWT uses double hulled canoes and outrigger canoes like the Polynesians, while the SWT uses Viking style langskips. Korra bought a haunted Nintendo cartridge and is now being haunted by Korra.exe And I guess Raava moved out with Korra's liver

It would be funny as fuck if this was all just Vaatu fucking with her and Raava agreeing as she thinks that Korra is being a punk.

Did Anybody else think Korra was in another part of the United Republic for part of her journey? I figured it was bigger than just the city and that Korra wouldn't spend ALL her time in the Earth Kingdom considering the state it was in

I think Toph is the best represented og avatar gaang in Korra
@sl3kii8753 күн бұрын
For sure zuko and katara were represented well but toph is everything you’d imagine toph to be like as an old woman
@newhybrid1013 күн бұрын
The problem is in Korra the older masters are far past their prime(which we haven't really seen yet btw,as that was between ATLA and LoK) But in ATLA the older masters are shown to be as powerful as ever(only exception being Azulon in flashbacks who was stated to have lost his old power)
@Bruno-jj2oiКүн бұрын
I feel like everyone from the OG Team Avatar were good represented (Aang was a bit controversial but nothing that would kill his character tbh), mainly because they're really only used when it's needed on the plot

1:07 Lmao, Assami's company only exists when the plot demands. Assami is basically a walking Plot-Device herself, sad but true 😅 4:45 Korra would've 100% kept the portals closed if the Spirits were portrayed in any way like they were in ATLA or anything in South East Asian myths. But lucky for her, they're basically just a bunch of Ghost-Type Pokémon sprites
@craigpeoples98833 күн бұрын
Hey saying that is an insult...to ghost type Pokemon
@samuelclayhills32983 күн бұрын
Hell Korra the show made the spirits even more unlikeable compared to the unknowable eldrich shit og was about. Asami doomed to be the gf of her 2 time cucker. Someone writing must have seeious beef with her. And then having the gall to say that it felt right and wasen't pandering truly vile to do such a thing.
@Limrasson3 күн бұрын
@@samuelclayhills3298 AtLA spirits felt like spirits. That made them cool and interesting. Korra Spirits feel like dudes and pokémon. That makes them unlikeable.
@jasonraystewart2 күн бұрын
there are all kind of spirits. Not all them supposed to be scary. Just remember in season 2 when Korra first time entered to spirit world there were spirits like dementors or remember Hundun. He's pretty scary but even after defeating him portals are still open.
@thalmoragent93442 күн бұрын
@jasonraystewart Yes there's all kinds of spirits. Lucky for Korra, none of them have had Heibie or Wan Shi Tong levels of dark tendencies, otherwise she'd have been in real trouble... just saying, the spirits were all just... Ghost-Type Pokémon with little flair other than the occasional swap in Color Pallette. That's all they ever were. No explanation what they did, where they belonged, what they're for, what they're associated with, nothing.

I love when injuries are treated properly. You don't get up immediately, at least it takes a few days for the ache to subside but for more serious ones its debilitating and takes a lot of both mental and physical struggle. It really hammers home the consequences of them and shows how the strong aren't infallible. Not like in the previous episodes where Korra would lose at the top of her game but how losing like this actually has consequences.

Interesting idea: When she's fighting the avatar state version, a lot of the attacked that hit her coulda been her bending and just hitting herself lol

Korra's journey of recovery this season has been hard for me to watch ever since I lost my dad. In his prime, he was headstrong, extroverted, independent, and a real "get stuff done" kind of man. And it absolutely crushed me witnessing his decline due to illness and age. He was often angry at himself due to needing help even with the simplest things, and angry at others for making him feel so feeble and useless. So yeah, the portrayal of these things in the show is the real deal.

12:10 my canon is because the spirit portals are open then spirits can interact with humans more directly, with bangs case the doors were closed so the spirits had to direct him in a more subtle way (I also like the idea of spirits messing with hims for personal reasons so idk maybe the spirit is liked to the avatar or rava)

A spirit sensing hallucinations seems like a cool concept, and Korra needing the spirit to guide her makes sense in that she is spiritually and physically broken, so the spirit mojo of the Swamp wouldn't connect as it did with Aang so she needed more guidance.
@SnakeMan4483 күн бұрын
There's a trope where the protagonist is trying to find rest in someplace unwelcoming, like a public bathroom or dingy new apartment, and then someone comes banging on the door just so they feel very unsafe. Korra similarly can't get a few minutes just to heal her bruises before someone comes banging, desperate for a dump.
