the best art-block cure (for me at least) is watching other people's streams, and especially your streams Dave have helped me very much with this, I'm pretty sure other people have been helped from this as well, thanks 🤘🤘

As much as I loved how nice the editing in the last video was, these sit down and talk videos are my favorite over all. The white canvas can be so daunting- I find watching your streams, browsing pinterest and artstation help me a lot. But I think it would smart to get outside alone and let my mind wander like you said in this video. Thanks for putting out such good content!

Excellent advice! I am a pro artist as well and constantly working, and when I’m not on a project I am trying to address my weaknesses and make breakthroughs with my art process and fundamentals. You spoke of few great examples to get over “artist block” and the word that I’m always thinking about is balance. My mental and physical health is usually the doorway to getting in the flow and directly linking my visualization to my work. Thanks for your transparency about this very important topic. Looking forward to all your work and video content on this page. You’re awesome!

The part where u said that at sometime you can not even draw a face anymore for some reason was so relatable. Thought I was the only one. I draw faces all the time, but sometimes all of sudden I just don't remember the structure and placements and it keeps looking off.

cheers Dave. You are a big inspiration for me. If I didnt get so distracted with streams I'd watch you every time hahaha "keep working every day" is a lot like the War of Art book I read one day. It really changed how I looked at my daily works and it greatly helped with my art blocks. I still have them from time to time, but I found some systems to help me cope with and def. the "sit and do" at least the minimum I needed helps a ton.

One of my main issues is trying to start a new piece after finishing one. Going from a finished piece to basically restarting always messes with me. Makes it hard for me to get my anatomy right or motivated to even work on it. Especially when I have an idea in mind, but no matter how many times I try to sketch it. It's just not coming out how I'm picturing it. Which is the art rut I'm in right now. Also your draw with Dave is my favorite series of yours.

Lots of useful advice here, as always ;) As someone interested in breaking into the video game industry as a concept artist and animator, it's been phenomenal to watch your tutorials where you produce beautiful splash art and "promotional" style pieces. But I'd also be interested to see your process for "thumb nailing" through to refining a concept for a character/creature/environment before it gets finalized. Would it be possible for us to see an example of the design and art process you went through for "Crowfall"? Perhaps with some community interaction where we collectively come up with a "design brief" and watch your walk through of the process - That would be helpful! Especially because at this point I get the idea that polished, promotional style pieces take a moderate amount of patience and a lot of prior work before starting, and I'd like to get a better idea of how fast you need to be with the conception/thumb-nailing stage, and the subsequent steps leading up to that final splash art.

Hey Dave, big fan here ! I was wondering, in the future when you're doing tutorials or some sketch video for youtube, if you could put a history window somewhere, it helps to see all the tools you use and the whole process while you're working, only if it doesn't bother you or it clogs up your screen 😁

I'm so dumb, I took on more work than I can do and because I'm so burnt out I've had to subcontract some of it out. It didn't even occur to me that I was working too much until I told another creator my problem. Guess I learnt my lesson. I always like to work my butt off and do as much as possible but there is a point where the work nose dives and you start to hate your life.

@cobyroberts96784 жыл бұрын
By drawing what do you mean? If the body i would recommend studying anatomy about it. You dont have to know everything about it but enough to get by. Maybe you could even modify it. What else? Hmm if you have trouble with lighting and shadows. There are references that show how light behaves when shined from different angles. I don't know if this answered your question but if this helps though.
Sorry for asking, but can I have permission to convert your brushes to the free art program Krita and then share them? 🙏 This will really help a lot of Krita users who can't afford or doesn't want to use photoshop! Your brushes are really cool!

I have a suggestion for your next drawing that is both different and potentially challenging. Why don't you make a drawing of Jesus Christ? Not like the catholic paintings with the glowy head and the renaissance hand gestures, but in the way you would like to be painted if someone painted you. It would be very interesting and it would be unique to your channel.

I am only stopped by my inability to make good art. I can make art, but it’s shit. I’ve never more than 100 followers on any site because anyone unfortunate enough to come across my work will realize that it’s garbage and across away as fast as they can. Maybe they’ll appreciate my work when I’m dead. Not like it matters. I’ll never be able to make anything anyone would want to pay me for.

Pushing yourself to work is not being creative, and probably hurts you as an artist. You should be creating art because you want to, not to satisfy the demands of others. Try to keep in mind that you're creating art, not making hamburgers.
