Personally I don't understand the whole "make videos short" like I get some people have hard time paying attention over a long period of time.. but my personal opinion I like the longer videos. As long as what you are showing or talking about, tutorial or not... I think the time is worth it. I'd rather have a tutorial that is a hour long as long as I learn something. Or I really get to see how the artist finishes something at every step. Personally I'd like to see a video about how some who does freelance like what their day to day, and I mean start to finish on that business. Appreciate and love the video Dave! i don't think it's so much that people have a problem with longer videos it's more that some videos will take FOREVER to get to what the actual video is about. I have a perfect example of this, i forgot how to do clipping masks so i looked up a video on it and there were a ton of like 10-15 min videos on it with like 5 minute intros talking about nothing and then i found a 49 second video that showed me exactly what i was looking for and nothing more than that. For me, what helps me stay creative when I’m in a rut, or a mood, whatever you would like to call it, I google random things. Last time was mushrooms, not the psychedelic kind, just normal mushrooms. I ended up fascinated by “ink caps,” or “ inky caps,” depending on which part of the region/globe you’re in. So I ended drawing those and jotting down various things about them as I went along. That took up about 6 hours of research and drawing. It was kind of fun, and I even ended up buying a book about various other mushrooms in my part of the hemisphere. So, I just look up different things til something interests me.

My creative process has been really different during these current times. I used to be much more methodical, almost obsessively so, when it came down to sketching my pieces out, doing research, etc. I spent more time in my sketchbook than I did on canvas/paper, and it showed because I was drawing my ideas while being fearful I wouldn't be able to pull them off. My sketchbook kind of became my safe space. Now, I've been much more spontaneous, I have a more "just go for it" attitude as far as jumping right into an idea and letting it transform over the course of creating it. It feels a lot better, and I feel better creating more "finished" ideas instead of treating each painting like a research project, haha.

Hey Dave! I just came across your channel. Great piece, I really enjoyed watching the process and listening to your talk. I found myself in a similar mindset when the quarantine was introduced. It was hard for me to get into my creative space especially that just a month before I've opened my long waited tattoo shop and this situation definitely wasn't a thing that I needed for a head start. It took me almost three weeks to get out of bed and switch to tea instead of well... other stuff and get creative again. These last couple of weeks was much much better. I pushed myself to learn new things not necessarily related to what I do in my day to day job, lift my skills to another level and research areas in art that I haven't been in since art school or even ever before. I even dusted off almost two years worth of dust of my youtube channel. Watching videos like yours really helps to stay creative, learn and it's good to hear that people on a much higher level than myself are still struggling sometimes with the same problems. And I mean it in a most positive way- don't blame ourselves, it is what it is. These periods of non-creativity just appear out of nowhere sometimes and we all grow up to find our ways out of them. Thank you for sharing your art and most importantly your thoughts. This gave me a really nice start to this day.
