An excerpt from SEALFit’s “Staying in the Fight” webinar, Mark Divine explains what it takes to overcome laziness using the Conscious Competence Learning Model.
-----
The Conscious Competence Learning Model also known as the Four Stages of Learning was a theory developed by Gordon Training International. Mark Divine explains how you can overcome laziness and develop a new habit or behavior by using this model.
Unconscious Incompetence
Unconscious incompetence starts off where you have little to no knowledge of a particular skill, habit or behavior, where you may not even realize how little to no knowledge you have. In this stage, you may reject the idea that you are incompetent in a particular skill or task. You will reject the idea of even attempting the task. In this video, Mark Divine gives the example of SEALFit training.
Conscious Incompetence
You move into Conscious Incompetence when you realize your lack of skill or knowledge about a particular task or behavior. From here, you begin taking baby steps towards the task or behavior. For example, a friend or relative may have signed you up for SEALFit training, Kokoro Camp, Basic Leadership Academy, or even something as basic as a gym membership or fitness class. You have no idea what you have signed up for and you reluctantly agree to attend. As you begin the training, event or class, you are suddenly deeply aware of your incompetence at the activity whether physically or mentally. You are now Conscious about your Incompetence. You have now taken a step forward.
Conscious Competence
As you migrate from Conscious Incompetence to Conscious Competence you begin to realize what you lack, what there is to learn, and what you can become through your SEALFit training, fitness class, or Leadership Academy. Now that you are aware, you dedicate time and mental energy towards classes and training to build up your body and mind. You’re developing confidence, courage, and this drives you out of laziness and spirals into motivation and further into success. You want more and more as you see the results. You are determined and committed to attending training and classes. Set a goal and go for the goal. You must make a commitment.
Unconscious Competence
Once you’ve hit your goal, whether it is being able to complete Kokoro camp, completing a year of fitness classes, losing weight, lifting, whatever it may be. Your skill becomes second nature. You have moved into the realm of Unconscious Competence. You can do it again and again. You can even lead others.
Never be lazy again. Remember, the 3 pillars: Training, Eating, and Sleeping. Do them well and you will never be lazy for the rest of your life.

You've actually worn out the body's capacity to produce minerals to keep the brain going. Try Dave Aspery's bullet proof coffee or my version: "Poor man's bullet proof coffee". Put the following in a container with a lid : (1) 1/2 cup hot organic coffee w/ caffeine (do not use freeze dried or coffee process with chemicals) (2) 2-tablespoon Kerry Gold butter (it's from grass fed cows in Ireland - can be found at a large super market or organic store) (3) Vitamins for your brain: 2 capsules 5-HTP, Himalayan's- Mind Care & Stress Care, Ginseng, N-A-C (N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine & B-100) (4)Crush the vitamins to a powder, put in the container with the coffee & butter. Shake until mix and drink the whole thing. It doesn't taste all that great, but you'll notice in about 1/2 hr you'll start to feel like your brain is being rebooted. Your energy level will be up. The caffeine carries the fat & vitamins to the brain, so you're alert. I do this everyday. Google Dave Aspery also, try some of the breathing exercise on KZbin to get more oxygen to the cells in your body.

Can't even get to unconscious incompetence these days - this video is excellent once you realize you want something but I can't get to that point. I've done a lot in my life and have no unfinished goals and few regrets. Just no longer motivated by basically any goal. Im single and an entrepreneur but uninterested in this whole American achieve+win!!! thing. Anyone else? I'm wondering where my mojo went.

Have you heard of Erickson life stages? You said that youre a single entrepreneur with no unfinished goals and few regrets, but now you dont feel motivated by the "American achieve+win!!! thing".. Based on the Erickson model, it would make sense that youve reached the point in life where you need to have connection and intimacy more than achievement, and where personal meaning will be more a matter of providing meaningful service to others, rather than succeeding primarily for your own benefit. People nearing the ends of their lives often look backwards to find vindication not just in what they achieved for themselves, but also in what ways they were important/significant in the lives of others.

Some people are so far away from a gym, they literally can’t do this. Or they have issues making it do they can’t do typical CrossFit and must do other types of exercise like Pilates, etc. So it’s all relative, some people aren’t lazy but lack opportunity. But yes, absolutely - they can take on extra work to get the special training they need like physical therapy, Pilates etc and stop seeing themselves in a hopeless situation.

What is your advice about someone like myself where I am super lazy , but It's through my dissociation between self's, you have no idea how much I want to better myself and I do well yet I keep dissociating, then the anxiety surrounding my insomnia takes place which is then replaced by ptsd flashbacks... I'm at that point brother, where I'm literally at the end of my rope and sanity.. wtf do I do, wtf would you do 💯
