🌟 In this enlightening video, we reconvene with Saju Cherian, the esteemed voice of migrant nurses, as he tackles the challenges faced by a segment of nurses, particularly those from India, during their adaptation and competency assessment programs in New Zealand. Saju Cherian, a dedicated advocate for migrant communities and a registered nurse himself, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the discussion.
One critical aspect discussed is the significance of communication in nursing. Effective communication is paramount in delivering quality patient care, ensuring patient safety, and fostering positive relationships with colleagues and healthcare teams. Therefore, mastering the colloquial language is essential not only for passing the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) but also for providing competent and compassionate nursing care in New Zealand's healthcare settings.
The video delves into various scenarios where nurses may struggle due to language barriers during their OSCE assessments. It emphasizes the importance of learning and adapting to the local language and communication styles to effectively interact with patients, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals.
Moreover, Saju Cherian's efforts through The Outspoken Malayali underscore a broader commitment to upholding the standards of nursing in New Zealand. By addressing these challenges head-on and fostering open dialogue, Saju Cherian and The Outspoken Malayali aim to empower migrant nurses to navigate the adaptation process successfully and thrive in their nursing careers in New Zealand. This video serves as a beacon of guidance and support for Malayali nurses seeking to embark on their professional journey in a new country.
Who is Saju Cherian?
Saju Cherian, a New Zealand citizen of Indian origin hailing from Kerala, has been a dedicated resident of New Zealand for over 15 years. As a registered nurse and Associate Charge Nurse for Health New Zealand, Saju brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his roles. However, it is his tireless advocacy for the migrant and nursing communities that truly sets him apart.
Saju serves as a voice for migrant nurses, leveraging his positions on the NZNO board of directors, as a Justice of Peace, and as an Executive Board member of the Kerala Association of Palmerston North (KAPN) to champion their rights and well-being. His altruistic nature is evident in his willingness to support and guide nurses and students, especially those who have faced challenges in their academic or professional journeys.
Despite his numerous accolades and roles, Saju's true distinction lies in his genuine altruism and unwavering commitment to serving others as a fundamental act of humanity. He seeks no recognition or reward for his efforts, finding fulfillment solely in making a positive difference in the lives of those around him.
In Saju Cherian, we find a beacon of hope, a champion of justice, and a true embodiment of compassion. His legacy of service will continue to inspire and uplift generations to come, leaving an indelible mark on the fabric of our society.
