I searched and searched for information about what I’ve been feeling. We are a month and half into a placement of two little people. It’s a placement I was looking very forward to so what I have been feeling has made next to no sense! So glad I found this. Thank you for being honest and vulnerable for us.

Hey, thanks for doing these videos on adoption blues and overcoming them. We've adopted twice and I got depression after the first one. I had no idea that adoption Postpartum depression could be a thing. But it seems way under recognized and talked about as a real thing.

I've been watching your channel since we started our adoption journey. We are in the process of adopting a 14yo girl and have to foster for 6 months before officially adopting here in in TX. I remembered seeing this before and didn't watch it then, but I searched for it today because I am feeling all of this. Thank you for being so open and saying everything I'm feeling. Especially the hopelessness and the guilt. Your videos are always great. This one helped me a lot. Thank you!

I’m so glad that it helped you! ❤️ I experienced this with both of our adoptions, and I have friends who have gone through this as well. It does get better, I promise!

Thank you for sharing, I definitely have some of the post adoption blues that you mentioned. I like the idea of going on a date with my husband and i will try to talk to my friends more, that have adopted too. I’m stubborn like you and dont want others to know I’m struggling a bit, even when I know they will be supportive. Thank you for your encouragement 🤗

haha! Yeah, starting out with an almost 2 year old was kinda rough...missed all of the cuddly baby times and went straight into the 2 year old phase! But we love her ;) Congrats on your decision to adopt! It's such a beautiful journey :)

Thank you for your candor and for speaking about things people usually don't. We are in the process of adoption our boy (he's 3.5) and we love him but it has been challenging and I have been feeling some of the things you talk about in this video and the last. The guilt is real! Just to know that I am not the only one feeling this way gives me hope! Also, I need to be better about asking for help because I do have the support. Thanks again, it really was a relief to hear you!

I will also say that since this video (in our second adoption) I have done therapy and it has been very helpful talking through these feelings! I really do think they are common for so many people, but having an outlet to talk is super nice!

Thank you once again for this video. ❤️ On your previous video I mentioned that I had a lot of the symptoms so now I know I have come to the conclusion that I am depressed. 😓 We are only fostering at time but the kids may be foster to adopt. However, don’t think I will be adopting because of the depression that I am experiencing now. Does the depression just magically disappear?

I won't say it magically disappears, but I can tell you that for me it was just a season. I think the biggest things that helped me were letting time pass, setting healthy boundaries, being less hard on myself, and talking about it. You don't always realize how the stress the kids feel in a new placement runs off on you and leaves you feeling exhausted. It's normal, I promise! ❤ Don't write off the idea of adoption yet...this feeling will likely pass. For me it was about 6 months or so, with peaks and valleys. Saying a prayer for you now!

Thank you so much for sharing this. Is your daughter still rejecting you or has that started to change? I’m hoping to have my license to foster in a few more weeks. I will be a single mother so it’s a little intimidating.

I'm very happy to say that we turned a major corner recently...she is now telling me she loves me and giving kisses, hugs freely 😊 it has been a long journey but SO worth it. You should check out the channel Singly Loving! She's a single foster mom KZbinr who actually goes to the same church as I do! She's been doing it for several years and has good perspective.

@@adoptinformed I'm so glad to hear things are improving, I'm sure they'll get better and better from here on out. And thank you, I'll be checking out that channel. It's been helpful to see a lot more single ladies doing this than I realized.

Hi Samantha - I’m also waiting for approval of my foster license. Also single. Full time job. Limited family support on the ground. So is this daunting for us to contemplate? Absolutely!

@@michellethomas8328 I’ve since had my first placement since I made that comment. It’s the hardest and most beautiful thing I’ve ever done l have learned a lot and I now know my limits. I will never take an infant again. It’s just too much. But I wouldn’t take back the experience for anything. Good luck on your journey.

@@SamanthaStew Appreciate your update. Your first placement was an infant? And it was too much solo? I am signed up for infant - 5 yrs. What age would you feel best to handle going forward?
