As part of our Dyslexia & Me campaign highlighting the link between dyslexia and mental health, we chat to Dr Neil Alexander Passe about the lasting effect that school trauma has on a person’s mental health throughout their entire life.
Debunking the myth that dyslexia isn’t just about reading and writing but also about how we need tailored teaching techniques to connect with children so that they feel empowered and part of the community. This includes a more visual approach to learning, making it relevant and praising effort not just achievement.
Dr Neil shares his inspirational story of struggling with his dyslexia at school to then retraining as a teacher to fix a broken system to help SEN children and how this trauma he experienced at school has led to success through resilience and knowing that it is okay to fail.
