I have this in my 10 foot trellis. I planted it three years ago and it’s up the side and over the top. It’s thick and full of flowers. My house and yard smell amazing and the pollinators love it.

I’ve had this in my back patio completely covering my 10ft x 50ft gate for 14 years now. The smell is amazing and brings a lot humming birds when the flowers bloom. I live in the desert here in Vegas and it’s done well. It’s gotten really dense and now just trimming it. Highly recommend.

Thanks for sharing this. It is interesting to hear how a hedgerow plant that in nature grows in the rainy, cool environment of the British Isles is doing so well in the desert. The fragrance is very special and a lovely experience. Unfortunately, some people miss out because they are wrongly associate this type with the invasive Japanese Honeysuckle, your comment helps to clarify the important differences, so thank you for that.

Its amazing how smells (especially pleasing ones) lodge in our memory for so many years, and how they will vividly take us back by association (even after many decades)! Which is why is is good for us to allow small children to experience those seasonal fragrances too. Witch Hazel, Primroses, Korean Spice Viburnum, Lily of the Valley, Mock Orange (Philadelphus), Peonies, Roses, Sweet Autumn Clematis are just a few of the lovely things that will register in their memory. This is a simple, but long lasting, fun thing for teachers, parents and grandparents to do with little ones. We are glad to hear you got to experience this precious phenomenon too. If you haven't already, might I suggest that you follow our KZbin channel now so that our new videos will popup in your feed as we add them. And if you click the like button on this particular video it will help other KZbinrs find it in the future. Thank you again for your kind comment!.

That's great to hear and thank you for contributing this 👍. Fragrance in our gardens (and around our homes) is often over looked and under appreciated, and if you are able to position this somewhere "up wind" so that the wafting scent is carried on gentle breezes then it truly is (as you've discovered) a lovely, lovely experience and one that we hope more people get to know about👌😉. So, thanks again for mentioning this. If you get a chance, you might like to scroll (or search) some more through this channel because there's several other divinely fragrant plants that our partnering "Grown By Overdevest" garden centers are stocking too: grownbyoverdevest.com/retail-locator/ 👏✔ 😁

I just planted this honeysuckle in my yard. The branches were all coiled up and tangled together from being in the pot and having a small trellis. Can I cut it back to the ground in the Spring so it can start fresh next season? Or is it better to leave some of the branches above ground? Thank you.
@OverdevestNurseries2 жыл бұрын
There's a lot to be said for a well shaped, well grown plant. So once it gets established you could consider sorting out the tangled shoots by trimming a few of them back to 4-6" or so, to allow your plant to regrow fresh new growt from the base. Then if some of the remaining shoots are also tangled you could repeat the process the following spring until eventually you will have a well shaped healthy vine.

I want to plant them in a large container, but I leave them in zone 6a. Do you think it will live through winter?
@OverdevestNurseries3 жыл бұрын
it might, but it depends upon the severity of the winter, the drainage of your pot, the type of container and the type of compost, the place you have it etc. etc. Many factors! This is really an "in ground" plant where the roots are beneath soil level and don't freeze like they are prone to do in the coldest winter months when the elevated roots are above ground level in a container. It is good that you intend using "a large container" (small pots with less soil volume will freeze first). I would also suggest you make addition holes in the base of the container and add plenty of grit or gravel in the bottom, try to use a wooden or earthenware container that offers some insulation properties rather then a thin walled plastic one, use a soil-based compost but make sure it drains well and see if you can move or position the container into the most sheltered, protected place.

I bought this a month ago and although they’re growing very fast but absolutely no fragrance 😢😢😢 why?
@OverdevestNurseries Жыл бұрын
Sometimes (for no apparent reason), it takes a little while for plants to settle in, and start doing what they are supposed to do! We suspect that your plant is so busy putting down roots and getting established (which of course is a very good thing), that it hasn't yet started flowering with the masses of young fresh (highly fragrant) flower buds that it will carry eventually. Sometimes, this might take several months or even a full growing season, but we wouldn't be surprised to hear that you will go out one morning in the cooler weather of autumn or early summer, and encounter lots of the glorious, wafting fragrance that this wonderful variety will provide.... once it get going. Please try to remember to keep us in the loop on this, and give us updates if you can. We will all be interested to know how you get on. Meanwhile, have you thought about subscribing to our channel? If you haven't, you might like to think about subscribing, because once you are subscribed, each time we post a new video (which we are doing all the time), it will turn up automatically in your feed. I'm in zone 11 - Florida Keys. Is it too humid here for this honeysuckle?
@OverdevestNurseries Жыл бұрын
We've seen comments from other folk about how they are successfully growing them in much warmer, humid conditions than up here in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, so it might be worth a try! But alas, because our only experience is here in our region, we can't definitively say whether it would work or not. We do know, that it is a lovely item for enjoying here in our northern neighborhoods, so fingers crossed you'll be able to have it too.

Will it thrive & flourish in the tropical Caribbean?
@OverdevestNurseries Жыл бұрын
It's descended from a species that grows in a temperate European climate where it experiences four seasons (including the dormancy periods of winter). So, it would probably be a stretch to expect it to flourish permanently outside of these conditions.

Why do my blossoms only last day or two then turn brown
@OverdevestNurseries3 жыл бұрын
Typically, the blossoms will open a creamy lemon yellow and then deepen to darker shades over a period of several days they mature, and it is at this stage that they give off their heavenly fragrance. In hotter sunny weather this process may be accelerated. Fortunately, it is a good rebloomer and there is usually plenty of replacement buds coming along to extend the flowering period.
