Realy really good rundown; godly tones! I’ve never really jived with the TS style ODs; too much bass removed for my taste but obviously that serves well in a mix. You have motivated me to explore the SD-1 again. I’ve gotten away from most of the modern TS style boosts in favor of more classic heavy tones, save a couple exceptions. My go to has been the Lone Wolf Audio “Burning Spirit”, catered to death metal, because it has a full EQ. It does the mid boost, clean boost job, but also adds as much gain as desired, range nob for amp/cab voicings, grip to loosen or strangle overall response, and I can add as much B/M/T as I need or want to remove. It’s essential gear. But otherwise that SD-1 makes a lot of amps sing the “right way”. The JHS is pretty cool; need to try their Rat Pack pedal!
@EugeValovirta230V3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah SD-1 is just great to make an already overdriven amp sing like a mofo 😎👌.
@ArticLight143 жыл бұрын
You finally got the Greer to try. To me it’s like just adding some extra bit to the amp without changing the tone. But damn, all those ODs did shine at different times. Your new edition of the boogie sounds so good. You the man Euge 🤘

I have both a regular SD-1 and BD-2 and I absolutely LOVE the two pedals. I use the SD-1 to boost my Peavey Invective MH amp for metal tones and BD-2 on cleans when playing cleaner bluesy music. What I love about the BD-2 the most is how incredibly dynamic it is. Play softly and you get clean amp. Dig in and it roars.

It does indeed. The sound of Rock like they say 😎👌. Yeah SD-1 into JCM800 is pretty much the guitar sound in my head and that’s been my main setup since 90s. My first tube amp was JCM800 2203 and the first overdrive SD-1 and that combo still works like a charm 😊💪.

Always love hearin' You on passive pickups. (Personal taste) =) That was SD59's in that Tokai; right? Thoose are with the more 'groaty' Alnico 5 magnet bars. If my memory serves me right: You prefer pretty heavy gauge on Your strings. Alnico 5 works nice to clean up that extra low end from heavier strings. Have You ever tried this same 'pedal-pusch-test' with more 'trebley' lower output pick ups? Like SD Alnico Slash (Alnico II) -or DiMarzio PAF Master (Alnico IV)? I recently had problems cleaning up a heavy distorted detuned sound. The solution was pretty unexpected: Lower output PAF Master pick ups (DP260 & DP261) + a MXR Micro Amp + -into Marshall head. The Slash PU's sounded great too; but had a little bit too much PAF 'sag'... Haven't found a single sound clip on YT; that is completely fair on the PAF Masters for real hardcore metal. -Joskus ratkaisu on sellainen -jota ei ikinä ens voi odottaa...

Thanks! Custom on the bridge and ’59 on the neck. I’ve pretty much used EMG 81/85 & 57/66 and a few Duncans all my life without any problems. They pickup my sound and that’s all I need. If something ain’t broken I’m not gonna fix it 😎.

How about an OCD ? I have it and a SD1. I think the OCD can sort of cover SD1 , Tube Screamer up to the blues drivers and can be a pretty transparent clean boost set correctly as well . It sounds pretty good as a distortion straight into a completely clean amp also . The SD1 should automatically come with your first guitar or tube amp . Hell they are so cheap even if you don’t play guitar you’d be crazy not to pick one up just in case you decide to eventually lol Sometimes I’m not crazy about the cocked wah thing the SD1 does at some settings...... but sometimes I am . Hit it with a cheap plastic chorus pedal to knock the edge off sometimes .
@EugeValovirta230V3 жыл бұрын
Haven’t really tried those since I’ve been using mainly SD-1 since early 90s 😊.
@brandonjackson58653 жыл бұрын
Yeah if I had gotten my SD1 first I probably would’ve never spent the money on an OCD . I’m a rock / metal player and the OCD is definitely more versatile than I’d ever need. It’s still a very cool pedal and a fair price for something made in the US . It’s expensive compared to the SD1 although .

I'm still trying to get used to YOU with a Boogie! LoL! For decades, the metal trinity has always been: Fender cleans, and Marshall or Mesa for the heavy stuff. It's what everyone used. And some players were doing the "soldano thing", or a Bogner... just to try and be different. Today, we have too many choices. Most of which are way too expensive for me. So I will just stick to my Boss Katana head for now.

The 1987X and the JHS Bonsai should get married. They are perfect for each other. P.S. Blues Driver does not seem to have much high pass filter. Flubby, which is cool for lower gain bluesy stuff. Greer pedal does seem to roll off a bit more low end than the BD. As usual SD1 and Bad Boy with EMGs kicks arse.

Great vid as usual. Very interesting. Greer Amps wins here. Full of respect for the amps. But I still prefer the Klon KTR, the only pedal you can push to the max in front of a kranked Matamp GT120. If you like fuzz pedals, a few years ago, Greer Amps has released the Tarpit Fuzz witch is a really good one. The tone of your plexi is killer. No pedals needed, brown as I love ! About the JCM800, the Boss SD-1 is still the best if you want more. My humble opinion... In fact I use the SD-1 with the 800 only, they are made to work together. But there is something better for the 800 : kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpeanZ55lNGpmZY
