Our recent clog fix experience: 8 ounces of liquid Ajax dish detergent poured slowly into the bowl over the site of the paper & turd clog, let sit for 20 minutes, followed by a coffee pot of hot water (less than 180 degrees f., we were told 150 d. works) also poured very slowly into the bowl over the site of the clog-let sit for an additional 20 minutes (after which we could see the bowl water turning brown from the slowing dissolving turd-log-clog), followed by a second slowly poured pot, let sit for a final 15 minutes. Flush - clog gone, no plunger, no auger, no waste water splashed all over the floor or room & zero room clean up &/or turdy tools to clean up. 48 hours later the toilet is still flushing well. We're not talking toys, just turds, paper & Presto we're Pleased!

I'm in the UK. I'm amazed at how high the water rises even when the toilet isn't blocked. Brits would find that alarming. Be calling the plumber out. An inch or two is the norm here.

Had many STRs. Bars of soap, cars, legos socks, washcloths you name it. Really nasty folks will stick raw eggs in garbage disposal and run without water. What a mess.

so our house has 2 toilets, one upstairs one downstairs, the downstairs is like a basement type of thing and every time someone flushes upstairs, the downstairs toilet will start to bubble or "burp" and when i go to flush the downstairs toilet it just over fills, i've tried plunging it but nothing, do i plunge the upstairs or downstairs? I dont know if it matters but the house was built in the late 70's early 80's, that poor kid is like, where are my cars mommy?
