I love how you can use any plane to tow. I usually hang out at EGLC and hook onto random planes taking off, taking a flight around london and then landing back at EGLC for another tow launch. Towing from a 747 feels like a friggin action movie with all the overspeed shaking effects.

"This is not a tutorial!" I agree! Amazing video, fun flight, humorous details! All it needs is some accurate information hahaha! Too much said in this video that made me laugh at the inaccuracies! I don't care though, absolutely love seeing you have fun! :) inside your download you'll find a flight manual to help you understand the various systems and Launch methods! Thank you for supporting us and a special thank you for publicly gliding for the first time! So much to learn, so much fun to still be had! :) Biggest tip is to winch launch at a much steeper angle, try to follow the curve, so your take off angle should be about 55° - 65° but don't exceed 70° or you'll snap the cable! That microphone menu you opened up is not needed unless you have Kinetic Assistant installed. Haha once again, I'm excited to follow your journey! Any landing is a good landing! 👍

@Jonx Simulations Hallo.

And how! But 100% agree, awesome video to watch. Reminds us slightly more adept (and in no way am I saying I am proficient) glider pilots what it was like when we started and how much we have got our heads around. One other thing sir, you were often flying the glider far too slowly too so mushing a lot of the time. If you really want to bake your noodle and haven’t done so already go look up glider polar curves. Welcome to the soaring rabbit hole. It’s so awesome to see soaring putting big smiles on more people’s faces 😁👍

I definitely recommend familiarising yourself with the concept of ridge lift and thermal lift, which are pretty well simulated in the sim currently :) Once you get the hang of it you can intuitively visualise where the best areas are to fly, and you can 'surf' for immense distances using long ridge lines and steep sided cliffs, hills, and mountains. If those run out then you can look for thermals under cumulus clouds or over dark areas of ground which heat up more than the surroundings. LA is often great for a relaxing cruise, all that dark built up area gives off no end of thermal lift energy.
@steph40502 жыл бұрын
Small correction for your own knowledge. Thermal lift is NOT implemented in the current realease of MSFS. I saw an interview with an engineer from Asobo that confirmed its not. But it is planned to be implemented in the 40th aniversary edition next fall.
@GurtTarctor2 жыл бұрын
@@steph4050 Yeah I don't know why Jorg Neumann has said that thermals aren't in the sim yet, I think maybe he just meant to state that they aren't completely integrated into the simulation yet. Here's a section of transcript of Sebastian Wloch, C.E.O. of Asobo Studio, explaining what is currently in the sim and what is coming up - "In SU9 it computes the amount of watts, the energy recieved by the sun, which will depend on if it's day or night, how high the sun is in the sky, how thick of atmosphere is crossed by the sunlight, if it's humid or whatever if there's haze etc, if there's clouds. And so at the end there's an amount of watts remaining that hits the ground at a certain angle, and then you know how much energy you get, then it calculates all sorts of things like how dark, albedo basically, how much energy is reflected, how much is kept. This transforms into heat, and then you know how much basically your ground is heating up. When you ground is significantly warmer than the air it builds up hot air which then wants to go up, and here you have your thermals. Right now this is SU9, what we are adding with SU10 is to make this a little bit more comfortable, we are blending in the wind factor so that when you have absolutely zero wind you will get less thermals. ... So now when you have low wind speeds the thermals are going to be much less than before, if you want strong thermals put at least 5 knots of wind or something ... We also made these turbulences a little bit weaker at high altitudes, like I would say 20k and above, you will see less thermals. In SU10 you will see more gusts however." And he goes on to hint at what's coming after SU10 in regards to thermals too. So atm thermals under clouds and over dark areas are absolutely there in the sim and are quite usable, I've gone hundreds of miles on nothing else and so have many others. Looking forward to the future improvements in this area! :)

Good flight. Pick one of the soaring presets, go to their glider base east of Innsbrooke. Find the ridges and mountains the wind is blowing into and get next to them like a serfer on a wave. You will raise rapidly once you get the feel for it, hop to next ridge.

When you get into a "thermal", you're in a bubble of rising air. The idea is to spiral, like a hawk to stay within the rising bubble.

The problem is FS2020 doesn't model thermals yet, that is why gliders aren't supported yet. That should be coming in SU10 or with the 40th anniversary edition. I think I read Got Friends included weather presets that simulate thermals the best they can.

Fun! Flying gliders is a whole different ballgame. On a winch launch you should aim to go up like a rocket. Not flat, like you did, but basically at 45 degrees or more, pulling back slightly on the stick to keep the cable taut. Let it flatten off by itself as you get towards the top. Then drop your nose as you go over the winch and pull the release. You can climb 1500 to 2000 feet in a few seconds. It’s the most excitement you can have with your clothes on. And then it all goes beautifully quiet… 6,000 feet a minute going up. 50fpm going down.

Love the vid, thanks. I've flown gliders irl and thought this was brilliant fun. Checked the below comments and won't repeat everything already said, but I will say that while we wait for full support in FS2020, the Kinectic+ add-on will "bring in" real life hot-spots, indicative of thermals, to your sim - assuming one wants to fly Live Weather and not just the presets. In the payware version (Kin'+) you can even elect to have birds circling in thermals as an indicator. Keep the vids coming ;)

On the strength of the video I bought it this morning. Having a great time! Especially like the supplied airfield in the Alps. Flew to Innsbruck (75 miles) and it made for an interesting afternoon. Whoever comes up with the next glider has got a tough act to follow. 😀😀

The string is not the wind direction!! It is one of the most important instrument in a glider. You have to try to keep the string always in the exact middle direction even in a turn. that means you are flying correct an not sliding, if it goes to the side correct it with the rudder. It is very important to fly a glider in a clean mode. And please go and find some thermals otherwise stay close to the airport. It is a very challenging sport.
@MattnUska3 ай бұрын
If the weather is accurate you aren’t going to get a lot of lift in the evening. You want to be flying mid day for thermals. You can get ridge lift in the evening if there’s enough wind but it won’t take you far.

Hey Overkill, you gotta make a video of what I’m about to tell you!! Don’t know if you done it yet, but I’m sure there’s plenty of people out there with the same headache of Asobos dark shadowy looking cockpits and bright tarmacs. So what I did, was I added Nvidia filters called “Detail” and “Brightness and Sharpness”. With these two filters you can fine tune it to be very realistic lighting both inside and outside cockpit. Before, it was hard to get good clear view of instruments because of Asobos crappy lighting inside. Now, from a pilots view inside cockpit it crisp and clear. I’m able to see all the textures to it’s full glory. I just can’t believe there is no KZbinr out there showing this amazing little tweak. Hopefully you can come up with a video to share more light on this tweak. It’s better than tweaking cfg file which hardly does anything anyways. Take care my friend!!

The problem with Brandon Yaeger who developed SOME of what you see here is that he uses unauthorized content which he hasn't gotten permission to use from the content creator. He then claims not to have done so and accuses those he took from of lying. If you really look closely at the instruments, systems and textures they are mostly taken from the DG-808S by Touching Cloud and those that poured their heart sweat and tears into it and then claims credit for himself.
