Nice video and nice explanation all noobiness considered…However, landing with wind is much much MUCH easier. Under one condition. A condition that is a golden rule for any helicopter, nay, any flying machine in the entire world… Are you ready??? You land (and take off) INTO THE WIND. That is, against the wind. That is, head on to the wind. Your Apache in the TSD page, bottom right it says the wind. There is the word CALM if wind is below 5 knots, but if it is higher it will show something like…180/15 that is a wind from north to south at 15 knots. Land with a northern heading. Those 15 knots will make you land in a running speed but stationary. That is less power, more authority in the tail and easier flying characteristics overall. Airplanes have to align with the runway. Helicopters don’t. In fact THEY SHOULDNT. Helicopters align into the wing for take off and landing. So if you are crabbing…you are definitely doing it wrong. So try it with wind. Try it with like 25-30 knots and go land into the wind…you will see…

Your vids are better than all those so called real Apache pilots trying to explain things. They just can’t say things in an organized manner. You do. Thanks.

@@lindsaybrown5897 No I do get it, I maintain aircraft for a living but I get what you mean :). This is the more direct approach. Plus it’s kind of how I was taught when doing my ppl. Plus if you look at how pilots for the Huey where taught during the Vietnam war it was even more direct than this.

Interesting, I usually just un-trim (trim reset) the aircraft once I get into that transistion window of sub 20knots. Mainly use trimming for stable cruising flight. Then again i'm not very good at landing and am lucky to have remembered to turn off the parking brake so I don't tip over on touchdown and shear my rotors off XD

Great video I definitely need more practice. When taking off from a cold start do you trim the pedals to the left to stop her from spinning out of control
@emergencyroomandy94252 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the quicker to pull the collective, the more anti torque pedal you need to apply. Just keep at. It'll become muscle memory to us in no time.

Which trimmer mode are you using under the special section? Great job!
@TheCasualCosmonaut2 жыл бұрын
if you've got a stick like the warthog that has springs to keep it centered you want to be using Central Position Trimming. The caveat to this mode is that once you click your trim button you lose control authority until your stick and pedals are centered. This can catch you out if you don't expect it. fly with the controls hud open (right ctrl + enter).

Great video's OverKill, Thank you. I'm also interested in the axis curves you have mapped. Can you share, or are you just using the defaults?
@bigcat5142 жыл бұрын
Take others axis curves as a really bad reference. It’s highly personal and depends on your own setup. My best advice is to try tweaking until you find your sweet spot.

Very well done bro. I have a question about the interaction between the collective and rpm throttles. I’ve noticed that when I fly I’m having to constantly adjust RPM based on where I’m at with the collective. What does that look like when you’re landing? Are you able to set RPM at a specific percentage and then just manipulate the collective or is it a constant battle? Thanks for any advice
@OverkillSimulations2 жыл бұрын
I leave it at "FLY" and then never touch it again until shutdown. Now, if you move the collective up TOO quickly you can have an issue and will hear the low rotor rpm warning
@richardkuck46092 жыл бұрын
I think that’s most likely my issue. I’m trying to fly this thing like a Huey or a KA50 and it’s just not those. I know I’ve definitely had to fine-tune my big meet fists when I grab the cyclic as this bird really wants extremely small adjustments. Going to have to use the collective in the same way I suppose. Thanks for the tips man and keep rockin
@slyderace2 жыл бұрын
@@richardkuck4609 I learned the hard way as well. I would always throw too much collective to stop my fall but learned that you can't do that in this bird. You have to do everything in small bursts/adjustments!

I have no idea.... but I can tell you from MY opinion as someone who prepurchased it.... I'm very very glad I did. I'm having a great time with it. You have to change the game to open beta client, then you'll be able to use the AH-64D! Since the Apache is early access, he's only available in the beta client and not in the standard/stable version of DCS.
