I have a whynter 62 quart duel zone frig freezer. I bought it 2 years ago for my semi. It has been one of my best investments. The best part is when I go camping or off roading I can just take it with. So in 2 year it runs 24/7 and never had a problem. Your unit has every feature mine has. I love that they don’t use much power. Great video

Fridges are an absolute must have! I just picked up a Dometic CFX35 and PLB40 battery and am not looking back. I considered a Snomaster 42 which is metal, but ultimately decided it didn't need it to be that big. I chose Dometic mainly because of their compressor technology, and that PLB40 auxiliary battery, which is designed specifically for fridges prevents me from having to hardwire in a dual battery setup.

Yep. We have a National Luna, we live in Havasu, so you know it is brutal the heat. Initially our mission was different from most. Our youngest has really bad allergies, so traveling means no eating out, so our rig setup initially was just to accommodate doing this. I liked the Luna due to its reputation, I am sure there are others on par with it, just I liked it and was recommended it by people I trust. Now we're off going remote, and having this in the vehicle means meals are when ever you want, you're not stuck on a timeline of whats ahead. Decreases the chances of food poisoning due to eating out, healthier eating whilst traveling, not to mention costs are way down for food on trips. What a blessing, I now use this thing when I know I am going to the grocery store in the summer. Turn on the unit, throw in an ice pack in the fridge portion (to help it cool off quicker), holds temp especially when the A/C is having a hard time just getting the interior of the vehicle down from 115+ temps outside. On our trips it is super handy, not finding things in the ice or leaking like you pointed out. I got this before the roof rack, awnings, any of that. I had a guy ask me what was the most important piece of gear now, in my opinion. I thought about what I really wouldn't want to live without, of all the things, the fridge. I hate that phrase, game changer, but it really is. I have a couple of Yeti coolers and a huge Pelican, though they are good, once you operate with one of these fridge units, just huge change. I like our Luna better than my home fridge, I trust the Luna's temps (verified with a laser thermometer numerous times), the current cut off works, the alarm works, and uniform cooling.

Well said. It's one of those things you don't know how great it is until you actually use it. Still one of our favorite pieces of gear!

Looks like a solid fridge. I have a little norcold in my trailer which does the job for my excursions just nicely. I wouldn't mind a bigger one but I don't have the space for it. I do have over 200W solar panels and li-ion batteries to run the electrics, so I can camp pretty much indefinitely without losing cooling as long as there's some sun. That alone is worth the cost of a modern compressor 12V fridge. So much better than coolers and ice.

For harsh conditions and high heat 120f , 50c there are only 2 fridges I trust both Aussie. Engel and evacool anything else struggles big time and eats power big time and both handle the harsh road conditions with ease . My Engel has not been turned off for 2 years and before I sold my evacool it had not been turned off for 10 years . I have had other brands but they just don’t stand up to the harsh Aussie conditions. Good luck with your travels

Lifestyle Overland have tried a couple of the cheap brands , chinese special just for drinks way to heavy on power and very poor performance at anything over 30c , had a waeco never again will i touch that brand other than been very power hungry it let the magic smoke out 2 weeks after the warrenty ran out and they did not want to know . Absorption fridges are ok in temperate climates but hopeless for cooling in the tropics ie high temp , high humidity.

@aron21995 жыл бұрын
Hey guys enjoy your video. But one must keep in mind that you do get fridge for free. The fridge works as a half dozen of other reputable fridge would probably do too. I second the comment of having 2 fridges - one for fridge and one for freezer. This tends to work much better in terms of temp variation(even the cheapers in this configuration)- an added benefit is having a redundancy built in your system in case one fails in the field - important consideration here in Australia, when you might be 1,000kms from a major town and the desert heat can spoil everything within hours. Space is less of an issue for those who tow a camper trailer.
@LifestyleOverland5 жыл бұрын
Yep, that's why we fully disclosed the circumstances. Just giving our review, mate. After a year of full time use it still works great. This video isn't trying to put down any other brand (which is why they aren't mentioned) but to show you our results. There are a lot of options out there that probably work just fine as you say. Two fridges is an interesting way of going about it. Seems like a lot to load the rig with. Not to mention the power demands. But, if it works for you then that's great. Safe travels.
@aron21995 жыл бұрын
no worries - always appreciate people being honest about sponsorship . I do have very high regard for snoMaster - i consider it to be equal to the ultimate, National Luna, only cheaper. It's not uncommon for people to run 2 fridges/freezer (40+ & 40+ litres) here in Australia when doing outback (overlanding) trips especially if towing a trailer - smaller one in the back of vehicle and another in trailer. both would have its own battery so generally power is not a problem. Things tend to be a lot punishing over here - corrugated roads will break just about everything - so redundancy on hi-priority items is very desirable.
@rjansandland42565 жыл бұрын
Great reviev and I really like that cooler. Sounds like it is as rugged as it looks. Unfortunately SnoMaster isn't too widely available in Europe compared to Dometic. Do you have any thoughts on your SnoMaster vs Dometic CFX75DZW which are the most similar coolers?

Émile, I second that question. She mentioned that they are using an Odyssey battery but not the model. I’m guessing it’s the “Extreme.” If so, it has it has a 100 Ah capacity (I think). If that’s the case, I believe AGM batteries can only use 50% of their capacity which reduces the available power to 50 Ah. If I’m right about this, their SnoMaster (if pulling a constant max load of 5 amps, should be able to run for about 9 hours without having to start their engine (and if there is no other load on the aux battery). PLEASE CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG. Thanks :)
@LifestyleOverland5 жыл бұрын
We're using the Odyssey 34/78-PC1500DT which has 68AH. They are able to discharge to 80% due to their higher quality construction. How long it can run is very subjective and changes with ambient temps and contents. Usually we can run for 2-3 days at 70ish degree ambient temps.
@LifestyleOverland5 жыл бұрын
The 5 amps is only when the compressor is running. It all depends on the ambient temps and contents as to how long it will last on a single battery.
